I waited and waited......
lorrgeno20 May 2023
I'm still waiting...not really but I'll never get that time back. This was awful and I'm not that picky about my horror. I'm a big fan of found footage, this boring mess should have stayed lost.

I tend to believe so many movies have their rating pushed up by family, friends or their cousin who invested their life saving in dreck like this.

I was really hoping for some creepy supernatural scares but alas...I would recommend that no one anyone waste their time on this one...my three star rating was being extremely generous...it really, in my humble opinion, deserved far less.

Well back to searching for the next Good creepy horror.

Could have it been better?
wigglytj28 May 2023
Well, if you've seen it, congrats to you! You either enjoyed it or wondered who you need to talk to about getting that time back for watching it. I am on the fence, so I am not thrilled, but didn't hate it either. It won't watch it a second time, but I won't say I wasted my time because I found it interesting at first. My real gripe is that I was invested in the Figure in the beginning and it did delve further. I have another one at the end, but for the sake of spoiling it, I won't mention it. I'll say, there is some over-acting. The effects were meh, but get an A for effort.

Not much for substance and there are many better mockumentary films out there, but I have seen much much worse mockumentaries. 5/10 maybe C grade movie.

Another dreadful mockumentary
barry-6511419 May 2023
Full of contradictory dialog and actions while severely lacking in any interesting actions or events. The event being investigated takes place on the edge of private property, bordering a busy public road just before sunset every day. So the investigator waits 3 weeks (21 sunsets not investigated) to secure permission from the property owners to spend one entire night (long after the event already happened somewhere off camera), deep in the woods (far from the "ghost walker"). WTH? After that stupid setup it doesn't get any better. The "wait for it moment" is the ending. I mean for the entire thing to be over. I give it 1 star above the bottom because he didn't have a wildly swinging camera POV like most mockumentaries. So you will not get motion sickness while being bored.

Faking it.
zkgmtbmm31 May 2023
The fact that the figure stopped moving and was visibly standing still when it reached the end of its walk. It's particularly visible when he shows the clip that he "ran through " some unnamed software.

When you see the wood's interior, it's really easy to see why the figure was able to move so fluidly. Those woods are very open.

The tent pitching scene is fairly entertaining, being in fast forward.

It's a little, "Blair Witchy", only on a lower budget.

There's even an actor in the credits for the, "figure walking".

It looked fake and I'm calling it as listed incorrectly as, "Documentary".

I mentioned a couple of things in the movie, but I wouldn't call them spoilers.

Bit boring for me.

Fake AF
bushwackerblaster1 June 2023
Warning: Spoilers
Very Disappointed. If you are looking to see a true documentary film then this is not for you. I can't believe this film is labeled as a documentary when clearly it is fictional. I wish there would be transparency. At least, before the film begins, it should advise viewers it is not a true documentary film. It is soo fake that the so called in person interviews towards the end of the film, are actors with horrible acting trying to portray real people. For example, the police officer's interview was extremely cheesy. His uniform is sloppy. He has no name tag on his shirt, his badge sits on his uniform shirt pocket, his radio microphone is crappy and of cheap quality, and he is not wearing a bullet proof vest. His demeanor is nothing close to a police officer's either. Anyways, I can go on and on about this film especially with the filmmaker's choice of camera positions, lighting, etc. You be the judge and watch it for yourself. As for me, I was looking to see a really cool legitimate documentary film with a filmmaker's view on the subject who spent time with actual witnesses, presenting the true history of the area subject in detail, and providing true actual footage from other point of views, etc. However, this was not true and I felt as if I was robbed of that. Well, enjoy.😉👎🏻

I have no idea what to think of this
Nikki-D37 June 2023
I had 0 idea what to expect. I wasn't thoroughly disappointed as I have been with some other movies with big names in them but I wasn't impressed either. The interviews at the end made it worse in my opinion. I don't know. It resonates in some ways with ACTUAL sites like that but this was not a "Documentary" and shouldn't be allowed in that category because he simply read some books or whatever is pushing it to be called as such. The bar should be a lot higher or nothing at all. I'm realizing as I'm writing this and going through it in my head how bad it was. It's a waste of time. Don't bother unless you're actively trying to scare your 3yr old child.

Don't waste your time on stupid mockumentaries like this!
ferengiprophet23 May 2023
This FICTIONAL movie just goes to show that if you've got $50 spare bucks in your pocket, you too can make a lousy movie. Just label it as a "documentary", and you might even get it picked up by a streaming service. Seriously, it's an hour and twenty minutes of your life youll never get back. The script is nonexistent (It's essentially just a poorly made YouTube vlog.). The cinematography is rank amateur quality, with several long sequences filmed completely out of focus and/or grossly overexposed. But the show does have one redeeming quality; the CGI face in the flash during the end sequence is hilarious! It's at around 14:07 from the end of the movie (though it may take a few tries to get a still-frame of it, keep trying!).

