THE GUARDIAN is another cheap 'martial world' fable from Taiwan. A large tableau of characters take part in a storyline involving a band of renegade outlaws, the justice system, and some sympathetic jailers. It's mostly shot in the Taiwanese countryside, and the plot is of note as it features some cheesy magical elements portrayed via camera tricks and the like. The last half an hour in particular has a ghost in a lake and characters who can appear and disappear at will. It's very poorly shot, unfortunately, and not at all enjoyable.
