Sex & Nudity

  • Sex and fertility is discussed almost every episode, along with very graphic descriptions of sex
  • Various references to rape
  • A lot of sex, in every episode, there are sex scenes, and we can see the movements and the sounds.
  • A married couple have sex on several occasions with the sole purpose of reproducing.
  • Female breasts & buttocks nudity is seen as well as a man walking in a palace showing rear male nudity.
  • Graphic and crude references to incest, rape and beastiality
  • First episode has a lot of female nudity- see through white dress so you can see her bare erect nipples and breasts through it. Also there will be a woman seen dropping her dress off completely- you will see her fully nude from behind twice as camera looks at her bare naked body. No male nudity

Violence & Gore

  • Very bloody although comically exaggerated gory violence is shown.
  • Series contains implied violence and unrealistic gore, such as eye gouging
  • A man punches his wife in the stomach during an argument.
  • A servant woman is caned on screen by guards. Her bloodied back is shown shortly after.

Profanity

  • Cunt, fuck, shit, ass, bitch, etc. are very frequently used in every episode.
  • Many many uses of fuck and cunt
  • Around 300+ uses of fuck and 40+ uses of cunt throughout both seasons.

Alcohol, Drugs & Smoking

  • Significant scenes of alcohol consumption
  • Partygoers snort a substance at a party. The drug itself is not seen.

Frightening & Intense Scenes

  • For his own enjoyment, a man frequently demands that others perform degrading tasks under the implied threat of death or intense harm. These moments are somewhat played for humor, but also the victim's distress is clear.
  • Women describe mistreating their servants for their own enjoyment. Sometimes the treatment is violent or degrading.
  • A dog is poisoned accidently, we see the dead dog with a pool of blood from its mouth

Violence & Gore

  • In one scene the empress attempts to bite off the fingers of the archbishop, there is much blood involved including her later spitting blood into a teacup.
  • A man makes his wife believe she will be drowned in a crate. She is submerged for a short time before he removes her from the water. She is distraught but mostly unharmed.
  • At the threat of death, man is forced to shave another man's beard with a knife. The man with the beard is said to have a bad skin condition, which will make the process painful. The shaving happens offscreen, but soon after, we see the man who held the knife with blood sprayed across his face.
  • A woman slaps her husband across the face.
  • A man lights himself on fire. Mostly played for humor and non-graphic.

Frightening & Intense Scenes

  • A man shoots and kills his wife's pet bear.
  • A dog and a raccoon are made to fight inside of a log at an extravagant party.
  • At a meal, the guests' desserts are served on plates that also contain the severed heads of defeated military combatants. It is not particularly bloody but a character's distress is clearly seen.
  • A woman contemplates suicide while holding a knife to her wrist. She is interrupted and while the moment is intense, other elements of the scene are played for humor.
  • A story is told about a young boy who was frequently so distressed by his mother's emotional treatment that he sobbed violently while urinating on himself.
  • A central component of the plot is that a woman unknowingly marries an abusive man.
