I much like this series and am increasingly impressed with McDonnell as Captain Raydor. This episode opens with a horrific scene of a car ramming into a group of young people standing in front of a club; the car smashed through them into the club. A woman stumbles out of the car and is set upon by two young men who start hitting and kicking her. Fortunately they are pushed away by another young man. It is an incredibly tense scene which is captured on video by a bystander's smart phone. Three people are killed outright and nine people are critically injured, one of whom later dies. From the video, it appears the young woman (who is a recently graduated doctor) was under the influence of alcohol or drugs. The cynical Lt. Flynn asserts that the woman's lawyer will claim that she has a medical condition that caused her to lose control of her car. Sure enough, that's what happens. As the investigation proceeds, there is a side story of Rusty and his mom. Raydor tells Rusty that his mom has been found and later he talks to his mom who is taking a bus from Nevada be with him. The ending to both the main story and the side story are predictable albeit logical resolutions. But the way the stories evolve and are resolved are so very good that one can readily overlook this predictability. Also interesting is that Lt. Provenza seems to be warming up a bit to Raydor. This episode is a winner.