Very little happens
zyokell1 March 2024
I urge anyone reading the reviews here to look at how many people found them helpful or not, because some of these reviews are glowing, or at least.. nicer than is deserved, but have few people agreeing. This movie was an OK attempt at indie horror that I don't quite wish I hadn't bothered with, but I'm someone who enjoys low budget horror with single writers who could've used editing help. The fact that this pretended for a while to be a documentary, vs a minimal-budget horror film, doesn't win it any points in my book. Watch it if bored and curious about local urban legends, but don't expect any real climax or resolution.

How did thid get beyond YouTube?
djburnham20 July 2023
Warning: Spoilers
This is something one would expect to see on YouTube, not on a streaming service. If it is a mockumentary, it is slow, and poorly done.

Not impressed.

If it is intended to be a real, it is not believable to me.

He goes out to film what is reported to be paranormal for just one night, and rather than staying up to film he goes to bed and expected to sleep.

If he is a paranormal investigator, or filmmaker he is not very dedicated.

Yeah and some of the interviewers are really really bad actors.

I am sure this is a hoax being portrayed as a real paranormal situation.

I suggest that you dont waste your time watching it.

Slow build and BOOM!
bknightva15 March 2023
I just finished watching this last night while lying in bed trying to fall asleep (big mistake). I'm a huge the paranormal, cryptids and aliens, so this was right up my alley. I'm also not a fan of the Blair Witch style movies but this one managed to keep my attention. After building the backstory, the movie picks up with the investigator spending the night alone at the location site. Here's where the movie gets interesting in my opinion. Throughout the night you can feel something building, but you just can't put your finger on what's about to happen then BOOM! I can't wait to see what's next.

PSA: Do Not Camp Alone
jdbrucker19 March 2023
I am a huge fan of mocumentary-style films and this one was a decent effort and turned out well. I love the lore behind the story, which for me, was the hook. The build up does take some time to get to, so I feel one needs to enjoy slow-paced films before heading into it. But honestly, it pays off in the end. Sure, it isn't some action packed, in-your-face horror film but the core elements of an interesting story exist. I do wish there was a bit more, to give it that dread I was wanting but it's an honest effort! I think if the director continues down the line, in this style of filmmaking, he can really perfect it.

Hot Flash of a Film
photographygray31 March 2023
Borderline paranormal? Absolutely! Anyone who has ventured alone in the night shadows of the eastern woodlands, where local legends and folktales have simmered over the centuries, will be curious as to what this film may allude to.

Intriguing that we already have rumor's of a mysterious sighting along a country road with random reports of what appears to be a human-like figure, yet not quit recognizable.

Filmmaker Bill Howard sets up camp overnight to possibly film and document what could be just another folktale or something that may have led to such a story to begin with. What comes to mind are the NC legends of the Brown Mountain Lights, Devil's Tramping Ground, Sleepy Hollow and the locally known Railroad Lantern Light that is seen occasionally along the dark railroad tracks near Black Creek NC.

Something Walks in the Woods may catch you by surprise literally. Howard is brave enough to take very sophisticated camera equipment into the woods to capture or record a possible experience some of us may or may not have stumbled upon. Howard brings us along for this fascinating ride, we want to know what's out there, we want to know if it's real.

some great moments, but you have to wait for them
JustinBrownFilms14 March 2023
I like the premise behind this film and the erieness that encompases it. It has a very raw vibe and so with that said you must prepare to spend a good deal of time waiting for things to happen. I enjoyed the fact that the opening took you right into things and we got a glimpse of "something walking in the woods". I secretly wanted to see more of it. I personally feel there are sections that linger a bit much, and some of the performances near the end fell just a tad flat, but that's just me. The camping scenes felt very real to me and when stuff started to unfold, I felt in the moment the most. All in all it was a fun watch with some very creepy and original moments!

Real.
halloween-764696 June 2023
Bill doesn't exactly give the location of where this takes place. If you have lived here in this state most of your life then you've heard of this urban legend. Bill's film keeps you on the edge especially with the absence of any background music. It's straight up raw documentary without the fancy and cheesy special effects like 90% of all the other documentaries that claim to be real. This film is in my opinion great. Anyone who watches the paranormal channel on TV there is never any real proof on any of the shows and most of it can be debunked. I hope Bill continues to pursue his film career in this area..

Slow Creepy Burn (not a campfire pun)
tupacshalom15 March 2023
The creepiness doesn't jump out, but slowly builds up to a satisfying ending in a well fleshed out folktale from the woods of North Carolina. Patient viewers will be rewarded, but it takes some time to get there. Don't expect many jump scares or gore. This isn't a slasher. The film is framed by realism, and even with it's paranormal plot, it remains realistic. This is low-budget, but it feels like a real documentary (we had to look up whether there was any truth to the lore). Overall great performance by writer/director/star Bill Howard. Given that it is a one-man show, he truly carries the film.

