Aussie as "Limey"?
jherbelin-594-31478128 January 2013
Not just those living in the U.K. noticed... As a Canadian living in France, I attest the Australian passing for an Englishman bugged me too... Why not use a Brit?

The interesting "love story in the bud" is getting more and more highschool-worthy... It's time to advance things or abandon the whole thing! Gosh... I only wanted to say this... but am obliged to leave ten lines... What else can I say? I might mention that, strangely, the French actor who dubs Castle's voice, has a nicer voice than the real thing! That's all... And yet... I still haven't fulfilled the line requirement... Sorry to have kept you reading!

Bad accent!
sbangel-1014219 April 2019
Warning: Spoilers
I love love LOVE Castle, but this episode bugged me. Casting an Australian as a Brit is just plain wrong, the accent shine through and bugged me the entire episode. Not to mention Castle/Beckett trying to outdo each other.

Annoying 'British' cast member
lornagracevibert20 July 2012
Warning: Spoilers
This whole episode was totally ruined for me by the posing of a Australian actor as a British police officer. Not only did he make a feeble attempt at a British cockney accent, but the plot included him passing as a member of the English aristocracy (!) having been awarded a scholarship to Eton (double !) No member of the aristocracy has an accent like that (even if it were a true cockney accent rather than strine); no ex Eton schoolboy would have an accent like that, and the idea of a charwoman's son from the East End getting a scholarship there is even more laughable.

I do get it that most people in America wouldn't be able to tell the difference between the Aussie and the London accent, but as the series is sold and shown in the UK, surely there's no shortage of British actors who could have taken the role, and informed the powers that be of the glaring anomalies. The fact that he was an Aussie was obvious to us from the very first utterance, and we therefore couldn't take it seriously.

As for the episode itself, well the tension between Becket and Castle is getting unbearable but please let's hope we've seen the last of the 'Scotland Yard Detective' - although I have a horrible feeling that we might not have ...

Destroyed by 'Hollywood Brit' casting...!
mcguin7111 March 2015
I usually thoroughly enjoy an episode of Castle where even the 'poor' ones are decidedly 'above average'.

Not this one though. Whatever score I wanted to give it was instantly halved by the odd, and most definitely wrong, choice of an Australian to play a Limey - Does anyone even use the term 'Limey' anymore?

Apparently this guy was from the East End of London but with an Eton education who then joined the Police...talk about a stretch! I'm surprised he didn't claim to be a minor Royal too!

And what's with the never ending will they/won't they with Castle & Beckett...for goodness sake it's 4 series in and its going nowhere very slowly, there's not even been a near miss of a relationship...

I really hope the writers and producers have learned from the bad reception to this episode!!!!!

For now I'm simply trying to resist the temptation to jump ahead to the next episode and not bother putting any effort im to finishing watching this one...

Accent frustration Warning: Spoilers
I was really looking forward to the development of what would happen between Castle and Beckett now that Castle knows Beckett remembered everything after the shooting. BUT, the AWFUL British accent from the Aussie actor playing Colin Hunt, totally ruined the whole episode. It was all I could focus on. Would it really have been so hard to employ a British actor for a British character?? Or did the casting agent really think that Brett's accent was perfect Cockney?

It was mindlessly distracting, every time he opened his mouth and even though this isn't the most realistic crime series, any shred of believability evaporated whenever the Colin Hunt character appeared.

Note to US casting agents: Australian is not the same as British. And there are more accents over here than Cockney or Posh Gent. There was no need for this!! British character - British actor. Easy!

Why why why?!
baffrynhoju5 July 2022
Are you seriously telling me there were 0 British beefcake actors in LA that they could of hired?!

His accent flips between strong Australian "g'day" type, to a poor "ello gov'nah!" Affair.

His back story is bad. The writing in this whole episode is bad. The will they won't they with Beckett and Castle is annoying at this point.

Honestly I'd say skip this episode entirely and save yourself the frustration. You wont miss anything I promise.

Atrocious "British" Accent
BDouglasRussell23 October 2013
Warning: Spoilers
Ironically, the Castle episode entitled "The Limey" didn't feature a Brit. At first I thought there was a problem with my set. The Australian had the worst British accent I think I have ever heard. He made Dick van Dyke and Meryl Streep look authentic. Frankly, he sounded like an Aussie with a mouth full of marbles.

There are plenty of Brits how could have done the job, why, oh, why . . .?

The cousin reviewers, please note that there are those of us Yanks who can spot a dodgy Brit accent without a problem and it is just as off putting to us. Still, advertisers and some casting directors think we are naff (i.e. lacking taste or style), when in reality it is they who are. Viking Cruise Lines has a bogus Brit as well.

I agree that the Aussie made a hash of his part and the script was just absurd. It all just got in the way and beggared belief, or even buggered it.

Even Bones could manage to get the ubiquitous Stephen Fry to put in a turn.

A good idea gone bad in both the casting and the details.

Great example of bad casting & ridiculous back story ruin an episode.
lulahv-at-yahoo-com26 August 2018
Like a lot of the reviews for this episode, I completely agree the casting of an Australian actor as a Brit completely ruins this episode. If it was just the Aussie accent it could've been ok, if they'd changed the episode name to 'The Aussie'. But the character's back story is just so unrealistic. I love Castle, I love it's absurdity, it's silliness, it's tongue-in-cheek attitude, as well as the mystery storylines obviously. But this episode stinks.

Another dodgy accent ruins episode
garypayn17 May 2020
Again a US TV show falls down with bad casting having a bloody aussie playing a Scotland yard detective surely there was an English actor available there seems to be enough of them playing Americans in various shows, still two Canadians play the two main characters in Castle as Americans

Colin Hunt... Really?
andy-5634612 April 2021
I guess that slipped by the US viewers, and any one that checked the script...

But then if they thought that was even remotely a British eastend accent, I guess the name would easily passed them by too.

Worst Fake British Accent
ANannyMoose021 January 2022
It's beyond comprehension to even fathom such a ridiculously bad fake accent. This jackass of a bad actor frequently switches between a bad Australian accent and a bad northern British accent. It's as though this idiot puts on the voice at parties and drunk people tell him he's good and he's stupid enough to believe them.

Useless episode
jneha-6500425 September 2020
Warning: Spoilers
I hated Colin Hunt for coming between Casket. I only love Caskett and I wanted to punch him for his accent personally anyway I love dark haired guys. Wanted Beckett to chase Castle and not go out with Colin. That stupid dance was a mistake and it did not solve the case. Beckett is such a detective, why can't she figure out Castle knew her lie.
