Cek Toko Sebelah 2: A Heartfelt, Touching yet Entertaining Sequel
aipsun1 July 2023
Although not as strong and funny as the first movie, Cek Toko Sebelah 2 consistently presents a heartfelt, touching and entertaining drama. Heavy topics such as childfree, marriage and classism are delivered in the right portion without being too patronizing. Laura Basuki, who replaced the previous cast -Gisella Anastasia for the role of Nathalie, was also considered the right decision. Not to mention the undeniable performance of Adinia Wirasti, which feels more uplifting than the previous movie. Cek Toko Sebelah 2 is just another proof of Ernest Prakasa's expertise in working on romantic comedy movies.

Touching and Marvelous

Warning: Spoilers
I brought my mom to watch this movie in the theatre last year, and it actually amused me because she cried during the movie and later told me that she could relate to the movie so much and experienced things similar to the characters in the movie.

This movie tells a lot of stories from both the upper and middle-class sides of Indonesia, especially Chinese-Indonesian.

As a Chinese-Indonesian who came from what people call a "wealthy" family, my mom also experienced struggles in the same way as the characters in this movie, especially Natalia and Erwin, who in fact still exist out there for a lot of people and struggle as much as Natalia and Erwin in the movie, or perhaps worse.

This movie teaches me not to judge people from their outside and their past actions because what they did or you experienced in the past doesn't always describe the same for everybody else. It also teaches me not to demand people follow what you want, because what you want doesn't always mean it's the best for them or for you.

I can't believe I'm the very first person reviewing this MASTERPIECE!
yohanesbenh29 April 2023
The concept is so simple. What makes it masterpiece is the dialog is so well written, and some of them are mindblowing. The dialog often not to be made "scripted" but rather natural.

The plot itself is rather predictable. So if you are looking for some plot twists, there aren't much. The strength of the movie is the life lessons. So many of it that we could relate to our life, especially when you're in your 20s-30s. For what it is, it's pretty fair and not edgy at all.

I personally enjoys plot-based movies. But this one caught my interest even more every second of it. I watched the first movie with family on the cinema (I wasn't sure why I would watch a drama on cinema but yes, with family thing), it was amazing and so well written. This one is no inferior then the first movie.

Very recommended to watch, especially those who are still working on their love life but parents are tougher than rocks, stricter than a General to their soldiers.
