As the stars of Chucky mourn the Syfy show’s death, they have faith in Damballa that the horror franchise will soon be resurrected.
Following Friday’s news that the Child’s Play spin-off series will end after three seasons, creator Don Mancini continued to tease the killer doll’s onscreen future amid a #RenewChucky fan campaign as he and the show’s stars reacted to its cancelation.
“He’LL Be Back,” wrote Mancini on X, sharing Deadline’s previous report. “I have so much love for our amazing fans. Your #RenewChucky campaign meant the world to me during a very difficult time. Chucky says to tell all of you, quoting himself: ‘See ya real soon.'”
Jennifer Tilly, who reprised her role from the films as Tiffany Valentine (and herself) for the series, also shared her reaction on the platform. “So sad to announce that after three wonderful seasons the...

Netflix is removing 34 movies and TV shows from the streaming service in October 2024, and we have the full list of titles that are set to expire.
Unfortunately, this is a monthly occurrence for the streamer, and there’s always a few fan faves included. Often, it’s due to licensing deals expiring and sometimes, titles will often end up popping up on other streamers.
There are some horror films being removed, so if you’re in the Halloween spirit, you might want to watch some of the Chucky franchise titles before they’re taken away! Other notable titles leaving include Save the Last Dance, the Magic Mike films, Jack Reacher films, Crazy Rich Asians, and more.

Fans of the comedy horror Bodies Bodies Bodies will be disappointed to learn that the movie will leave Netflix on Sept. 19, 2024. But the good news is that a long list of horror comedies is available on the streaming service to fill the void. And don't miss this year's Netflix & Chills lineup.
Bodies Bodies Bodies and other horror comedies are a unique subgenre of horror that mixes slasher elements with absurd comedic ones. Mixing comedy with horror is nothing new, as Edgar Allan Poe and other writers often combined the two in their works.
Bride of Chucky
Bride of Chucky is the fourth installment of the Child's Play franchise, written by creator Don Mancini and directed by Ronny Yu, also known for Freddy vs. Jason (2003). Brad Dourif returns as the voice of Chucky, with Jennifer Tilly portraying Tiffany Valentine, a role she would reprise in several other installments of the franchise.

Netflix is like a goldmine of entertainment, offering everything from gripping series and eye-opening documentaries to laugh-out-loud comedy specials. But let’s be real -- just because it’s on Netflix doesn’t mean it’s worth your time. Case in point: this August, the streaming giant has dropped not one but two comedy specials that we confidently brand as must-skips.
Wondering which comedy specials you should pass on? We’ve got you covered -- no need to guess!

In May 2024, Netflix CEO Ted Sarandos made a strange claim to The New York Times. Discussing "Barbenheimer," Sarandos insisted that the success of "Barbie" and "Oppenheimer" wasn't related to the fact that both were released in theaters and made an event out of physically going to the movies. "Both of those movies would be great for Netflix. They definitely would have enjoyed just as big an audience on Netflix," he said. That suggestion seems ... unlikely. But Sarandos wasn't done. "There's no reason to believe that the movie itself is better in any size of screen for all people," he said. "My son's an editor. He is 28 years old, and he watched 'Lawrence of Arabia' on his phone."
Leaving aside what a travesty that example is, Sarandos is simply incorrect. Many movies are, indeed, better when they're bigger, because the theatrical experience is beneficial for two main reasons. First,...

Brad Dourif has had an incredible acting career that stretches back more than fifty years – and back in the early days of that career, he even earned a “Best Actor in a Supporting Role” Oscar nomination for his performance in the 1975 classic One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest. Over a decade later, he started playing the role he is best known for, that of Charles Lee Ray, a.k.a. Chucky, a serial killer who uses voodoo to transfer his soul into the body of a doll. Dourif is now 74 years old, so when we hear that he has decided to retire from acting, it’s totally understandable… but while talking about his retirement, Dourif has also made sure to assure fans that his days of Chucky are not over. He will still continue to work on any Chucky projects that might come up.

