This film was a sea of potential and opportunity that just wasn't capitalized on in my opinion. There are multiple characters and situations that beg for development but just never get it. Just when it seems something funny is going to happen, we move on without extracting the comedy potential. The improvised speech in the pub is the only funny bit that I can remember as it was unexpected in its plausibility and sincerity. The acting is solid but I just wish that more actual comedy had been planned as opposed to just assuming that the string of events would lead to humour (which it didn't). Massive missed opportunity with the women on the pub, (nothing happens) and then the biggest missed op at the end with the oddball that picks them up - we wait for a funny situation to unfold as it seems he has a liking for the loud mouthed guy and his legs but absolutely nothing does! He just goes away. This is a decent first attempt at a movie but is more of a poor man's Downhill than a Withnail and I. In truth, it is not on the same arena as the exquisitely measured and quite majestic Withnail and I.
