Unbelievable is right!
planktonrules27 July 2021
A few years ago, I was at a Star Trek convention in Las Vegas and saw that there was a free screening of "Unbelievable!!!!!" in a nearby hotel. I didn't have a lot of interest in seeing it but was convinced by one of the producers to see it when he learned I was working for a website that specialized in film reviews. I absolutely hated it...and later the same guy begged me NOT to post my review so I didn't. Years have passed and I notice that the film was finally released and I may as well post my impressions of the film to IMBD...mostly to warn you!

Before I get to this, I should note that I briefly talked to one of the actors who was in the film, Tim Russ. At first he couldn't immediately remember being in the movie but when he DID remember, he rolled his eyes and said something rather derogatory about it.... I can't remember exactly what but it was clear he regretted appearing in the film. I could understand why!

The film stars a lot of B and C-list actors...many of which used to appear on various Star Trek shows. Additionally, Snoop Dog, Gilbert Gottfried and a few others were in the picture. While I love Star Trek.... I just can't pretend that the film was good or that it was funny. I am a fan...but NOT one who blindly enjoys everything Trek related.

The story is dopey. A crazy humanoid plant (Gilbert Gottfried) is angry at the human race and he (it?) is somehow turning all the people of the Earth...and Moon...into plants. So, it's up to a team of incompetents to somehow save the day.

As I mentioned above, the film is cheap and, I might add, cheesy. The special effects are deliberately terrible, the main character (obviously modeled after William Shatner) is a marionette much like the ones seen in Team America: World Police and it's chock full of very bad jokes and silliness. But, having seen this at the recent Star Trek mega-convention in Las Vegas, I also know that most of the folks at the convention will love the film because it makes many allusions to Star Trek and they'll get to see many of their favorite stars in action. As for everyone else, unless you love deliberately bad films (such as "The Toxic Avenger"), stay clear as many of the jokes won't make as much sense and you won't have the same nostalgic connection with most of the cast. Overall, a very hard film to rate...and I think I almost sort of liked it despite its many, many deficiencies....but I'd have to be drunk to want to see it again.

NOTE: A lot of super high scores and reviews that were one or two sentences in length were all made about the same time for this bad film. While I might be wrong, usually this means the filmmakers are trying to do damage control and pump up a bad film's ratings. I've seen it several times...particularly with small independent films. I wish IMDB would consider removing them, as they simply don't reflect the quality of the film AND are so short they're not even reviews. For shame.

Bad.
DrProfessor17 August 2020
This is a bad film. Some inside jokes which are clever, but it's a ridiculous film. It's interesting seeing Manu Intiraymi (who plays Icheb in ST:V), but makes you wonder why no one cast him as Icheb in Picard. Overall it's terrible, and it's clearly meant to be that way. What's disturbing though, is IMDBs inability to stop fake reviews from users that are clearly promoting. A ten star rating for this film would be appropriate, if it was 10/1000.

Terrible - do not waste your time or money
daveroatley25 October 2020
I had high hopes, having waited years for this. But it's awful. The humor is very simple. "Sophomoric", if the sophomores were actually 6-grade boys.

Warning: Spoilers
I didn't get it. I wanted to like it, it looked like it'd be funny. I'm a big Star Trek fan. It was great to see the actors from all of the different versions of Star Trek. I LOVED watching "Chekov" run over "Kirk" with the fire truck. "Uhura" using the force to choke someone. That had me doubled over laughing.

I honestly feel like the entire movie was a set up for the outtakes that they showed at the end. Without the movie, the outtakes wouldn't make any sense.

There were a few funny parts, but it just seemed like it was written by different people and "shoe-horned" together to make a movie.

One thing I did learn, Snoop Dog is a HUGE Star Trek fan.

I gotta wonder, why did these, relatively speaking, big deal actors do this? With a budget of 4 million, I can't imagine they got paid much, if at all. Were they bored? Did they just want to do something else? Did they just want to be silly? It explains why it took 4 years to get this out. Maybe we have COVID to thank for this? They didn't have anything ELSE to do, so they did this?

