Great buildup, silly and rushed ending

It's a no brainer laughter riot with such a promising ensemble. Not a bad movie on the whole, you just leave with rushed feeling.

The movie and chaos was moving in the right direction, they rushed it too fast in the end. Not sure who was short of time to make it end well.

Such a huge talented list of actors wasted with no proper screen time and dialogues. Likes of Vijay Raaz., Manoj Joshi, Abhishek Banerjee deserved more dialogues and screen time.

Editing and continuity in a few scenes was it poorest and so obvious, after all it's Balaji! They are used to churning content!

If you're stressed and/or just wish to laugh, do go watch the movie. If you are a person who will nit pick, save your money!

Watch it for Ayushmann and humour!!

This is a sequel to Dreamgirl but the plot remains roughly the same. In order to impress and convince Pari's (Ananya Panday) father, Karam (Ayusmann) takes up the job of a bar dancer as a girl (Pooja) and he dances so well that he ends up getting a lot of male attention and finally a marriage proposal that offers him 50 lakh rupees.

Not seeing any better deal, he agrees to it and the rest is history. But even the history remains the same as the first part. So no surprises on the story here.

What is surprising in this part is the complete transformation of Karam into Pooja while previously it was just the voice, this time it is entirely a girl.

And Ayushmann nails this transformation, nowhere he looks like a guy and the dance performances: both the songs; "Jamnapar" and "Mar jawangi" are beautifully shot and the dancing skills of Ayushmann are terrific; as graceful as any female dancer would have had.

The another good part is that barring a few over the top scenes, the entire film is so humorous; the first scene itself just got me: it opened with the "Jagran" performance on the song "Naach". With actors like Vijay Raaz, Rajpal Yadav, Paresh Rawal, Anu Kapoor, Abhishek Banerjee, Sudesh Lehri; the film was filled with plenty of punches and gigs. I was in laughs and awe the whole time.

So, watch it for all the humour from amazing pool of actors and definitely Ayushmann!!

A Wannabe Dream Comedy Turned Into An Almost Nightmare

Dream Girl 2 (2023) : Movie Review -

Ayushmann Khurrana is back as Pooja in Raaj Shandilyaa's Dream Girl 2. The idea of gender-bending comedy hasn't been explored to its core in Bollywood. The last full-fledged attempts in my memory are Aunty No. 1 and Chachi 420-both heavily inspired by Hollywood movies. Good-looking cross-dressing comedies like "Tootsie" (1982) and "Mrs. Doubtfire" (1993) never made it to my must-see list, but they have been quite noticeable for this category. Erst Lubitsch introduced me to the idea of gender-bending comedy way back in time with his silent flick, "I don't Want To Be A Man" (1918). But my best memory of this theme takes me to Billy Wilder's "Some Like It Hot" (1960), and I don't think any film can ever replace it. Dream Girl is in the same category if you talk about the similarities, but as a film, it's hundreds of miles away. You show me that film again today, and it would still be better and far more modern than DG 2. The idea has to look fresh, and it should be wrapped in organic laughter. That's how you make a cult film. Dream Girl 1 had that freshness because we never had any female-caller film, and it was a perfect entertainer for the mobile era. The film wasn't anything great or extraordinary enough to get a mandatory sequel, and it didn't even become a brand. Yet, some money-loaded minds in Bollywood have that urge to make a sequel to a box office hit, and so we have Dream Girl 2. This Raaj Shandilyaa comedy has comedy, but it's terribly outdated and badly written. Those 130 minutes never turn into a headache, and that's the biggest Thanksgiving. Rest assured, you are in for some hysterical one-liners from Shahrukh and Suniel Shetty to Shilpa Shetty, as well as lots of filmy-style lines and spoofs.

Dream Girl 2 is about Karamveer (Ayushmann Khurrana), a Jagrata singer and dancer who is going through financial debts. He is in love with a lawyer named Pari (Ananya Panday), and they both wish to get married soon. However, Pari's father is against the marriage, as he wants his son-in-law to have a steady job and a solid bank balance. He gives Karam six months to achieve that, but is that easy? As Karam says, "Roadies chal raha, task de rahe ho mujhe?" To win Pari's hand in marriage, Karam is advised to become Pooja, the "Dream Girl," by his best friend, Smiley (Manjot Singh). After his portrayal of Pooja, there are Sona Bhai (Vijay Raaz), Shahrukh (Abhishek Banerjee), Tiger Pandey (Ranjan Raj), Shahrukh's father, Abu Salem (Paresh Rawal), his sister, Jumani (Seema Pahwa), and others to make this one crazy maze of fun, misunderstandings, and laughter.

