The biggest twist is Daphne is the smartest of them all
julieshotmail15 December 2022
The White Lotus Sicily as a hotel resort is spectacular to behold. After all, these luxurious accommodations and scenic vistas are what you get for a pretty price tag. The intention of any tourist coming here is obviously to fully enjoy such a place, and yet here the character Daphne is the only one who truly fulfills that intention. Initially presented as a vapid trophy wife, she evolves quite deeply as we get to peek through the layers of her nuances. Seemingly both carefree and in denial, deep down she is aware of her pain, embraces it, and makes the choice to take life by the balls despite of it. Daphne is by far one of the most unique characters to grace the TV screen. She is a modern-day female Stoic, a great example of the concept promoted predominantly so far by males in mainstream media, that is until now. Great job, Mike White for creating the character and outstanding performance, Meghann Fahy! Bravo!

Why Tanya Too?
phneely-351-44353512 December 2022
Warning: Spoilers
I am liking how someone dies in the last episode of season 1 and 2; However I don't like the fact that Tanya died. Why just Why could've Tanya just landed in the speed boat unconscious and woke up later? And it appears Greg gets to keep all of Tanya's money. I am so disappointed about how Tanya character came to an end. I do think that Harper and Cameron slept together and their spouses slept with each other. And did anyone else noticed in one of the episodes when Daphne was trying to show Harper a picture of her trainer that she described with blonde hair but she "accidentally" showed a picture of her kids which had blonde hair. Was she trying to imply that the trainer was the father of at least one or both children and not Cameron? And of course Albie got played. And it's always something with the hotel managers. I hope there is a season 3.

A legit horrifying episode
stephaniearaneo12 December 2022
Warning: Spoilers
Well, after this episode, Jennifer Coolidge definitely secured another Emmy.

Tanya and Portia'a storyline came to such a brutal end this episode, and I was surprised at how genuinely terrified I was over her ordeal on the yacht. Jack is one of the most heartless and manipulative characters I have seen in a while. Him kidnapping and gaslighting Portia was a stark reminder for a younger woman like me to keep guards up while traveling.

I also think Daphne was a big surprise this season. I thought she was would be positioned as an easy character to hate, but I thought all of her opinions and moments were refreshingly honest.

Loved the finale! But a huge departure from last season's funnier poopgate ending.

A fitting end
solojere12 December 2022
I thought the White Lotus Season 2 finale was a fitting ending. The episode was full of tension and drama. One thing this show does well is building up the tension and not playing out the way you think or want. Harper's relationship with her husband had an interesting ending. That storyline, along with the story with Dominic and Portia, both felt tragic, and there is strange hopefulness to it. My only complaint was the deaths that were teased at the start of the season seemed a little over the top, but I won't spoil anything. Overall, season 2 was slightly better than season one, but they were both great.

I really want a Lucia and Mia spinoff show!
Laqshayaroraofficial12 December 2022
I loved the finale episode. For weeks I had been predicting who would die, but my predictions were wrong (to be honest, the scene in which one of the main characters died was nonsense). I really loved the last scene; I wanted it to happen, and I'm glad it did. Surprisingly, this season is way better than the first, with better characters and a better story. Maybe the resort and the resort manager were better in the first season, but other than that, this season is way better, and it is one of the best seasons of any show that I have watched. I am definitely waiting for the next season, but before that, I want to request HBO to please make a Lucia and Mia spinoff. I think it will be a big hit.

A finale worthy of an Italian opera
CuBO-LA12 December 2022
This season's tight interwoven narrative sticks the landing in a satisfying if tragically operatic finale. I love the evolution of Mike White's career - I admit nothing in his writer's resume (Pitch Perfect 3? The Emoji Movie?!) prepared me for his startling talent that's been on display since White Lotus' first season, and which has become even more layered and sophisticated in this second season. The complexity, vulnerability and manipulations found in pursuits of love and/or sex are embedded masterfully in White's story-telling and direction. The messiness of emotions, of desire, of yearning, of wishful thinking, and the potential for bad faith, predation, and lust to subvert and devastate those human motivations is beautifully conveyed all season. Here in the finale we get the gamut of conclusions, all inevitable in their own ways, ranging from heartbreaking to joyous, but none neat and tidy, and none with all our questions answered. It's a perfect balance of resolution and ambiguity, happy and sad, surprising and obvious.

White's ability to tackle all these themes, throwing them all up in the air in a precarious juggling act, and catch them all in the finale - just a masterclass and joy to experience.