Where Did the $3.75 Mil Go?
arfdawg-18 August 2020
If this movie's budget was nearly 4 million bucks to make, I have one question: where did it go?

This is sort of a cross between druggie movies and Airplane-like parodies. Only it sucks.

Snoop Dog is higher than a kite and walks through his pathetic role.

DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME

One question - WHY?

Answer - Someone wanted a pay cheque and could care less what they had to do for it.

So bad it's just bad.
jellys-721-18455416 August 2020
When people say, "So bad it's good", this usually implies a lack of self awareness or skills on the part of the movie maker. Despite its flaws, you appreciate the effort or just laugh at the shear failure of the movie.

Here, with Unbelievable, we simply have a bad movie. There is clearly no effort to make an entertaining film. The cinematography is lifeless and cheap sets are frequently hidden by close cropped shots. The script has no spark and less humour, it's criminal to even mention Airplane in comparison. The level of parody here makes the likes of Meet the Spartans seem oscar worthy. You're pretty much left with a tired series of "naughty/lewd" (dead on arrival) jokes that have no set up and are limited by PG-13 restrictions. Beavis and Butthead did it better and with surprisingly infinitely more class.

So what are you left with? A movie where you'll just spend the entire runtime wondering why so many Sci-Fi (and specifically Star Trek) actors signed up to be in this film. Given the budget it's clearly not a massive paycheck although I guess it's a bit more than they'd get via Cameo.

You'll be better off just cruising IMDB and looking at their profiles. It'll be a lot quicker, cost you nothing and it's likely to be funnier.

Did Snoop Dog get so high he thought doing a film written by a 10 year old would be funny?

Unwatchable trash even for Trekkers
tycannah21 August 2020
Meant to be a comedy but without the humour. I can only surmise that this is the result of the legalisation of weed in America. I am shocked that anybody would put their name on this pile. Made with a $5 budget. William Shatner puts in a wooden performance. I blame it on Trump and the coronavirus. Re-evaluating my Star Trek membership and moving to Star Wars..... who am i kidding, Disney have stuffed that up. Now, i need to clean my eyeballs with a scourer.

Trash: The motion picture
neuntoeter5 December 2020
To boldly trash where no trash has trashed before! Normal level trash such as "Plan 9 from outer space" is Ingmar Bergman quality compared to this. Snoop Dogs participation is actually a hint you'll have to first move to a place where smoking cannabis is legal, get baked and then watch this in a company of your friends. May the Lords of Kobol have mercy on you if you ever decide to watch this... uh... movie.

"So bad it's brilliant"
pidstr10 August 2020
You'll either get the gag, or wonder why you wasted your time. So many tropes, so many movies ripped off, about the only shows not given a serve are Quark (from the '70's kids), B5, HHGTTG, The 100 and Red Dwarf. Although the script reads like one of Dave Lister's post curry and beer nightmares, it's really just the actors throwing shade at how too many franchises take themselves way too seriously. If you know what HHGTTG stands for, or are a Red Dwarf fan, you'll probably enjoy this, if you're only here for Ms Masterson, go watch R.U.R. if you haven't already. If you want 'serious' SciFi, go watch The Expanse. If you want to see how the actors from your favorite shows let their hair down in the gag reels, this is all those reels blended together.

Illogical
chriswalsh-855892 October 2020
Absolutely shocking. I can only assume that this was a way of the actors stopping other people asking them to cameo in their films.

Am I missing something?
natalieruffatto16 August 2020
Good grief this is a horrible movie, yet we couldn't stop watching it. I am pretty sure we have hit the bottom of the pandemic viewing options available. Costumes remind me of a David Lee Roth music video, props include some random animals, a gigantic weed farm, and some weird random garage sale cast offs. Oh, and a bubble machine. I think you're supposed to be high af when you embark on this cinematic tragedy.