Dream Girl has a funny script and kicking one-liners, but the screenplay feels illogical most of the time. You don't even realise when it turns into a daily soap and then switches again to feature film mode. The flaws are unlimited, but some can be forgiven as long as they bring enough gags. An educated lawyer doesn't have the IQ to understand why MF Hussain's horse paintings are worth 5 lacs. A person can become a girl just to make money so that he can marry his girlfriend, but he is never worried about a steady job, which will make his married life happy. A homosexual person in depression can have a smile on his face just by looking into a girl's eyes, and the next moment they are reading Nikah-without even having a conversation. A big bunch of supporting cast members have no tail and no head to their characters, yet the entire plot revolves around them. The hero is all talk, no action, and no work, but he loves the girl and can do anything. The old tricks of oranges, toilet changing, and one man at one place with two personalities continue insisting on reliability tirelessly. The flaws are too many and can't be overlooked, so a little bashing is needed here. Raaj Shaandilyaa and Naresh Kathooria, Are you sure you were writing a modern comedy?

Dream Girl is all about Ayushmann Khurrana, and the first film proved why. Aayushmann was in a different form then, and he's pretty dull nowadays. Well, the box office results don't seem to have any side effects on his performance. Yes, Dream Girl 2 is too cheesy and pulpy for his stature, but he never made it look cheap. It could have been so with any other actor of his generation, I tell you. Pooja's voice worked for me alright, but not her physical appearance. Why were those males going gaga over her, by the way? Ananya Panday comes and goes with small small scenes and looks beautiful in every single one of them. Acting wasn't required here. Dream Girl 2 has a dream cast for any comedy movie you can think of, but are those comedy legends justified? Somewhat Yes, somewhat no. Paresh Rawal hardly has any gags for you, and Annu Kapoor is totally out of form. Both feel exhausted while delivering their dialogues. Seema Pahwa seems to have fun, but she's too loud sometimes. Rajpal Yadav makes his presence felt, while Abhishek Banerjee is mostly silent. The table topper here is Vijay Raaz. He has a fine role to play and some hilarious dialogues that were written for him only. Nobody else could have made those dialogues come alive like he did. Manjot Singh is typically funny; Asrani passes away before you can know that he is alive; and Manoj Joshi's boyish accent isn't helpful at all.

Comedy is not easy. I agree, but it's definitely easier than turning the same comedy into cringeworthy jokes. Raaj must have been very fond of Facebook memes and WhatsApp forwards because his writing seemed more dependent on them. Talking about technical aspects, Dream Girl 2 would land in a safe zone. The camerawork, editing, and background score have been decent enough. Raaj Shaandiyaa has directed only one movie to date, so it's technically unfair to ask too much of him. If it weren't for those expectations, or even the standalone sequel to cash in on the non-existing brand, then Dream Girl 2 would have been a decent, average comedy. But if he is trying to make something out of his previous box office hit and letting people think that this is the same material again, which is happening with Dream Girl 2 if I'm not wrong, then sorry. It's a below-average film and an almost skippable affair. A wannabe dream comedy turned into a nightmare, but my question is, why dream so much in the first place?

DISASTER!

Buoyed by the success of the first part (which was a good movie)the filmmaker should have been encouraged to make a much better film than the 1st one. However he has instead made complete,absolute and total garbage with everyone's acting(except Annu Kapoor who was brilliant and to a lesser extent Vijay Raaz who was above average)being totally useless. Paresh Rawal was totally wasted and Ananya Pandey neither has any acting potential whatsoever,(at least in this movie)nor is she good looking. Besides a very very very few amount of funny jokes(mostly by Annu Kapoor) everything including the songs was terrible 1/10.

Ayushmann is known for his different characters which are always unique but this time he has overdone it with his overacting..ananya was as usual a show piece rest there were many great actors but no one was extraordinary

The movie has a old content of man being a woman for her daily needs where they have connected with his love story and same old drama of girls father keeping terms of money..the much expected humour was totally missing, the songs are not recognised though they have shown in large sets..the movie was mindlessly going from here and there and tried to connect but it failed

Dream girl the first one was a cult it had that naughtiness and high humour but the sequel doesn't Maintains the brand name

Sorry for bad reviews as was expecting a lot from this team though it is working well on collection numbers.

The primary objective of a comedy movie is to make people laugh and make audiences entertained with one-liners and shrewd humour. Raaj Shaandilyaa's 'Dream Girl 2' does that and some more.

It may not be ridiculously funny or insanely witty, but the engaging exchange of dialogues and screenplay will keep a broad smile on your face for the entirety, and that's an accomplishment in my book.