Tom Holland's 1988 film "Child's Play" was initially meant to be a satire of the commercial madness that swept the world when Cabbage Patch Kids proliferated through the marketplace a few years before. What if, "Child's Play" asked, the soul of a vicious serial killer possessed your ultra-hot Christmas toy? The result was a genuinely creepy supernatural thriller about a young boy named Andy (Alex Vincent) his single mom (Catherine Hicks) and the mysterious Good Guy doll who likely contains the personality of Charles Lee "Chucky" Ray (Brad Dourif), known to the police as the Lakeshore Strangler.
Like many of the slasher films of the 1980s, "Child's Play" was extensively sequelized. The mythos of Chucky the killer doll expanded, leading to strange byzantine rules of voodoo magic (Chucky uses a magical amulet and magic spells to shunt his soul into a doll body), as well as inter-doll mating, and a lot of queerness.

Unleashed on theaters in 1988, director Tom Holland's "Child's Play" introduced America to Chucky, a My Buddy-like doll inhabited by the soul of a foul-mouthed serial killer. Equal parts absurd and frightening, that first movie spawned six sequels, a remake, and a TV series. Of all the iconic '80s horror villains, he's the only one still written by his original creator, Don Mancini. As such, the TV series has brought back many actors and characters from throughout the franchise's history, in an increasingly complicated -- and refreshingly LGBTQ-positive -- narrative of epic proportions. A narrative that involves Devon Sawa playing multiple roles, for some reason.

I don’t need to inform anyone that mainstream Hollywood entertainment is still in the grips of a franchise and IP based fervor. Mega franchises, sequels, reboots, requels, remakes – all of these have been the lion’s share of high profile releases for well over a decade now. Everything from the most recognizable franchises in film history to more niche pop cultural artifacts have been resurrected, dusted off, and had a new coat of paint air-brushed on.
Every day across social media the online film community seems to litigate “the state” of Hollywood.
Superhero fatigue. Franchise fatigue. You know the discourse. Personally, I take as much of a nonchalant attitude with all this stuff as I can. I have my peccadillos. I have my areas of agreement regarding “the state” of Hollywood. But at the end of the day I’m just…a dude. A dude who just wants to...

Four years after Curse of Chucky reunited horror hounds with their favorite Good Guy, writer-director Don Mancini continued to pile on the decades-long story with its seventh entry, Cult of Chucky. Like Curse, the straight-to-vod sequel revolves around one location — in this case, a mental hospital — and follows the exploits of Nica Pierce (Fiona Dourif), whose fate continues to add a disturbing spin to the term “final girl”.
Does it all work, though? Or is it too much story for one movie? That’s a question the Halloweenies will try to answer in their latest episode. Join the gang as they make sense of the intertwining arcs and the layered mythology, chart the influence of the hospital as a horror setting, dream up the 2017 soundtrack-that-could-have-been, and mull over how this film (and also Curse) truly set the stage for the ensuing TV series.

Blumhouse and Universal's "Five Nights at Freddy's" movie is looking more and more like it has the makings of being the reason for the Halloween season, and a big part of the allure is seeing the larger-than-life animatronics of Foxy, Bonnie, Chica, and Freddy Fazbear in live-action. The fearsome foursome of Freddy Fazbear's Pizzeria (home to child murder and possessed robot animals) represents the introduction to horror for a new generation, so it was important that no shortcuts were taken in bringing them all to life. Fortunately, the creative team behind "FNaF" went above and beyond by enlisting the services of the legendary Jim Henson's Creature Shop. With the help of some of the very best in the biz, all of the animatronics look character-correct ... and downright terrifying.
While the "FNaF" baddies could have very easily stayed as digital creations as they debuted in Scott Cawthon's video games,...

