Gerard Butler and Den of Thieves director Christian Gudegast could head to the Big Apple as Butler is in talks to join the filmmaker for the comedic action-thriller Empire State. The upcoming project finds Butler and Gudegast re-teaming after joining forces for 2018’s Den of Thieves, Plane, and London Has Fallen.
According to Deadline‘s exclusive report, Empire State focuses on what happens when “the Empire State Building is attacked by a military contractor hellbent on revenge. S. Craig Zahler of Bone Tomahawk fame co-wrote the script with Brian Tucker (Secret Invasion).

Bill Murray has joined the already-stacked cast of director Dito Montiel’s upcoming crime comedy Riff Raff. More details below.
Dito Montiel’s crime comedy Riff Raff has set up quite a cast. Jennifer Coolidge, Ed Harris, Gabrielle Union, Lewis Pullman, Emanuela Postacchini, Miles J Harvey and Pete Davidson are all set to appear, and the film has just added another star to its ranks.
Bill Murray, who was just seen in Ghostbusters: The Frozen Empire, will also appear in Riff Raff, Variety reports.
According to the same article, Riff Raff – not to be confused with the 1991 Ken Loach film of the same name – follows a former criminal, whose ordinary life is turned upside down when his family shows up for a “long-awaited reckoning”. John Pollono, whose work takes in Grey’s Anatomy, Masters Of Sex, and the 2021 indie comedy Small Engine Repair, has written the script.

After almost three absurdly long years, “Stranger Things” Season 4 is just around the corner. A tentpole series for Netflix — at a whopping production cost of reportedly 30 million per episode — the fan-favorite sci-fi show that launched its young adult cast, led by Millie Bobby Brown and Finn Wolfhard, into superstardom will be dropping new episodes May 27.
And, according to the Emmy-winning series’ executive producer Shawn Levy, it’s going to be “harrowing,” “cinematic” and “epic.” He told TheWrap in a recent interview, “This is so much more story and runtime than ever before, not by a little. By a lot.”
The last month of spring will also see the return of reality series titles like “The Circle” — a social media-driven competition series where players catfish, befriend and flirt with each other with the aim of winning a grand cash prize — and “Bling Empire” — which centers on a group of uber-wealthy Asian American friends in Beverly Hills.

As the undisputed king of streaming (for now at least), Netflix has enjoyed the presence of some major blockbusters. Now, with its list of new releases for May 2022, Netflix is bringing back one of its biggest ever hits.
Stranger Things season 4 “volume one” is set to premiere on May 27. It’s been a long wait for new episodes of this ’80s-tinged sci-fi/horror series and based on the trailers, the wait will have been well worth it. In this go-around, the kids of Hawkins (now high schoolers) will have to contend with the Upside Down once again to go along with the horrors of the Creel House.
While Stranger Things is the biggest Netflix original this month, it’s far from the only one. Mike Myers’ latest series The Pentaverate premieres on May 5 (fittingly: 5/5). Meanwhile The Lincoln Lawyer is set to arrive on May 13 followed by Love, Death & Robots Volume...

Dwayne Johnson became the biggest, most marketable and highest-paid star in the industry by relying entirely on the strength of his personal brand, which has worked wonders for him over the last two decades. Not all of his movies are what you would call classics, but they tend to do solid business at the box office despite many of them being completely indistinguishable from each other.
If you were asked to name one Dwayne Johnson film where he played a character in a beige shirt who was caught in a race against time to avoid a catastrophic event while forced to battle various CGI critters, would you choose Race to Witch Mountain, Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle, sequel The Next Level, Journey 2: The Mysterious Island or Rampage?

(Updated with judge’s ruling) About a month before Harvey Weinstein’s rape trial is set to begin, the much-accused producer’s latest defense team and the Manhattan District Attorney got support from a judge, who closed a pivotal hearing Friday to the public and the press.
New York Supreme Court Justice James Burke rejected appeals from press organizations — a roster of major New York and national outlets — who insisted that the public’s right to follow the case supersedes privacy or fair-trial concerns.
Allowing the hearing to be open to press, with unsealed records circulating, “would perversely have the effect of broadcasting to the jury pool allegations that may never be admissible at trial,” Burke said. There was “no reasonable alternative” to closing the courtroom exists that would ensure a fair trial for Weinstein, he added.