My gripe is that despite having quite a stupendous ensemble fraught with infinite talent and potential, the writing here could not provide all the actors the amount of space they deserved. Other than that, this was a fun watch, regardless of its silly, crass nature.

Forced, Superficial and Timepass Comedy! Nothing new!

I'd have loved Dreamgirl 2 had it been different from Dreamgirl1. But the former gives the same kind of feeling as the latter.

The narrative goes haywire and ends up as just a mishmash of situations, too much of Nautanki and too many characters pursuing each other. There are also many unnecessary Comedy pieces!

Comedy that is well-presented - but not FORCED - & makes you laugh naturally requires special Comedy Intelligence - which, unfortunately, very few people in the world have. That is why such Comedy films are very, very RARE!

How many good comedy films can you think of in the last 40 years?

Excellent work on dialogue timings perfectly balanced matched and nicely presented but predictable.

.. You'll definitely get your fill of laughter.

All Characters are nicely casted and played there role well.. Once more, Ayushmaan Khurrana excelled entertain in the role of the dream girl.

Makers worked hard on presentation of work but failed at story writing. Good First half but second half is not that good.

The movie took a bad turn after the interval when the situation changed from the first half.

. Good laughter material, a finale wording or feeling for movie is that this is a one-time watch or an OTT platform material.. But overall nice.

It was a wonderfully funny family film that was a complete entertainer.

A Great Disaster

First of all I am really really pissed that they decided to cast Ananya Pandey opposite of Ayushman Khurana. I'm a huge fan of Ayushman and really really hate Ananya Pandey's over acting. She doesn't really have any sort of expression in her face and her dialogue delivery is so so bad. And I was upset with ayushman's performance as well since we remember dream girl part 1 and it was a huge hit. We were so hopeful that we are about to see another blockbuster comedy. But throughout the entire movie there was not even a single scene where I could laugh. The dialogue writer didn't do a good job at all.... the script was weak.

Vijay raaz and Annu kapoor better than lead

Sir Annu kapoor and Sir Vijay raaz stole the show, Ayaushman and others wasnt even that good, if anyone who watched it , they know.. even Paresh rawal ji was no match with those two.. Please give it a thought, and I promise You will try to find more movies in which they have worked.. if a great writer, direction acompnies them.. they will destroy every other actors.. tjey are genuinley that good, i hope if brijendra kala have joined them.. Brijendra kala ji , along with annu kapoor ji and vijay raaz ji have been given very small amount screen time, good stories and expososure in big commercial movies.. they deserve more and better.

Audio fine Video not Good

Dream girl 1 was good since a man talking like a woman over phone and men falling for it is believable. But dream girl 2 is like video call of Dream girl 1. Ayushman doesn't look like a beautiful girl wearing saree or kuti. He Looks more of a Trans and lots of men still fall for it. Story is similar to DG 1 and instead of just voice, this time it's video. Lots of coincidence to create comedy. No idea why people from different religions are added and everyone is 100% secular especially in the matter of marriage.

Ayushmaan should come of this kind of movie making. It's becoming repetitive. Ananya should quit acting. Rajpal just wasted. Only annu Kapoor , Vijay raaz and tiger pandey were good and funny. Not even time pass watch.

I BETTER WATCH GADAR 2 again.. over confidence ruin Dream Girl 2

Dream Girl 2- copied scenes from the following CHACHI 420, PAYING GUEST, BUDHA MAR GAYA ,APNA SAPNA MONEY MONEY ,boring .can't even match the vibe of the first.ananya same acting in all movie.one time watch can be cringe at many scenes at some seriously take kid for it naaaahhh don't even match the first one level at all i guess same formula failed with bigger cast and bigger budget. It's not fun I don't get the fact like what?? I liked it when there was male and female I was ok till the gay and lesbian part but this has crossed the line. This just shows that there are people who are male people who are female and then there are people who are mentally ill.

Characters were legends but writer doesn't really know how to make people laugh.

Super weak writing, the dialogues were cheap & not at all a mature comedy.

When you have Paresh Rawal, Rajpal Yadav, Ayushman khurana, Asrani, Vijay Raaz, Manoj Joshi and you make this garbage then you seriously don't know how to write.

Please understand that humour doesn't comes from not insulting someone & using a regional slang. This movie has weak punches, on which no one laugh even when used in daily life. Actors were like helpless with a such a weak script.

This was like a scam, I watched this because of these legends in the movie & I recieve comedy puns like Bhabiji ghar par hai. Now i will think 10 times more before watching any hindi movie.

Not as great as Dream girl 1 but still can entertain

Dream Girl 1's biggest USP was Ayushman as Pooja and how he leads to a comedy of misunderstandings which made up for a laugh riot something that Bollywood misses these days.

