Nice feel-good movie
edwin-damhuis5 July 2014
Before seeing this movie as a screening in the Netherlands I heard it was a romantic comedy with a little bit of action in it and the first feature length movie of the director. And that's just what it is. A nice funny feel-good movie. It's about a London banker who is following his dream in the Algarve in Portugal after getting into a crisis. His dreams are being blocked by some investors, but with the help of some local people he fights back. The story is simple but solid. The plot is not too exciting. But right from the start you really get into it. The movie breathes the right atmosphere of the Algarve. You can feel the heat and the dryness of the surroundings. You can also identify with the main character who wants to start a new life without the complexities of the western world, but has to face the problems one meets when starting all over again in a new place. Ellie Chidzey is convincing as his wife Sally who is used to her luxurious lifestyle in London and can't let go of it. If you like romantic comedies and want to learn a lesson in the end, I can recommend this movie.

Embarrassing:(
anndelleblomdahl24 September 2014
I had great expectations when I went to this movie with my friends yesterday. We all live in the Algarve and we all agreed after watching the movie that the whole story was just embarrassing. The Portuguese people or the Brits are not this stupid. I cannot understand how the film maker also could ignore the beauty of the Algarve and make most of the film in an environment that is not at all typical for the Algarve. And the cast was very mediocre. I had read reviews on this film in local papers and on the internet and just could not believe that it was that same movie that I watched yesterday. I had looked forward to recommend this film to friends, but I definitely will not. Sorry. Maybe I had looked forward to something similar to One Year, with Russel Crowe, a movie that makes you want to move to the country where the story is told. I hope that most people who watch The Right Juice have been to the Algarve and only see this movie as something that is just a mistake, and knows that Portugal/Algarve is fantastic (and that the people do not drink Medronho all the time.)

What is the meaning of this amateurism?
polibios13 September 2015
I was amazed after seeing it on TV last night.

Goofy movie with a silly and meaningless history! It is so bad that it's even funny!

I just see it with a smile on my face.

Bad history,

Silly plot,

Bad acting.

We only learn that the Allgarve have good oranges and is a good tourist place.

Who have sponsored such cinematographic foolishness?

I put in doubt the degree of maturity of the people responsible for this project.

Beautiful and funny
r-keller6327 June 2014
The movie is shot in the Algarve providing beautiful scenic shots and colors. It has constant humor with a former banker that is trying to cope with a different culture and others who are not. The tempo of the movie is relaxed and realistic. I think it really captures the real speed of life in that part of the word, adding to the realism of the movie. The story leaves enough room for interpretation to keep it interesting. It is not fully worked out in each detail, so it keeps you thinking although not in a disrupting way. So all in all a very beautiful and funny movie, specifically taking into account the budget that was available for it. Cudo's to all involved!

Loved it
lori_hampton28 September 2014
I loved this movie! It was clever and funny and sweet. The setting was so beautiful! We had never considered visiting Portugal but we think we will start planning a trip! The film has a positive environmental message without being heavy handed. Loved the message that it's never too late to start over - And follow your dreams! This film won an award at the Edmonton International Film Festival. Well deserved! I think it will win many more awards. It was very well received here and the director told us lots of funny stories afterwards. His passion for Portugal and the Algarve was inspiring. It's a fun movie, beautifully filmed, with a great message. What more can we ask in a film? We were a group of four and everyone enjoyed the film.

A 94 minutes trip to the Algarve, Portugal
gertje_erwtje26 June 2014
A sincere, light footed funny and visually enticing movie. I came to the movie theatre with a slight fear in my heart for I often find the genre comedy abused by directors who seem to have a 'x jokes per minute quota'. Do they, I wonder. I loved the subtlety of the jokes, and sincerity of the story. Recognizable and therefore credible characters, make for a charming story. Though I must say that the protagonist is a a bit of a blue eyed boy scout and his nemesis is very clearly the bad guy..but then again, they seem to have opposite views of life so it might be befitting. The directors apparent knowledge and love for the Algarve region shines trough the scenes and is highly contagious. The music was very much in tune with the story and helped introducing the Algarve and its inhabitants to the viewer. I've never been there but now it feels as if I have. Enjoyed it thoroughly.

A romantic comedy with a surprising deeper meaning.
annick-38-87295626 June 2014
The right juice easily absorbs you into the story of a broke banker, who tries to start up a new life in the Algarve country side. In the beginning the movie is funny and light. The story seems to be predictable but is not actually. At the end of the movie you will find the true meaning of The Right Juice. Wonderful movie that makes you feel good but with a surprising ending, that makes you wonder about your own meaning in life. Loved the characters. Great cast in a beautiful Portugese ambiance. First thing I did after the movie, was ordering the t-shirt at www.therightjuice.net. It will be my motto from now on.

Feels good, warm movie
derk-devries26 June 2014
I've experienced The Right Juice as a movie that makes you connect to the characters and makes you smile. As usually typical for movies that are made in France, Italy, Spain and Portugal you relate to the characters.

This movie brings you exactly that! This is beautifully supported by the way the scenes are shot. The location is typical Algarve and the Portuguese characters are real, not stereotyped.

I believe this movie was not shot with a large budget and that makes it even more an achievement of this production team. I am looking forward to see more of this director and see what more he can do with more budget.

This all underlines the passion of all the people involved in this project to make this movie as it is now, a warm movie.

A refreshing feel good film
Lisbethmarrs21 September 2014
Where do I start? Well, I have lived in the Algarve for nearly eighteen years and so I was looking for a film that did show something of the life here, I was not disappointed! I loved the portrayal of the local people in the film, really showed the humour of the Portuguese people and the good thing is I think they will find this film very funny too, well, the people sat in the cinema with me were Portuguese and laughed as much as I did. There were some very poignant moments which brought a lump to my throat but at the end of the film I came out thinking what a great all round film it was. The casting was very good and Selenor was so like my very philosophical neighbour who farms goats. Congratulations to all involved, wishing you all the best when it is released globally!