Netflix probably thought they made a swift surgical move cutting Marvel’s The Punisher and Jessica Jones this week, but Eminem made it very clear tonight he can take a slice out of the streamer in retaliation.
The Oscar winning hip hop artist took to social media late Wednesday to loudly protest the February 18 cancellation of the bloody Jon Bernthal led vigilante series:
Dear @Netflix,
Regarding Your Cancellation Of The Punisher, You Are Blowing It!!
Sincerely,
Marshall

Along with the early retirement of the Krysten Ritter starring Jones, the not all-together unexpected end of the saga of the ruthless Frank Castle by Netflix one month after its second season launched marks the termination of the once burgeoning business partnership between the Disney-owned superhero giant and the streamer that originated to such fanfare in 2013.

Showtime has ordered pilot “Queen Fur” from executive producer Eileen Myers.
Produced by Showtime and Sony Pictures Television, “Queen Fur” is set in a small town in Central Florida where beauty pageants, gun culture, Cuban revolutionaries and Southern hospitality co-exist and collide. Over a decade ago, Dito Montiel made a well received indie movie, “A Guide To Recognizing Your Saints,” but ever since has largely been failing upwards. A string of movies have followed, that find him working with decent names (Dwayne Johnson, Shia Labeouf, Kate Mara, Al Pacino, Robin Williams, Juliette Binoche) but all them have failed critically or commercially or both (“The Son Of No One,” “Empire State,” “Boulevard,” “Man Down“).

A lot of us have seen this famous photo titled Lunch Atop a Skyscraper once or twice in history books and we’ve all been led to believe it had something to do with the construction of the Empire State Building. First, it didn’t. This picture was taken at Rockefeller Center in Midtown. Plus, the whole thing was staged. Guys didn’t eat lunch like this that often no matter what history might tell you. If you look even with just a glance there are no safety harnesses, no ropes, no anything that could catch these guys if they fell except each

[Editor’s Note: The following contains spoilers from “The Mindy Project” series finale, “It Had to Be You.”]
“The Mindy Project” came to an end on Tuesday with its series finale, and every major character finds love or fulfillment in some form. Everything comes full circle with Dr. Mindy Lahiri (creator and star Mindy Kaling) fleeing from a wedding on a bicycle while wearing a sequined dress. But what a difference six seasons and countless boyfriends make. In the pilot, Mindy’s bike escape is sparked by going on a drunken rant at her ex’s wedding. In the finale, she’s peddling away from her good friend’s wedding into the arms of the man she loves.
Over the course of five years and two networks, Kaling refined her romantic comedy style, which ranged from irreverent and goofy to idealistic and contemplative. It hasn’t always been the most consistent, though, and season-to-season has ranged wildly in tone and execution. This was partially due to the network switch,...

Many state and local governments aim to expand business and jobs by offering major tax breaks to companies such as Amazon. But as John Oliver detailed on Sunday's Last Week Tonight, these incentives are ineffective at job creation – and those millions (or, in some cases, billions) – of dollars could go toward more critical institutions like schools and hospitals.
For example, New York's business incentive program, StartUpNY, offers zero property, corporate, business or income tax for a full decade. "I believe that sound you just heard is Donald Trump getting an erection,...

Here’s the thing: If you set out to create a cohesive universe of characters and stories across film and television, audiences are going to question inconsistencies. It’s a very exciting thing to watch a vast and detailed creative endeavour unfold and expand before our very eyes, but such projects invite scrutiny, and scrutiny – more often than not – highlights bizarre omissions. This is why, when the co-executive producers of Marvel TV, Jeph Loeb and Jim Chory, recently accepted an award from the National Broadcaster’s Association, they were questioned about the notable absence of the Avengers Tower in their many TV series.
The award they were accepting was a ‘Created In New York’ award, intended to celebrate work that’s closely interwoven with the iconic city. Loeb and Chory spent time discussing with Inverse the importance of the setting in terms of the history of Stan Lee and Marvel,...