Four years later comes Dream girl 2, a film with almost the exact same cast but different roles (except a few , like Annu Kapoor's role is the same ). Mind you it's a totally different story but again set in the same region.

Just like the first part , Dream girl 2 is yet another comedy of misunderstandings and yet again we have Ayushman as Pooja but his reason for transforming into Pooja is different this time. The comedy honestly speaking does entertain you but only if you are with a group of people (in a theatre or watching at home with a bunch of your buddies ). If you watch it alone, the comedy will definitely feel force fed and crass-cringe . With audience around, still i felt some comic portions as force fed and not funny . The rest of the comic portions were quite enjoyable, few being absolutely laugh out loud !

I really appreciate Raaj shandaaliya and his dialogues which definitely can make you laugh but this time I felt he ran out of good ones in certain places. The situational comedy and comedy of misunderstandings is handled pretty well in this film and reminds me of the old De Dana Dan days . Personally, i enjoyed and had a great laughter session in the theatre for most parts but quite some parts couldn't make me laugh and I felt few parts were going overboard.

Everyone has done a great job in this film and it's the cast that actually saves the comedy in many parts where easily a cast of lower standards than this would have derailed the comedy and the whole film . Few mentions - one, after a long time Rajpal yadav could make me laugh and two, i wished Asrani had a bigger role , his character almost felt like the beginning of a laughter riot but the film soon takes him off.

Songs are below average. Atleast the first film had two songs with repeat value (especially Ik Mulaqaat) but this film,.none! And not that when you hear the songs in the film you will feel like adding them to your playlist, no, none of the songs have any repeat value.

More Negatives - very poor climax. Wished for a film with those 2000s comedy film like climax where the entire cast would come together and create a hilarious ruckus but no, instead we yet again , just like dream girl 1, get a social message . It's a dated social message heard in every other woke film these days atleast the first film had a message which many didnt address (loneliness of men). And guess what, the film then ends abruptly! It's as if Raaj shandaaliya got tired and decided let's not think more and end it immediately without a proper ending .

All there factors make Dream girl 2 inferior to the first film but that doesn't take away the fact that it still remains quite entertaining and hilarious in many parts .

Disappointed

A proper story and Ananya Pandey's acting were acting in this whole film. I appeal to Bollywood that please don't make Ananya Pandey speak UP accent again, she did it very very bad. Though Ayushman never disappoint us with his acting, but he should work on some good stories. All character were totally fine specially Raju's comedy and acting were good. Makers should have work on story writing before this movie, it is totally waste of entertainment. First half to second half I never found any good scene. Ananya pandey should really work on her acting, she did very bad acting in whole film as always.

Dream Girl 2 review :

For the '80s movie buffs like me, Dream Girl meant Hema Malini. That film celebrated her eternal beauty right till 2019 when Ayushmann Khurrana hijacked the title for his romcom which became a surprise box office hit. Dressed in a drag to elicit laughter quite like what Mehmood Saahab did in the '70s, the new Dream Girl franchise is basically an old wine in new bottle which works due to Ayushmann's perfect comic timing coupled with a stellar cast who deliver big time...

Initially titled Karam Hi Pooja Hai, the makers decided to call it Dream Girl 2 supposedly to cash in on the success of first part and to give them their due, the end product is a perfect follow up to that 2019 movie. In fact, Dream Girl 2 ups the ante on the humour as well as glamour quotient providing you two hours ten minutes of unabashed entertainment. Logic be damned!!After Gadar and OMG 2, this could well be another hit at the box office. Truly, 'achche din' are back for Bollywood and how!!

Cut to the plot, Ayushmann is forced to lead a dual life of Karam and Pooja to settle his father's (Annu Kapoor) debts as well as satisfy the dowry demand of twenty five lakhs to marry his lady love (Ananya Pandey). Next, he multi tasks as a bar dancer for the shady Sona bhai (Vijay Raaz) as well as the coy 'bahu' of Abu Saleem (Paresh Rawal). There is an added 'tadka' of Saleem's elderly sister Jumani (Seema Pahwa), who has the hots for Karam while his pappa Annu Kapoor wishes to make her his wife. Oops!!

Dream Girl 2 is peppered with hilarious one liners and crazy situations which will make you roll with laughter. Khurrana's double date with Vijay Raaz and Seema Pahwa in same restobar is simply hilarious. So is the misunderstanding between Annu Kapoor and Seema Pahwa, which culminates in a lol sequence at Paresh Rawal's home. The screenplay and dialogues are indeed top notch, specially the witty one liners from Shilpa to Suniel Shetty and Sunny Deol to Leone. Laughter guaranteed!!