In 2013, nearly 10 years after Seed of Chucky hit theaters, Charles Lee Ray came home. Sort of. He arrived on the doorsteps of not only the Pierce family, but all the fans who had been waiting for years to see their favorite Good Guy in another misadventure. Needless to say, Don Mancini delivered with Curse of Chucky.
Is Curse the greatest direct-to-video sequel of all time? That’s a question for the Halloweenies to answer — and they do. Elsewhere, they also discuss Mancini’s direction, Chucky’s new face, the leading chops of Fiona Dourif, Universal 1440 Entertainment, the glory of Winnipeg, all of those great graphics, and more.

There’s something inherently unsettling about inanimate objects that move on their own accord. Especially if they happen to resemble people. Which is what makes dolls so perfect for the horror genre; the uncanny valley of it all heightens the fear response in audiences.
This week’s streaming picks belong to the killer doll subgenre. These pint-sized homicidal maniacs deliver plenty of scares, heart, humor, and occasionally a great fashion sense.
As always, here’s where you can stream them this week.

This Amicus Production feature sets its wraparound in an asylum, where a doctor arrives for a job interview. His interviewer subjects him to an unorthodox interview process, which entails four tales of terror. The final segment before the epilogue, “Mannikins of Horror,” introduces a mad scientist type in Dr.

Tubi opens June with an intense WWII drama “Inglourious Basterds.” Allied officer Lt. Aldo Raine (Brad Pitt) assembles a team of five tough Jewish soldiers to spread fear throughout the Third Reich. They have one assignment: assassinate Nazi leaders. Quentin Tarantino wrote and directed the unconventional war drama. Eli Roth, Melanie Laurent, and Christopher Walz co-star.
Watch the trailer of “Inglourious Basterds”:
The network is also streaming the original documentary “Mystery Unsolved: The Adnan Syed Story” on June 7. The murder of teenager Hae Min Lee was the focal point of a “Serial” podcast, which questioned if boyfriend Syed was her killer. After serving 22 years in prison, Syed was released, still proclaiming his innocence. Now, he may return.
Another streamer original, “Magic Carpet Rides,” arrives June 14. It centers on a social influencer torn between sharing her budding romance or honoring her boyfriend’s request to keep their life private.

But a lot of the big horror franchises are still waiting to receive their definitive documentaries. Last year, I read the book Reign of Chucky, a film-by-film examination of the Child’s Play / Chucky franchise that was packed with interesting information about the making of the movies. Filmmaker Kyra Elise Gardner’s examination of the Child’s Play franchise comes from a personal place in Living with Chucky, debuting on Screambox and Digital on April 4, 2023.
Kyra Elise Gardner is the daughter of Tony Gardner, one of the most prominent and integral special effects artists in the “Chucky” franchise. For the Gardners, Chucky is family.
And the Chucky films, well, they’re often about family as well.
The filmmaker’s familial relationship with the killer Good Guy doll, voiced by Brad Dourif, fittingly coincided with the horror icon unexpectedly finding himself a family in Bride of Chucky. Bride, penned by Don Mancini and directed by Ronny Yu, gave series protagonist Andy Barclay (Alex Vincent) a much-needed rest and instead introduced franchise mainstay Tiffany Valentine (Jennifer Tilly), opening up new layers to Chucky in the process.

God of War Ragnarok is many things, but one of the game’s best features is its nearly unrivaled cinematic presentation style. Of course, the sequel’s ambitious narrative and storytelling would be nothing without the perfect cast of voice actors to play every character.
Thankfully, Ragnarok features such a cast. While many of the game’s principal characters (and voice actors) are returning from 2018’s God of War, those familiar faces and voices are joined by some fully-realized new characters that help make this game the most epic God of War adventure yet.
Before we dive a bit deeper into all that, you should know that the full God of War: Ragnarok cast is massive. Not only would it be incredibly difficult to list every single voiced character in the game in anything close to a legible format, but we would be spoiling a significant portion of the game...

