so close....
martin-bonenfant20 March 2024
I just finished viewing this movie, and I can't be more grateful that Ken Russell died before being associated with this hot dump!!

I mean, it is not that bad of a movie (well, yes, it is bad, bit not THAT bad!). But it is so not on par with movies from K Russell that it would have been a real embarassement if he had end up being associated in anyway with this movie. His work is so much more beyond the juvenile "message" of this movie that it would have gone out as either was owning $$ to the director of this dump, or he would have lost hit mind.

It is so much better that we don't have to try and decide. Th king is dead, and peons keeps on trying to honour him....

So far, for the worse only....

Poor script even for a Troma
dstilt0718 October 2022
Warning: Spoilers
Troma films are typically low end schlock, and proud to be so. This was a pathetic waste of time. Lovers Eden (Sophia Disgrace) and Matilda (Rahel Kapsaski) like in a flat they have never paid any rent for and now the landlord (Chris Repps) wants them out. Their feeble attempts to make money on top of Matilda's poorly-paying job at the nightclub lead nowhere really, especially since Eden has the tendency to spend all the money they make on things they don't need - including the spider Rainer, who eventually crawls inside her to breed spider babies. In the meantime, their landlord, unable to throw the girls out on legal terms, moves in with them, while at the club, a regular (Lee Mark Jones) gets a bit too friendly with Matilda - all situations that eventually have to come to a webby ending.

Not my cup of tea...
paul_haakonsen21 October 2022
When I sat down here late in 2022 to watch the 2016 horror comedy musical "Spidarlings", I did so without ever having heard about it. I didn't know what I was in for, but a horror comedy musical sounded interesting enough, so of course I opted to watch what writer and director Selene Kapsaski had to offer.

And that wasn't a whole lot actually. The storyline in "Spidarlings" was not something that entertained me in the least, and I gave up on it just shy of 30 minutes into the ordeal. By then I just couldn't take any more of the non-existing storyline, the dull and one-dimensional characters, the wooden dialogue and the general lack of anything interesting on the screen.

I have to admit that when I saw that it was a Troma movie production, my expectations went right out the window. But I will say that the production level in "Spidarlings" is definitely a step up from the questionable and dubious Troma movies I have watched.

Needless to say that I wasn't familiar with anyone on the cast list, but I can't point at anyone on the cast list and say this actor or actress was really good.

Yeah, "Spidarlings" was definitely not my cup of tea. And it is not something that I will ever return to attempt to finish watching.

My rating of writer and director Selene Kapsaski's 2016 horror comedy musical "Spidarlings" lands on a two out of ten stars.

Abject Garbage
arfdawg-17 May 2024
It is hard to imagine that anyone on Earth could believe that this movie is even marginally good. It's not. It stinks to high heavens.

The direction is quite simply HORRIBLE. It's disjointed, choppy and just plain amateurish. Not really sure how the director got the OK to helm this train wreck.

The acting is non-existent. Literally. Half the time I had no idea what was going on because the acting was so poor and the writing even poorer.

Not really sure this is actually a Troma movie. Oftentimes they buy the rights to already made bombs and release them on video to make a few bucks off them. And this movie has all the bells and whistles to one of those doosies.

Rocky Horror for the new millennium
troma_freek7 March 2018
A bizarre punk rock fairy tale filled with catchy songs, great one liners and a twisted sense of humour that packs a punch, makes a statement and entertains along the way. Eden and Matilda are a lesbian punk couple living in Essex, they are two years behind with their rent and their landlord is losing his patience. To get out of their dire situation Matilda starts working in a night club in Soho called "Juicy girls" were all the girls slowly fall prey to a serial killer. Eventually the couple come across some money but instead of paying their rent they buy a pet tarantula which results in even more problems and leads to a bloody body horror finale. Spidarlings is anarchic Troma cabaret with acid fuelled animation sequences that is progressive and gender inclusive while still cleverly pocking fun at pc culture. Loved this movie! A real gem.

Anarchy + Love Equality + Blood and Gore= Spidarlings
badbarista10 July 2018
After 6 years in the making, Salem Kapsaski has finally been able to see his vision come to fruition, and it's been worth the wait! This punk rock LGBTQ horror musical has been the refreshing jaunt I've been yearning for in the horror genre. From the vibrant use of colors, musical numbers you'll be singing to yourself long after the movie is over, hottest spider sex scene you'll ever see, to the graphic kill scenes that will make you celibate! Even Uncle Lloyd puts the Troma stamp of approval on it! I can't wait to see more from Apres Vague Productions!

Fun Film on a Low Indie Budget!!!
johnny-motley6 April 2019
Warning: Spoilers
This film is pretty funny. It's Low Budget and got a Troma Release online, I understand. It's British and has Animation between scenes, which looked Impressive. The acting is what I expected, but I enjoyed Spidarlings!

Salem Kapsaski is clever young film-maker with a Humorous Vision for film. The two lead females were adorable in Sophie Disgrace and Rahel Kapsaski as two lovers who must try and pay their Rent to their inpatient Landlord.

It manages to stick a few fingers up too, to the Mainstream and is a Punk-Rock Alternative Musical in itself.

P.s:- lloyd Kaufman also makes a cameo - the Troma President. It's a Fun film on a Low Indie Budget, set in the UK! Check it out! It's also a Campy Musical Cult Film.

Drag Queens, Pop Punk and Spidaaars!
bary_wilson3 April 2019
From the zany 80's animated start titles (best I have ever seen) to the spider infested climax this was one wild ride! With a Troma release you never know what you get but Spidarlings exceeded all expectations. If you are into Spider terror, B Movies, drag queens, pop punk and campy gore this is your film! What makes it stand out is it's twisted humour and catchy songs! It made me laugh out loud at points or made me wanna break out into dance at others. It also had enough horror elements and blood to keep the horrorhound in me satisfied!Good to see practical FX instead of CGI nonsense. The animation was also really cool! A must for Troma fans and not only, this film has something everyone must like! Highly recommended!