The performances are expectedly first rate. The veterans - Paresh Rawal, Annu Kapoor, Asrani - are reliably competent in their characters. Seema Pahwa is outstanding as the libidinous Jumani and her scenes with Khurrana and Annu Kapoor bring the house down. On the other hand, Bollywood ki self declared struggler Ananya Pandey is ineffective and unable to conjure any chemistry with Ayushmann Khurrana. In fact, she is hardly noticeable in the movie.

Finally, Dream Girl 2 belongs to Ayushmann Khurrana, who once again delivers a super fine performance. From a MTV Roadie to singer to actor, this man has come a long way and can get in to any character with comfortable ease. Sperm donor ho ya bar dancer!! Dream Girl 2 is yet another feather in his cap. Kudos Mr. Khurrana!!

Comedy is missing. Drama is too much. Acting is decent

It's almost same as dream girl with a bad script, over drama and Ananya Pandey.

Acting - Ayushman Khurana did very good. His acting as Pooja, his dance moves as Pooja will make other leading actress to work harder.

Other actors- Though couple of the side actors has less screen time like Paresh rawal but whatever part they had they did justice. Only actor whose less screen time was a blessing to the audience was Ananya Pandey. Thankyou Dreamgirl 2 team.

Ending - Too much crap. The last emotional song was good, Ayushman's expressions were good. But, since, we have not seen any romantic angle of ayushman & ananya, it was very hard to connect. Looked very fake.

Ananya's expression didn't help at all.

The script could have been structured better. It might have been a better movie, if out of all side angles, 1 might had been cut off to pay better and more attention for others.

Don't watch it guys. Better watch dream girl 1 again!

2hrs 31 min fun. No scope of boredom. Absolute laughter.

When artists like Anu Kapoor, Vijay Raaz , Rajpal Yadav knows how to handle a comedy then it would be easy for the lead artist to carry the movie.

Dream Girl 2 speaks about love. Nothing out of the box kinda feeling but for me it's a total time pass..

Just unloaded the week's pressure and enjoyed the Dream Girl..

Full on entertainment

Dream Girl 2 is a pure entertainment and a good family entertainer movie. 1st half in such a laughter ride that will keep you engaged with the theatre seats. 2nd half doesn't lag the grip and provides you more and more entertainment and the acting is also top notch. Ayushmann delivers one of the best performances of his life. Actors like Paresh Rawal , Rajpal Yadav , Vijay Raaz , do their job very perfectly. Now talking about the negative the writing could have been more better and climax could be more impactful and 1st half fells a bit long but it will not bore you at all. And the songs.... I mean Dream Girl 1 songs were so good but this movie lacks at that point. At last it is a perfect sequel of Dream girl. You can definitely watch it one time with your family, friends, you will not regret at all.

Unrealistic Drama

I felt the movie had a lot of unrealistic drama with too many characters fitted in. The concept in itself seemed weird and materialising women though it was managed towards the end but not in an impactful manner. It had old school drama of rich girl, poor guy and unrealistic efforts to impress the girls father for marriage in which he failed and same drama with no newness. Ananya again in a sweet and simple role nothing challenging to test the skills. I would say if you want to watch a drama filled movie, then you must go otherwise there's nothing much to add to the perspective in this. ......

Unfinished movie?

This must be the worst movie of Ayushman. Bad dialogues, even bad editing. Uneven makeup between takes. Some issue with face CGI as well. It could have been a decent movie had someone planned the scenes properly and edited out unnecessary scenes. They deliberately fed us confusion and thought people would like it. We have seen the same story line a thousand times before. How can the actors even select this kind of script? I never wanted to leave a movie in the middle. I barely heard any laughter in the theatre. Bad story, bas screenplay, bad dialogue, ruined the prequel. It was a well made film, Dream Girl 1.

Once again Director Raj has come up with a sequel of its super hit film Dreamgirl but this time it misses below the mark. First Dreamgirl was a perfect comedy film that entertains you with perfect storyline, best dialogues and character situation comedies. Dreamgirl 2 also has the same charm and this time with more characters and good punch lines but the story is below average as compare to the 1st one.

Even some supporting characters are wasted for just having few scenes and director seriously wasted their comic timing with average dialogues. Ayushman Khurana once again saves the film and carry the movie from start to end is what called perfect acting. Rest of the cast is average and doesn't have much to do as the story doesn't satisfy their characters as the previous one.. Anyway it's a one time watch you'll laugh at some point and get bore at some time but I still gonna say the 1st Dreamgirl is superb as compare to this one....