A beautiful job. I hope I can sustain this level of excellence with a third season. I think he's so smart to make each season about a theme. First season was about money, entitlement and privilege. This one about sex and love. Pretty ambitious. I can't wait to see where Mike White goes from here.

Ciao, Sicily
kikilangmore31912 December 2022
I was nervous that this episode wasn't going to tie up everything I needed answers for due to the slightly disappointing end of season 1, but I finished this episode feeling very satisfied. All the performances are incredible and add to the tension that consistently builds all throughout the episode. I really appreciate the fact that this episode was a bit longer, since there was a lot that needed to happen. I think the ending was equally shocking and anxiety inducing, as it should be. I had no idea what to expect but I love the direction it took. I don't want to say too much because the episode does a great job of wrapping things up here.

Overall I think this was a great season, and I prefer over season 1. I am very excited to see what happens in season 3.

What a fantastic ending to a very well thought out season.
steun9113 December 2022
I'm surprised at how great this finale was. Season 2 was a perfectly thought out story. Season 1 started funnier, and ended in a bit of a dud (still worth a watch). Season 2 started as a slower burn, but it build up to a perfect episode of everything coming together.

So dark.

There's been many hints throughout the season for multiple twists in this final episode. Watching season 2 again knowing what is going down, must be very interesting.

I could go into detail about what was so perfect about this episode, but I don't want to spoil anything. Watch this series!

So glad it got renewed for season 3!

Very good season and episode, but....
seba-ortiz-lira29 January 2023
Warning: Spoilers
This season really absorbedme. I wanted to watch all episodes in just a night. So many stories, good scripts and acting...

BUT

Why Tanya had to die? And in some so ridiculous and less dignity way? She was an anchor in this season, with some of the most hilarious scenes, and even the final moments was one of the most intese ones in the entire series. But fall from a ship and hit the head was... easy scripting and the dumbest way to terminate a character.

Also, Albi giving a woman he mets in three days 50 MM EUR? He goes to Stanford for god sake. He's kind and a bit naive, but no stupid. And to tie all things up, he encounters Portia at the airport and exchange numbers with her, even considering that she literally played games with he too. Like she don't want to loose anything cause Jack tricked her too.

Nonetheless, a great episode. A great season and i'm very expectant of a new seasons.

Oh, and the main theme. What a great piece of song.

Best finale I've seen in some time!
gil190814 December 2022
What a finale! Some things get clearer, but some are still left untold for the viewer to fill in. I loved that this episode turns the comedy/drama show a little bit into a thriller, and a good one too. As always, great performances by all the actors, a great soundtrack, and great scenery. This finale left me wanting more, I just hope they can maintain the high bar they set for themselves for the next season, we've seen some shows that started strong but kind of faded away before, but this ones seems to get better in season 2 so I'm just hoping season 3 is even better. I also wonder if any season 2 characters make it to season 3.

Arrivederci
lassegalsgaard2 August 2023
To be truthful, I knew about the events that happened in this episode. I mean, if you had any social media around the time of the episode's release, you'd know. So I was excited to see if the episode would still be able to surprise and get to me, because Mike White has done a great job of expanding so many things this season, crafting a more interesting mystery, although some of the storylines have felt a little overblown. So did he bring it home? Yes, yes, yes, and a lot more yeses, because this episode was still shocking and was still a great time.

This season has been a true rollercoaster, and a lot of tension has risen between the characters over the last six episodes. However, instead of going completely crazy with the finale like he did for the first season, White takes a more subdued approach to it, still including his recognizable craziness, but actually giving the characters an opportunity to sit back and have a final gathering with each other and have it just being a nice and easy affair. It's a nice way to give closure to some of these arcs that have culminated in high tension, but also just to give the audience a breather after that crazy penultimate episode. With that said, there's plenty of craziness to appreciate here, and a lot of it has to do with the revelations of the people from Palermo and what is actually going on. Even though I knew where that was going, they did it in such a delicate and honorable way that it still came as a huge surprise. There was an ease to the whole affair, but it also felt very respectless, but in the best possible Mike White way, that's it difficult not to appreciate it. The acting has been stellar and may have even upped the performances of everyone in the first season, with Coolidge just nailing the character once again. She gets the chance to do something different here with Tanya, and it's incredible and heartbreaking, and it brings the episode and show to some dark and very shocking territories.

"Arrivederci" is the perfect sendoff for this batch of "The White Lotus," and leaves everyone clambering for more, building a strong anticipation for season three. It was a shocking finale that felt very laid back for, but also appropriately structured in such a way that the ease came with plenty of shocks and memorable moments.

