While for some it might seem like a risk to start off the second season with an Episode that acts a "transition" between the two bigger parts of the book, I can only say that the show is off to an amazing start.
Mixing important emotional development of our two leads with breathtaking visuals and action-packed scenes, I was left longing for the next episode when the credits rolled. Jacob Anderson gives a heartwrenching performance as Louis that I felt deep in my soul. I continue to marvel at his expressions and beauty. He is truly perfectly cast as Louis. Delainey Hayles brings a welcome depth to Claudia's character and I am excited to see where she will take the character in the coming episodes. Also, I habe to Mention Sam Reids embodiment of Lestat this episode-it was just like he walked off the page and on my screen.
Notably, this episode felt unabashedly gothic. Ripping hearts out and eating them, having the hallucinated ghost of your dead lover (that you killed) haunting you and seeking out ancient creatures in beautiful, old castles. An absolutely amazing and a welcome departure from the more "modern" setting we have seen in Season 1.
With the scenes taking place in Dubai, I was intrigued by the shift in dynamic between Daniel, Louis and Armand and am looking forward to seeing it develop.
Overall a very strong start to a promising second season.