If you aren’t watching Syfy’s original series “Chucky,” then you’re missing out on an irreverent, fun, and spooky continuation of Don Mancini’s “Child Play” universe. You’re also missing out on an Emmy-worthy performance from actress Fiona Dourif. “An Emmy for the ‘Chucky’ series?” you ask. Honestly, it’s worth it for more than just Dourif (but she’s the Mvp).
The writing is sharp, with its meta pokes at Hollywood — thanks to Jennifer Tilly’s hilarious dual performance as Tiffany Valentine and Jennifer Tilly — as well as organized religion and the horror landscape in general. And the puppetry effects leave the audience believing they’re seeing a sentient Charles Lee Ray himself, as opposed to some object being yanked and manipulated by three people.

Many horror fans say they grew up with Chucky, but none can claim a connection to the slashing doll quite like filmmaker Kyra Elise Gardner. As the daughter of special effects legend Tony Gardner – who helped bring Chucky to life countless times – she experienced Chucky’s evolution at home. Not every four-year-old can say Chucky was waiting for them after kindergarten class!
Since Seed of Chucky, Tony Gardner has been the head puppeteer of our favorite pint-sized murderer, giving Kyra Elise Gardner some killer memories of her father’s meticulous design work and puppeteering. Now, Gardner describes Chucky as “a little brother,” who travels with her to film festivals or watches her from the corner of the room during interviews like the creepiest (and best) “stuffed animal.” But her bond to the doll and its connection to her family has shifted over time, inspiring her to craft a documentary about the experience,...

There was also a remake released a few years ago, but that didn’t impact the continuing story of the original Chucky.
Here’s the information on Wtf You Need to Know:
Sometimes binging a whole franchise just isn’t feasible as there are only so many hours in the day.

It's admirable how dedicated "Chucky" creator Don Mancini has been to shepherding this world across the greater span of three decades. Chucky has been his baby ever since he constructed the script that would ultimately become "Child's Play." While some slasher icons have taken to space travel in the latter part of their own franchise, Chucky is the rare example of a character that has committed to staying on his own unique path.
Across seven feature films and one season of television, the "Chucky" series has successfully experimented in wild tone shifts while remaining firm in sticking to one continuity. Plunging from the haunted house chills of "Curse of Chucky" directly after the ultra campy "Seed of Chucky" is a case of tonal whiplash that, while drastic, is more than welcome.

You just can't keep a Good Guy down. Though momentarily interrupted by molten plastic, shotgun blasts, and an Osha-violating carnival fan, Chucky has managed to survive seven feature films, a surprisingly awesome remake, and a television series entering its second season. The USA and SyFy co-production from "Chucky" creator Don Mancini has been pulling double duty as it follows a new set of characters, while also building upon the momentous events from "Cult of Chucky."
With a full season under its belt, "Chucky" has done a great job of sticking to its decades-long continuity, which has undergone a number of tone shifts. Brad Dourif has voiced the little psycho puppet since the '80s, with only the kind of foul-mouthed flair that he brings to this character. "A true classic never goes out of style," as Chucky would say.

"Child's Play" and all things Chucky have always been a part of Fiona Dourif's life. Her father, the Oscar and Emmy nominated and Golden Globe-winning actor Brad Dourif has a remarkable career spanning over four decades, but for a huge subset of society, he'll always be known best as the voice of Chucky and the serial killer Charles Lee Ray. A few years into an acting career of her own, Fiona was brilliantly cast as the wheelchair-using Nica Pierce in "Curse of Chucky," and returned only to be possessed by half of Charles Lee Ray's soul in "Cult of Chucky." Now, four years later, Nica has...

Ever since her arrival in Curse of Chucky as Nica Pierce, Fiona Dourif has quickly become one of my favorite players in the Chuckyverse, with her work on the new Chucky TV series allowing her to hit all-new creative highs with her character, or characters, which might be a more precise way of putting things these days.
Daily Dead recently had the opportunity to speak with the absolutely delightful Dourif, who discussed everything from her initial fears coming into the franchise, eventually taking on the character that her dad made iconic nearly 35 years ago, her mind-blowing transformation via prosthetics in Chucky, sharing scenes with Jennifer Tilly, and so much more.
Check out our interview with Fiona Dourif below, and be sure to tune in for the final two episodes of the first season of Chucky on Tuesday nights on both Syfy and USA Network.