Daphne is my favorite character
astonmatters8 January 2023
Absolutely loved the season, not so sure about the finale. Some of the storylines' endings are questionable and/or leave room for a lot of questions. But yes, many twists and turns. The most surprising twist was probably that Daphne ended up as my favorite character. At the beginning I mistook her for just some boring spoiled trophy wife, turns out: She is always aware of what's going on, always a step ahead and very adapt to dealing with wathever she faces. Some of the things she says are outright profound. Also hats off to Meghann Fahy for her portrayal. You can see all emotions flickering inside Daphne, even when she wants you to think otherwise. The scene with Ethan at the beach is pure gold. Outstanding performance.

I really love the show but i hate the ending of season 2
migjannab16 December 2022
Warning: Spoilers
The plot of the last one was exciting, I was curious who died in the water. After Tanya finally finds out what's been going on for a few episodes, she finally realizes that these *gay friends* were out to kill her. She succeeds like a final girl only to die ridiculously falling off the boat, so her husband will probably inherit her money. I don't understand why Mike White wanted to kill his character that listeners love so ridiculously. Hoping that season 3 her husband will be stopped and also I would like to see the characters from season 1 again, I found most of the new characters in season 2 less endearing.

Amazing finale! Can't wait for season 3!
alopezj12 December 2022
Warning: Spoilers
They did such a good job at keeping us on our toes and not letting us narrow down the big death until it actually happened unlike last season. Tanya's death was definitely the most foreshadowed throughout the season but I never felt that Portia was safe or Albie since he was getting involved with a "pimp". They did a great job at misleading us thinking that Cameron would be murdered by Ethan but in the end their journeys all made sense. I was satisfied with Ethan and Harpers growth as well as Albie and Portia's valuable lessons learned. Even at the end it seemed like Tanya was gonna survive but she was just not built for that kind of escape, I love that she went down swinging in the tragic end to her life. I think her story is meant to show how tragic life can be for rich people who struggle to make real human connections especially when they are blinded by sex as was the theme of this season. I hope Albie and Portia end up getting together and return next season and maybe Dominic will tag along with his wife. Greg should definitely make a return as well, I'd love to see what his life is like after everything that happened.

S02: an immense improvement from season 1
TheSpiritOfTheTimes25 December 2022
HBO prestige tv is back, baaabyyyy. Don't think I've ever seen such a leap in improvement between two seasons of the same show, albeit an anthology series. While the first season grated on me because it was so aggressively about The Discourse and was so insufferably au courant about a certain kind of American cultural set this is just much better scripted and genuinely funny at at time with some great casting, good actors and memorable performances, just much much better than the first season in all departments. The setting, ancient but lively Italy is also more enjoyable than insipid colonized Hawaii.

Don't Misunderstand the Show
christopher_roth14 December 2022
Warning: Spoilers
A lot of the complaints about the finale boil down to people behaving "stupidly", i.e. Portia getting in the car or Tanya hitting her head.

For me, this realism is what makes the show so satisfying.

Nothing that happened in the finale particularly shocked me, but it was still an engaging and exciting watch. A lot of the themes were tied up nicely and most of the outcomes made sense.

I really liked how they explored the dynamic of honesty in relationships. Should relationships be 100% honest or should there be some games to spice it up. (Obviously there's healthier ways to do this than Cam and Daphne)

I also liked how Albie didn't end up being toxic. Maybe he isn't totally the white knight he pretends to be, but he's learned from the mistakes of his parents and he's a pretty decent guy.

Season 2 even better than the first
dfloro12 December 2022
IMO, Mike White, the creator, writer and director of The White Lotus, is a genius. There, I said it. (Keep the stream going after the end of S2E7 to experience his thoughts on the characters.) From his time at the end of the '90s writing for Judd Apatow on Freaks & Geeks, through that perfect vehicle for Mr. Jack Black, 2003's School of Rock, and now the plethora of awards for this series, well this man hasn't been involved in anything that wasn't exceptional. I was wondering how he would wrap up all the story threads unwound in the previous six episodes, and he sure did that. And all the actors seem committed to his vision. Of course, the glue holding things together this season is the same as last: Jennifer Coolidge as Tanya. It's not possible to adequately describe her, as both the character and her embodiment of it are uniquely hers. And this year's additions include Aubrey Plaza as an outspoken wife becoming increasingly frustrated by her uptight husband (who seems to feel guilty even over the things he *didn't* do). There are 3 generations of Italian-American men seeking their Sicilian roots, and indeed anything to help ground their overindulgent desires. There's a local, high-end call girl and her best friend, a wanna-be singer; a couple of hotel staff members of note; and the one and only Tom Hollander, as Quentin, whose cadre of middle aged gay men anoint Tanya as their Diva Queen. Hollander has his own unique ability to be the most polite and respectful man you've ever seen, yet still project a little menace. Anyway, the "murder plot" all comes out in this 7th and final episode, and I dare anyone to see it coming in all its complexity and nuance. This episode, in particular, is the best of both seasons and so I rate it a 9/10 stars, which I rarely do.

