I'm hoping things aren't as severe as this episode puts forth. The location is a college campus and the victim is a guy who puts stuff on the internet, destroying lives along the way. We are introduced to a professor who teaches the power of individuals and says it's the way of the world. He's handsome and charismatic and dangerous. Well constructed story.

Gossips and Internet
claudio_carvalho18 November 2023
The CSI receive a phone call and find a dead body of a college student that has fallen off the "Finals Bridge", where students used to commit suicide. However, soon the investigators find that he was pushed off indeed. He is identified as the gay Peter Moyer from WLVU, who owned a Vlog of gossips, and was in a party promoted by a fraternity. The prime suspect is the also gay Sebastian Jones, who was the first to tip the police. The virgin actress Brooke Cassidy and her boyfriend Jake Psychan also become suspect. When Russell interviews the Professor of Anthropology of Fame Tom Laudner that Greg knows from a sensationalist TV show, he is included in the list of suspects.
"Trends with Benefits" is another good episode of "CSI". The dangers of the combination of gossips and Internet is the theme of this show. All the suspects have motive to kill the gossiper owner of the Vlog, and again there is a surprising conclusion. My vote is seven.

Has not aged well - would never go over well today with how they handle sexuality

This episode would never be ok in 2022. They use a mans sexuality against him, viewing him as a suspect because he's not "out of the closet" and using his gayness against him. It really leaves a sour taste. It's unfortunate no one at the time even felt it wasn't ok to say or write lines like that. But it's old and let's be real, no one will ever watch it.