A Ghost Story that Delivers!
brianevans-0128925 March 2023
I was sucked in instantly. Not your average ghost story, this movie gave me chills the moment I saw that thing. Something Walks in the Woods gives you the real emotion attached with seeing the unknown and trying to maintain composure and objectivity.

Things just get more tense as the movie takes you on a ride fueled by the darkness and the unexplained.

Bill Howard brilliantly brings the researcher's perspectives to the story as it leads him closer to the terrifying truth. Try not to watch this one when you're alone.

Don't miss this heart racing movie. It delivers!

Eerie Found Footage Horror
skinnerramone14 March 2023
Just watched "Something Walks in the Woods", an indie horror found footage mockumentary. This is a solid effort by William Howard, it's a mostly one man show that succeeds in setting a creepy tone as Howard spends a night in the woods in the hopes of catching a glimpse of a local ghost legend. Fans of Blair Witch style fan footage movies will appreciate this one, it'll definitely make you think twice the next time you plan on camping in a tent. Now I really can't wait to see Howard's next project, The Great Dismal, a Bigfoot indie horror movie. If you're into ghosts, cryptids, and other similar legends, Howard is your man! I'll be watching for his future projects with interest.

Worth the watch
bryanenc14 March 2023
Warning: Spoilers
I watched Something Walks in the Woods and I felt like I did not waste my time at all. The story started in as a documentary with research and possible explanations of the unexplainable. Bill Howard was able to bring in the mystery of the story from the beginning. I was defiantly able to relate to the local folklore as I had grown up hearing similar things. I did a few outings as a teen to investigate some for myself. So after doing his own research, what does Bill do? He spends the night by himself in the woods of "ground zero" for Something Walks in the Woods. At this point I was a captive audience and Bill delivered what I came to watch.

Real Shivers from Bill Howard !!
monsterman195414 March 2023
" Something Walks In The Woods " - how many times have I actually thought that in my head ??

As a young kid , the woods behind my house in Hamilton , Ohio scared the H--L out of me , with windy , whispering voices and screams in the night !!

Bill Howard's adaption and original screenplay brought back ALL the CREEPINESS of those times !

Based on a local " urban legend " , this is truly an adventure into the macabre , complete with the final scenes of terror and facing the spirit itself .

And being able to access the authentic site sheds light upon the mysterious and terror of that night Bill tries to survive the explosion of fear unleashed upon him .

I would rate this film possibly Bill Howard's BEST in his series of " the unusual " .

If you seek terror , mystery and creepiness ( all in one ! ) I HIGHLY RECOMMEND you see "SOMETHING WALKS IN THE WOODS " !!

Wait for it....
sandysink16 March 2023
This isn't a type of movie I would normally watch. I like the Blair Witch Project and thought I would give it a chance. I'm so glad I did. I was on the edge of my chair while watching it. A slow build up but you can feel it's not going to disappoint. When it's over it doesn't feel like it was over an hour long. Time goes by fast while keeping your attention. Even if you aren't into documentaries/mockentaries, give this one a chance. You won't be sorry. This film delivers the suspense you expect from Bill Howard. I can't wait to see his next project called Dismal. My new favorite indie director.

A Man VS Wild meets Found Footage
laurarodriguez-6805015 March 2023
This movie is shot found footage/documentary/mockumentary style. You don't get the shaky camera feel of found footage, which is good because I hear it makes people feel ill. It is a well thought out story which almost feels real. The run time is just over one hour and twenty minutes but does not feel long at all. I had to look up the lord behind this story to see how true any of this was. It's a slow burn type of movie with a nice build up towards the end. The deputy did a fantastic job. He looks very "legit." All in all if you like this genre of film you will enjoy this one. Cannot wait to see if there is a sequel.

Something Wins an Award in the Woods!
tskaney30 March 2023
I think this indie film should win an award. There is good pacing and does a better job of appearing real and genuine than its progenitor films like Blair Witch. The story within the story is captivating and keeps you glued to find out more. I am always a big fan of sound design and there was a key role for it in this film that helped build suspense and a little bit of the horror of the unseen. It does a good job of being a slow burn while traveling on bad road into the woods of eeriness. Impressive is this accomplishment of indie film and hope to see it go far with more like it from the maker.

Give it a chance more to come
eagirardi10 August 2023
This movie is a slow burn for sure but well worth it, as well as from what I hear going to be several films in a series... this movie isn't about "in your face horror". But story building and creepiness... we personally love all types of horror from gore fests to all types of FF movies, and the simplicity of this movie won us over.

There is obviously a growing industry of low budget horror and there is some great movies and some not so great... but it's all personal and up to each individual who watches.... Remember Blair Witch was both loved and hated but don't forget it spawned a new movement in horror and now I think we are seeing the tides turn again.... In my opinion give as much as you can a chance you never know what will strike a cord with you.
