I had not heard about the 2022 Taiwanese horror movie "Minxiong Haunted House" prior to here in 2023, as I sat down to watch it for the first time.
Writer Keng-Ming Chang delivered a somewhat strange script for the 2022 Taiwanese horror movie "Minxiong Haunted House", which is brought to life on the screen by director Bang-Yao Liu. Sure, the movie was watchable, but I have to be bluntly honest and say that the storyline felt somewhat chaotic, disorganized and erratic to me.
I wasn't familiar with the cast ensemble in the movie. But then again, despite of watching a lot of Asian movies, then I haven't actually delved that deep into the Taiwanese cinema. It should be noted, though, that the actors and actresses in the movie, especially lead actress Cheryl Yang (playing He Shing) carried the movie quite well with a great performance.
Visually then "Minxiong Haunted House" was quite good. And while it wasn't exactly an archetypical horror movie that just tossed one jump scare after another at the audience, then the special effects in the movie were helping to build a genuinely dark and brooding atmosphere.
"Minxiong Haunted House" is not exactly top notch among Asian horror cinema, but it made for a fair enough movie for a single viewing. And yeah, I doubt that I will ever return to watch it a second time, simply because the storyline fell somewhat short of entertaining me properly.
My rating of "Minxiong Haunted House" lands on an average five out of ten stars.
