Total Blackout, the Syfy game show that challenges its contestants to complete fearsome tasks in complete darkness, returns tonight for the final six episodes of its second season.
It’s like Fear Factor – but in the dark. Challenges include walking across a plank without the benefit of actually seeing the plank (or how far above the floor it really is), crawling through tunnels filled with unidentified objects, and guessing the weight of objects and/or people (from a large snake to a sumo wrestler) just by touch. But the highlight of Total Blackout episodes tends to be the hilarity-producing challenge...

Monday's (June 3) episode of "Katie" centers around former child stars, so host Katie Couric asks them to weigh in on troubled starlet Amanda Bynes, who began acting at the age of seven. Jaleel White, best known as Steve Urkel from "Family Matters," has a lot to say about Bynes, having worked with the actress on the 2002 comedy "Big Fat Liar."
"I wish I could take it easy on her," Jaleel says of Amanda. "But sometimes some of the things that comes out of her mouth -- she calls a lot of people ugly; Jay-z and Rihanna, and I'm just like -- I don't know. It comes from a very interesting spiritual place. All I can really do is pray for her, to be quite honest."
Couric then points out the obvious. "This is clearly a young woman who's in trouble, Jaleel, right," she asks. And the actor gives a pretty direct answer.

It’s true; no matter what certain networks may claim about their “winter finales,” winter doesn’t actually start until December 21, and isn’t over until March 20. Syfy, at least, understands this, and has announced their appropriately-titled winter schedule accordingly.
Happily this means that, starting on Monday, January 14, 2013, we will have some great television to get us through the cold months, including the return of Being Human and Lost Girl, and the premiere of Continuum, and later in the week, the return of Ghost Hunters and Face Off.
Here’s the schedule of premieres, along with series synopses:
Syfy’S 2013 Winter Programming Highlighted By Series Premieres Of Ghost Mine, Robot Combat League, Stranded And Continuum Season Returns Of Hits Being Human, Face Off, Total Blackout, Ghost Hunters, Lost Girl, Haunted Collector And Final Season Of Merlin

Former "Family Matters" star Jaleel White dropped by the fourth hour of "Today" to talk to Kathie Lee and Hoda about "Total Blackout," the recently-renewed game show he hosts on Syfy. “Total Blackout” contestants can win $5,000 by answering for correctly guessing things like a sumo wrestler's weight -- in complete and total darkness. The show enjoyed international success before being brought to America earlier this year.
White said that while the size of the prize may seem modest, it's a bounty in today's trying economic times. "You would be surprised, in these times ... they're talking to each other like, 'Baby, look, we gotta get the air conditioning fixed, let's do this.'"
White told Yahoo! that the originality, and laughs, come from watching people freak out in the darkness. "A lot of people are immediately going to say, 'Oh, it's just 'Fear Factor' in the dark.' But it's not that.

Technically, Syfy‘s 31 Days of Halloween celebration started on Monday, but it really gets going tonight with the broadcast premiere of a special 90-minute episode of Paranormal Witness, “The Abduction.” Based on the 1975 UFO abduction case in Arizona, this docudrama will have you glued to your viewing device. It is astoundingly good.
At the other end of the month we’ll get to vote on the Face Off winner. In between will be episodes of Ghost Hunters and Syfy Original Movies and of course, the very excellent Haven.

If it seemed Jaleel White was under the radar for a while, he certainly is making up for it this spring.
The former Steve Urkel of "Family Matters" has been most visible as a contestant on Season 14 of ABC's "Dancing With the Stars," but he also made a return appearance on USA Network's "Psych" recently. Now he turns game show host: White presides over the aptly titled Syfy series "Total Blackout," premiering Wednesday, April 25.
"Again, it's stepping outside my comfort zone," White tells Zap2it of the contest that puts players in complete darkness as they compete in various challenges. "Being the host of a show, like Joe Rogan with 'Fear Factor' or Ashton Kutcher with 'Punk'd,' it was a new experience. There are different conceits to how to be engaging with that, and I hope the degree to which I laugh on the set will translate in the editing.

Total Blackout: Host Jaleel White Teases Tonight's Hysterical Premiere
Tonight Syfy premieres a super-fun new competition series that comedically exploits its contestants' fears and bravery. Total Blackout, hosted by multi-talent Jaleel White, forces players to identify objects and substances using every sense other than sight. Jaleel kindly agreed last week to be interviewed about his new show (via phone) while strolling the midday sidewalks of NYC. Right off the bat it was clear his current priorities are to pursue the unexpected and to stay connected to comedy, two aspects that led him to hosting Total Blackout.
"We knew it was going to be funny." He happily confided, "Still, one of the things that most attracted me to the project is that it's a departure from what people expect from me. It was definitely a new skill set I had to pick up." Continuing, "A huge component in me coming...

