Based on a manga series by Nobuyuki Anzai. It is 33 volumes long and was published by Shogakukan in Japan. It ran in Weekly Shonen Sunday from April 1995 to February 2002. A PlayStation 2 game exists called "Flame of Recca: Final Burning" that was released only in Japan. A special OVA (Original Video Animation) was created for it as well that is based off of the end of the Manga series. It was released June 10, 2004.
There is a second English dub done by Animax Asia that was dubbed in Hong Kong.
The Japanese VHS tapes were ¥5,800 each.
The series was released in Japan by Pony Cannon on 11 Laserdiscs.