Filmmakers spamming 10 star ratings
throwawaycoins14 September 2020
As of 9/3/20 this film had a 4.1 rating with 500 votes. It now has a 6.2 rating with 800 votes, with ALL OF THEM BEING FROM THE USA IN THE PAST FEW DAYS. Clearly the filmmakers are trying to use money to cover up the bomb this movie is, especially considering all the accounts are new and have no other reviews (the ones mentioning Emily Stanton are probably the filmmakers themselves). How come there's so many positive ratings but most of the written reviews are negative? Must be nice to have that kind of money right now to pay for positive reviews.

Made Me Vomit
horicesesdyk9 August 2020
I thought this was another movie, and within 45 seconds of accidentally watching it I threw up. No joke, it's the creepiest, worst thing ever made. It's absolutely sickening, and there's nothing gross or graphic about it, it's just that bad.

This is one of the worst things I've ever seen
sexbadong13 March 2022
This entire film is baffling. The best interpretation I could make of it is that its creator is just a rich old dude who loves going to Star Trek and other science fiction conventions, and he wanted to make a spoof movie. Over the course of half a decade or so, he waved money in front of as many Star Trek actors as he could, along with a couple of other celebrities he liked such as Michael Madsen and Snoop Dogg, and got each of them to spend an hour or two filming bit parts.

He had a very vague plot idea about the world being taken over by plants, but still didn't manage to connect most scenes together. I think I laughed twice but spent the rest of the movie just wondering what the hell was going on. The most entertainment you can get out of this movie is looking for all the Star Trek actors and figuring out how desperate each of them must have been to accept this gig.

This movie is interrupted by a commercial for Snoop Dogg's brand of bongs. However, everything about this movie tells me that its creator has never done any drugs in his life and just naturally has no clue.

What in the Alpha Quadrant was THAT?!
cassiecole-942235 June 2022
I rarely pull the plug on a movie, yet that's what I found myself doing...after a mere 12 minutes. And that's exactly what the filmmakers should have done too on this steaming pile-pull the plug. Yikes!

A god damn awful movie that is perfect in every way!
mcjwood21 December 2022
This movie is just awful, but it has its place.

It kinda feels like all the actors got together at comic con, got high, wrote a script and filmed it during a week long bender and have all been fighting it ever being released and that's why it was delayed 🤣

The jokes are cheap, bottom of the barrel but tailored to trekkies and stoners

If you're looking for the Spaceballs / Team America of Star Trek, this ain't it.. if you're looking to smoke whatever snoops known for and laugh at a terrible film, this film couldn't be more perfect.

It's low quality, the jokes are cheap but I'm glad this film was made and I can't wait to show my friends the greatest worst movie I've ever seen.

Not bad but hoped for better
theredhairedcrow7 May 2021
Utterly silly "seriousness" rather overlong but still fun at times. With the long list of Star Trek alumnae more forgiving fans may call it a "must see". I think it even deserves a re-watch if you make it through the first time, just to see if you missed anyone. It's likely the final appearance of Michelle Nichols, and some of our favorite Trek and sci-fi actors are getting up there in years so it's nice to see them though you can wish it were a better film. Not terribly bad, I had hoped for better, and it was only the caliber of some of the actors that made it was good as it was.

Damn Funny
sygerald-3800017 August 2020
It's unadulterated silliness and fun, very charming & original. With a Captain Kirk marionette and Snoop Dog, it is definitely a different kind of Trek. And if you stay till the end, the single After Today by Emily Stanton is a really lovely piece. Overall I like the music it's brilliant. Of course I'd wish they had brought in Shatner but you know, the marionette was a damn good idea. This isn't your Star Wars stuff but for an Indie parody film, it's a excellent production.

Sethaustin3326 September 2020
...A completely ridiculous over the top parody that even makes a joke about how it just keeps going...and going. One of those intentionally "bad" films that will no doubt gain cult status in the future. I mean, snoop dogg? Nichelle Nicholls? It's got everything.