Great fun for all ages.
casteleijnconcept1 January 2015
Great fun for all ages (no sex involved). If you've ever been to the Algarve, you'll recognize the scenery. Beautiful shots combined with a good story and lots of humor. Laugh out loud (LOL) as they say today. Went to the premiere with a Portuguese friend (I'm dutch) and we love the movie. The right Juice breathes the Algarve. It's all so topical with the oranges, tricycle, medronho, little farm houses etc., etc. We both were sorry not to bring our families to the premiere as the movie suits all ages. Now I've ordered three DVDs for our families and one to be send to my family in Holland. We'll be watching TRJ again and again...

Good clean fun, with a twist....
john-b-oliver1 January 2015
Beautifully filmed and poignantly funny. Well written and cast. Spent a very nice evening at home in the Alentejo watching this delightful film. Believable narrative which explores the many facets of life, not just in the Algarve but the wider field of Ex-pats who come here and wish to do something, usually with the best of intentions. Everything is in there, the hapless Brit, his sniffy girlfriend, the slightly roguish local and the usual bent official. The best part as always the Mr Nasty and his henchman. Even the little bit of Spiritual comes over subtly while the neighbors look to have thrown in the towel...

We have all been there, not quite got the T-Shirt - YET! Congratulations to the entire crew for producing this... Best of luck with your future ventures

Great movie that takes you right back to the Algarve feel!
knogget-56-64034917 July 2014
I just saw this film yesterday and I must say it was wonderful. I have visited the Algarve in Portugal several times, and I must saw first of, that the wipe in the film was just as I remember from my stay in the Algarve. The story was sweet and well acted and I especially loved Miguel Damião playing the helpful neighbor. Just so funny, in fact there were just so many lovable and funny moments in this romantic comedy from Portugal that I can fully recommend it to everyone who wants to feel happy and just have a nice time with a great little flick.

The story is about this out of luck banker from London, very well played by Mark Killeen (although are little butch –But I guess that was for his Game of Thrones appearance), who makes a fresh start in the Algarve. And If you have ever been to Portugal and especially the Algarve you just know how wonderful and helpful the Portuguese are. Therefore Oliver (Mark Killeen) and his neighbor Manel, played really well by Portuguese actor Miguel Damião appear in all of these well known Portuguese situations, which Oliver handles in sometimes very misplaced ways, so funny, and sweet at the same time.

Fun
nottbohmk1 January 2015
well, after more or less 5 years in East (Tavira), Middle (Albufeira) and actually near Portimao - Alcalar as a German Vagabondo Lusitano and a piratinho (pirates, not navegators, are the history of Europe, lovely Portugal included, lol, Sir Francis Drake was the best of these criminals, ha ha)I had a lot of fun knowing many of the places in the film too, not yet Zoomarine from inside, ho ho, to watch the film and sent some copies to very good friends in Germany who have been here visiting Maravilhas de Portugal(phantastic facebook page). Of course this film is a little picture of the reality here and still most of this can happen in reality mainly if non Portuguese don't respect the local needs..... Algarve is a tourist destination in spring, summer and early autumn but never in winter - for tourists the nights are to cold and in winter the oranges are not really sweet, ha ha. I love this film and thank for enrichment of my life just unexpected at BLIP this year and later again at the Christmas Market of Arte Algarve in Lagoa and in Mel & Canela (Café at the entrance to Alvor, highly recommended) to get more copies of the film and Christmas cards.... Next future some local Portuguese, but international, friends will get a copy from me as a new years gift. Muito obrigado! Bravo

Fabulous!
Thebentleys-51-18353721 January 2015
How I disagree with "Embarrassing". This really is a fun movie with a great feel good factor, fairly unusual these days. The scenery is wonderful and the film quite clearly shows the generosity and friendliness of the Portuguese people. I watched this film surrounded by local Portuguese who laughed as much as I did. I thought the cast was excellent, though for my taste Oliver's wife was perhaps a little too "light". Manel was played brilliantly, not sure if this actor is a well known comic actor but hopefully he will do more in the future, he was a natural. Congratulations on receiving the Canadian award - the first of many I am sure.

think about yourself comedy
bas-41-54607830 June 2014
If you are a shallow viewer than you will see a film about some poor farmers who are forced to sell their land to a rich real estate developer who wants to turn it into something really commercial. A story that already has been told a 1000 times.

But if you are a sharp viewer you will see a fantastic movie about the difference being happy or having a lot of possessions. It is a comedy but it really made me think about the things that are important in my life. It is a nice movie to watch with your lover an talk about the things you enjoy in live. So i say 9 points for this think about yourself comedy.

Very intimate charming feel-good lovely film
hansje_200026 June 2014
The Right Juice is one of those lighthearted films that leaves you happy and in awe of the scenery and the humanity. The subtile humor, the likability of the main characters and the beautiful Portugese landscape lifts your spirit and before you know it you are rooting for the good guys to really get Their Right Juice, as if they were your own personal friends. Lucia Moniz (from Love Actually) is again brilliant in whole heartedly inviting the audience to feel part of the heart of the story and Mark Killeen (Game of Thrones) is the perfect good looking intimidating guy yet his clumsiness into pursuing his hearts ambitions abroad make him human and approachable. We loved the friendship between Ollie and Manel!

Go and see The Right Juice, perfect film for a first date, lifting your spirit, relaxing from stress or just to feel good and happy.
