Whatever Happened To Vaudeville?
boblipton13 March 2023
A man is looking for a job at a construction site. When one becomes available, it turns out to be getting a mule into the traces and using him to pull some high explosives to where they're needed.

It's largely showing vaudevillian Red Donohue and his mule Uno in their stage act, an example of slapstick performance that seems almost cartoonish -- particularly when you notice the site is run by Acme Construction. Donohue and his second banana start with a bit of banter, but it's the mulishness of Uno that keeps things interesting.

It's also one of the few directing credits for Casey Robinson, better remembered as a writer of such films as NOW VOYAGER and CAPTAIN BLOOD.
