If you ever heard anybody talk about how they got hooked on something the very first time they tried it, this is true about Beauty and the Beast. The pilot introduces us to Catherine when she is young and working in a bar - and about to enroll in law school to follow in her fathers footsteps. Tragedy slithers into her life and we are flash forwarded 10 years to present day Catherine who is now a rock hard and super smart special crimes detective. Vincent is connected to Catherine in more ways than we can even imagine, but he is the Beast, experimented upon whilst serving in Afghanistan, and living in hiding. He is also pure at heart and cannot help saving people who come across his path.

Their connection, and attraction, is obvious from the get-go and the tension almost palpable by the end of this first episode.

Apart from the love story, which is more or less the only left over from the original fairytale, the episode features lots of action, snappy dialog, amazing fight scenes and a good all round introduction to the main characters and their friends.

The pilot is well executed, acted and directed and leaves you wanting a lot more. There's an obvious comfort and easy between the actors which makes the show a real pleasure to watch. Also the music is great (Florence and the machine - Never let me go) and the costumes/design is amazing.