Better than the first season
S3pt3m63r13 December 2022
Warning: Spoilers
I didn't think I was going to like this season at first. The characters seemed a bit 2 dimensional especially the son, dad and grandad trio. As the season progressed each character went through a developmental suited to their personality especially Tanya, (Jennifer) who is a needy insecure individual who is befriended by a group of gay men for her great beauty!! Another group comprises of two couples, one couple seem madly in love but the guy is promiscuous behind his wifes back which she knows about. The other couple are barely together who rarely have sex and the wife is jealous of the other couple. Needless to say there's a bit of shenanigans and jealousy between them and in the mix is two Italian hookers who get around the trio and the men of the couples. There's also a latent lesbian hotel manager who favours her female colleague and treats her male colleagues appallingly. And there's the intern who is at Tanya's beck and call and if she had chosen a different boyfriend then perhaps things might have turned out differently for Tanya. A delicious tale of sexual jealousy, intrigue and suspense.

Perfect
Gernot S.12 December 2022
(spoilers only for season one) This was the perfect ending to an almost perfect season. Last season, I wasn't happy with just one scene, which almost ruined it for me (in short: her, going back to him, who was one of the most dislikable characters I've ever seen on screen).

Not this season. It's a perfect mix of happy and not so happy endings, and I was on the edge of my seat, right until the end. I can honestly say, I didn't see that coming. Even more, up until the resolution, I couldn't even tell if the insinuated threat was real or not.

The pace was way better than that of season one, too. And Tanya, who I found so annoying in S1 that I started skipping her scenes, was toned down. Well, at least after the scenes with her husband early in the season, which were kind of hard to watch. At the end, I really started liking and rooting for her.

I truly enjoyed the jealousy theme, and the different approaches of the characters.

If Mr. White keeps improving the show like that, I can't wait for season 3.

Must-watch-TV.

Bloody hell that was good.
megantwisk28 June 2023
Warning: Spoilers
I enjoyed Season 1, especially the finale but Season 2 improved on it in every single way (other than the tortured addict soul of Armond who frankly stole the whole damned show in S1).

This season came out punching with story lines and misdirection starting out early on. I enjoyed how they circled back round to Tanya and Greg's romance in season two, only for any thought of the revolting, manipulative Greg to disappear by episode two right up until the final instalment.

We got to play the "so who's the corpse" game again all season long, and were once again well off the mark.

Tom Hollander, playing the gloriously camp and scheming Quentin was sublime.

Plenty of murky side stories muddying the water and shady characters you shouldn't like but do and lots of hoping others get some well earnt just desserts.

Very much look forward to seeing what they come up with for season 3.

The 10th star for Meghann Fahy's performance
Tichounko12 December 2022
I didn't like the second season as much as I loved the first one... at first.

There was no character as charismatic as Armond played by the fantastic Murray Bartlett in the first season and something was missing in the stories of the "new" people but lemme tell you:

The finale catapulted the second season from 7/10 back to 9-ish and that one scene where Meghann Fahy goes full Hopkins deserves the 10th star for her unforgettable performance. I srsly hope she'll get Emmy for this. At least the nomination.

The season wasn't perfect, there were plot and character holes of course (are Standford graduates really as... unmarked?) but all character arcs were closed in a believable and satisfactory way - and let's hope that the few that weren't will get closed in Season 3.

The mystery is over (spoilers)
dylio112 December 2022
Warning: Spoilers
The last piece of homework I did before watching the finale was to go back and rewatch Greg's scenes from season 1. It is meant to appear that by chance alone he has the room next to Tanya and is a bit tipsy so he gets his room number confused and is trying to open her door which works as a conversation starter. He is incredibly nice to her even when she hits him with an enormous load of crazy. His behavior bears no resemblance to his behavior in s2. The point of all this is that the Tanya con that finally comes to fruition in the s2 finale was brewing way back in Hawaii.

