The stakes go up
Mr-Fusion1 February 2017
'Risk' is the penultimate fourth season episode, and you can sense it. Feels like the sun's about to set on the arcs for Sherman & Bryant and Tang & Cooper. And as buildup to the finale, this is excellent TV.

I have to admit it's frustrating that Lydia's not accepting the reality of her pregnancy. Clearly, he's her job that defines her (obviously can't bear a child while carrying a gun and wearing a bulletproof vest) but she can't have it both ways. And here we have a scene where she's attacked by a knife-wielding gangbanger (awful scene, very intense). Yeah, she's complicated, but you just want to slap her.

The situation with Sammy, Ben and Ronny the evil pimp has certainly darkened, culminating in the shock ending (series trademark); so has the partnership between Cooper and Tang (the latter of whom is inching toward a promotion while doubling down on her false statement to the review board). The scenes with Cooper make it clear: there's no going back with these two.

It's not all doom and gloom; there's actually some great humor here, between the angry sushi chef and the drunk-n-disorderly dressed as a golf ball. The lighthearted moments happen just when they need to.