Jaleel White has been tabloid fodder ever since rumors of his rifts with Dancing With the Stars pro and partner Kym Johnson hit high gear. But the former Family Matters star isn’t letting the unfavorable attention get under his skin.

On April 25, Syfy delivers big scares and bigger laughs with the premiere of Total Blackout -- a new reality competition (hosted by Jaleel White) that lets contestant's imaginations run wild as they're forced to complete a series of challenges while in total darkness.
And as anyone whose had to restart a blown fuse box will tell you, there is nothing scarier than rifling around in the unknown.
To illustrate one of the show's most popular games, Flipping Out's Jenni Pulos & Best Ink's Sabina Kelley won the "Best Sports" Awards at The TCA's in January when they allowed their Total Blackout freak-out to be saved for posterity! Watch!

Resurrecting Steve Urkel, or more accurately Stefan Urquelle, was not a small deal for Jaleel White.
On Dancing With the Stars last week, the 35-year-old, former Family Matters star and his fellow cast members were asked to perform a routine inspired by the most memorable year of their lives.
For White, that year was when his now-legendary geek character created his smooth alter ego.
"I never touch any of my old characters; I leave them vaulted," White told TV Fanatic last week. "I knew the tabloids would have some fun with it, but it was emotional and I felt a lot of pressure to dance well."
Playing the part with which he achieved fame as a teenager was difficult enough, but the actor admits struggling with the media (specifically tabloid) attention paid to his appearance on the show this season.
"It was intense. What was supposed to be an uplifting tribute,...

So happy and yet so sad at the same time. Syfy has just announced its spring schedule, and surprise! The final season of fan favorite Eureka will premiere not in the summer as it usually does, but on April 16. The sooner the better, we say, and we can’t wait.
According to the announcement there are some great shows coming our way, including the second season of Lost Girl, a Treasure Island miniseries, the premieres of Monster Man, Dream Machines, and Total Blackout, the return of Ghost Hunters, Hollywood Treasure, and Fact or Faked: Paranormal Files, and of course some Saturday Original Movies. Here are the details:
Syfy’S Spring 2012 To Feature More Original Series And Original Hours Of Programming Than Any Spring Season In Channel’S History

Everyone loves a good comeback and as of late, TV has been chock-full of them.
When "The Voice's" Cee Lo Green had the former "Family Matters" star Jaleel White -- better known as Steve Urkel -- lip-sync in his "Cry Baby" music video, it was clear that though Urkel had fallen, he's gotten up. Soon enough, it was announced that White would get a new small screen gig: hosting a SyFy game show called "Total Blackout."
But he's far from the only actor from a '90s black sitcom to return to TV recently: "Sister, Sister" twins Tia and Tamera Mowry starred in their own blockbuster Style Network reality series; Keshia Knight Pulliam, who played Rudy on "The Cosby Show," got a gig on "Tyler Perry's House of Payne;" her TV big brother Malcolm Jamal Warner (a.k.a. Theo Huxtable) had a stint on "Community"; Jasmine Guy, the...

Jaleel White is now 35-years old. He does not wear suspenders or big glasses, and he does not exclaim, "Did I do that?" at inopportune yet comedically-appropriate times. He's an actor, writer and producer, with a long list of credits on TV and film. But not everyone realizes that. Especially Hollywood casting directors.
Speaking to The Wrap on Saturday, White, the one-time Steve Urkel, said that after a decade and a half of working consistently -- and now hosting the Syfy show "Total Blackout" -- he wants the opportunity to finally shatter his "Family Matters" image. His idea? Use a little meth, so to speak.
"I would love to be on 'Breaking Bad.' But one of the things about it also is Walter White, for a generation, he is Malcolm's dad," White said, speaking of "Breaking" star Bryan Cranston, who once featured as the father on the teen comedy "Malcom in the Middle.

Jaleel White (Family Matters) was at the TCA Winter Press Tour today to talk about his new series on Syfy called Total Blackout, a Us adaptation of the Danish game show of the same name. The series is a half-hour game show in which contestants will battle each other (and their phobias) in a series of challenges.
The main structure of the show is three rounds in which there are no lights, no blindfolds and the players have to identify items in the dark or complete other physical challenges. Night vision cameras will catch all the action.
The TCA panel featured a live demo of the process in which several TV actors and personalities participated, including Sam Huntington (Being Human), Jenni Pulos (Interior Therapy With Jeff Lewis), Sabina Kelley (Best Ink), Sarah Colonna (Chelsea Lately). They were all tasked with identifying objects in 3 tanks, which included a feather duster, a foot and eels in water.