As the episode unfolds it becomes clear that Greg and Quentin have been running a long con on Tanya. She made Greg sign a prenup but in the event of her death he gets it all. This seems a bit unlikely but I am not lawyer. They plan to have the "mafia" guy who seduced Tanya in the previous episode do the dirty work. Tanya and Portia start to put this all together with Tanya effectively being held prisoner by Quentin and Portia by Essex boy toy Jack.

This little of bit of crime drama is clearly not Mike White's forte. It seems like some highly undisciplined behavior by Quentin (the photo of he and Greg laying around and his having sex with his "nephew") plus Jack's getting so hammered he spills some of the beans. It seems they could have just taken care of Tanya the night before when she was in a highly compromised state. In addition the mafia guy is going to leave his bag with a gun unattended when it is obvious she is becoming very suspicious. It was good and suspenseful but not really believable.

Ethan gets Harper to admit that she kissed the smarmy Cameron. This leads a physical fight between Ethan and Cameron. After Ethan has a heart to heart with Daphne she leads him away to an isolated locale and teaches him there is a fun way to cope with a cheating spouse.

Albie not surprisingly gets conned by Lucia and it is also apparent that Valentina was conned by Mia. However Albie and Valentina got the sex they want, the hookers got the money or job they want, Albie got a life lesson, Dominic gets a wife that seems willing to talk to him again, Ethan actually wants to have sex with Harper, and Daphne and Cameron are exactly the same as at the beginning.

So really it works out for everyone except Tanya...poor rich sad Tanya.

I really enjoyed this whole season with the exception of the potential murder of Tanya not being well thought out. You would need both a body and a non-suspicious death to collect her estate and Quentin did not seem to have a real plan for that.

not as good as season 1
kruemlkeks14 December 2022
Warning: Spoilers
To me, this season felt weaker.

At one point because there where more comedic moments last season because of the hotel director, his charm was missing here. Instead we got more "oblivious rich old hag" (to use the term of the british boy toy) which i didnt find compelling. I have to say im kinda happy they killed her off so that we dont have this stereotype in the next season. I like jennifer coolidge, but i felt her storylines took up too much time, i would have prefered to see the two rich couples fight more or some "conspiracy" around them come true, you know like they hinted a couple of times: "employee lawyer vs ceo", "money scam", "one couple trying to destroy another".

Instead of these power struggles and mental games we got some weak criminal plot. In my opinion it would have been more interesting if we had an plot twist and the murder plot was imagined.

The dad-dad-son group was alright, not really catching me, but the end felt a bit disappointing just with the payout and the girl leaving.

The first season also had more of an effort to connect all the different parties, where in this one you dont have much overlap and interaction with each other.

I hope for the next season they go back to more comedy and ridicoulousness while looking more into the powergames of relationships.

Patches of dark human desires
cjonesas26 February 2023
Warning: Spoilers
Another masterful season of the bright White Lotus that I liked very much , though to a lesser degree than the first one.

Daphne, Lucia and Mia were my favorite characters, especially the sophisticated Daphne who throughout the season showed charismatic sophistication engorged with devilish beauty. (Aubrey Plaza can take a special note on how to shine and provide one hell of a performance instead of her overcast weird trademark one).

The sceneries and filming were fantastic, especially under the sun and in broad daylight, the music and score all superbly caressing to your soul and the Italian language like a soothing healing "baume" to your wounds and pain.

I rated the episode a '9' all thanks to its marvelously diversified and bright six ones, but it's my opinion that the season finished one episode short and was hurriedly and conveniently wrapped up.

My feelings toward Tanya are mixed, on one hand she got a deserved fate (notwithstanding that ugly realistic fall) after her brilliant two seasons' performances, on the other hand, it's also my deep feeling that due to her unique character portrayal and weird crazy depressed all too brilliant acting, I'd have liked her to remain well and alive and enlighten us viewers with continuous and would be depressingly weird shiny performances.

It is also my opinion, as pointed out by another reviewer that Lucia and Mia incontestably deserve a spinoff of their own as they were basically one of the bright pillars of this season.

Kudos Mike White, you did it again! This time in a romantic Italian resort laced with patches of dark human desires.

Best episode on this season
diarylovergirl11 December 2022
Shocking episode!! I think it's one of the best so far ! Aubrey plaza was just amazing on this one. Jennifer collidge perfect as always! There was so many suspens and a lot of clues for the final episode. I think with this episode we can have an idea on who's gonna die in the final. Very good episode one of the best as i said i'll give it a 10 definitely worth it. There's not a lot of s** scene which is good because i think the story i not about it even if it's part of it. Portia is as always annoying but anyways it was a really really good episode and i think everyone should watch it cuz it's worth it.
