Crime Lords
A_Kind_Of_CineMagic1 October 2020
Darth Maul takes his brother Savage Oppress as his apprentice and declares they are Crime Lords. He has a plan to get involved in the crime world and gain power through it building up patiently to get his revenge on Obi Wan. However, Obi Wan and his fellow Jedi warrior Gallia are on his tail and confront him before he is ready amongst the pirates Maul is trying to recruit.

The aspect of the pirates and returning character Hondo is fun and lightens what is otherwise very dark material. Maul and Oppress are very vicious and menacing characters and the intensity is brilliant.

The battle between the Jedi and the Maul/Oppress force is fantastic with an epic lightsaber duel.

The themes of revenge and the hurt from the past for both Maul and Obi Wan adds depth and this is a great episode.

My rating: 10/10.

Promising Start

Season five starts with a promising future, which keeps you wondering as to what Darth Maul is actually upto.

Firstly I was against the concept of Darth Maul's survival, but I am beginning to accept the fact episode by episode. If you look at it the other way it is a curious concept and it will be interesting to know as to how will Anakin react when faced with the truth of death of Qui-Gon Jinn, and the fact that his killer is back for revenge.

It seems Maul has some different plans than to face Kenobi in an all out duel as of yet. I felt this episode a little "disconnected" from the previous one. Maybe its just me! Anyways Maul seem to lack the brute strength and rough or scary fighting style which he had in the Phantom Menace. Savage is OK. The episode is bit dark for the underage audience, but is a good thing as it provides a certain intensity. Also it has some great action scenes.

Direction/Animation: Great. Animation seems improved from the previous seasons.

Script: Above Average.

Music: Awesome.

Overall an enjoyable episode.

8.9?? This episode is better than most breaking bad and game of thrones episodes. The music the humour and the fighting is amazing. Hondo and maul spell quality entertainment. Poor adi gallia I think it is. Getting horned by savage must of hurt LMAO.

Rematch Kenobi vs Maul and Savage
Nikostrange13 July 2022
Warning: Spoilers
This episode has one of the best fights in all of the Clone Wars.

Kenobi is outnumbered by Maul and Savage but wins the fight by cutting off Savages arm leaving the brothers running away.

The episode shows that Maul and Savage aren't invincible, foreshadowing their loss in this season.

"At last I shall have my revenge"

Maul is a legitimate threat both as a villain and as a rival to Kenobi. Him and Savage make for an excellent Sith crime pair, which, at the time of this episode's airing, was not common. I also remember watching Revenge, the finale of season 4, live on television thinking how sick Darth Maul's return was, and this season 5 opener does not waste a beat.

Why its not rated a 10 is because it is not chronologically the first episode of season 5. Events in the youngling arc were mentioned, which may confuse those that watched this episode first. Also couldn't they have just had a stealthy pirate follow Maul and Savage as they chase Kenobi and just shoot at them. I mean that would make for a boring episode so I sorta get it.

I love how the Sith lords try to manipulate the pirates into joining them, but their reconciliation with Hondo felt way too quick and they shouldve at the very least been locked up for aligning themselves with sith lords.

I felt really bad for Adi Gallia in this episode, as while her character was mostly relegated to the background, you could tell she was outmatched and got absolutely pummeled after making the kenobi-kick-to-the-knee mistake that he did on grievous, only this time it cost her life. It makes the severing of Savage's arm more satisfying and adds depth and weight to the fight as Kenobi clutches the 2v1 vs Maul.

I loved loved loved Hondo as always, and he never fails to entertain as he deals with the space jedi mumbo-jumbo, and the ending foreshadows Palpatine's plans for Maul and his little speech about Maul not being a threat was interesting, considering that he made the speech just so he could isolate Maul as his only prime target. I also like that there was little plot armor, for both heroes and villains.

Great episode.
