It's fair to say that the world is ready to see more of Stephanie Hsu. Following her success with "Everything Everywhere All at Once", the actor has taken on several new projects, including the Disney+ series "American Born Chinese" and the raunchy comedy "Joy Ride," which she stars in alongside "Emily in Paris" star Ashley Park.
The film, which hit theaters on July 7, centers around a lawyer named Audrey (Park) who travels to China with a group of her closest friends in search of her birth mother. The unapologetic, hilarious nature of the flick gave Hsu a chance to do something outside her normal bubble, which was a thrill to experience, according to the actor. "It felt so exciting to get to do what we never get to do, which is to be completely unhinged, disgusting, grotesque, chaotic, wild, but still so full of heart," she explained in a July 2023 interview with Elle.

Get ready for a ton of mic-drops: TruTV has greenlit a new comedy competition series, “Comedy Knockout,” TheWrap has learned. The Damien Lemon-hosted show pits comedians against each other in a series of fast-paced challenges and gives the audience sole discretion to decide who is the funniest person in the room. In each episode, the “Guy Code” alum will send three comics into battle. With points doled out based on the audience’s applause, it’s all about one-upmanship as competitors attempt to land massive comedy blows and whip the rowdy crowd into a frenzy of raucous laughter, per the Turner cable channel.

Last week, in the wake of Eddie Huang's complaints that he felt ABC's "Fresh Off the Boat" was distorting and softening his childhood experiences, this column examined how hard it is for any biographical or autobiographical sitcom to be true to the life of its source and still be a crowd-pleasing primetime network entertainment. You'd think, after decades of trying, TV writers and network programming executives would be aware of this.
Nonetheless, according to The Hollywood Reporter, the networks have no fewer than ten such sitcom pilots in production, as the first episodes of potential 2015-16 primetime series. Some are based on the lives of already famous entertainers, some on the self-referential stand-up comedy routines of not-quite-famous comics, and some on memoirsts who've lived interesting lives.
