The title of the episode is a reference to the Final Destination (2000) movies, where the plot revolves around the idea of Death collecting people who seems to have cheated it, which is the reason of the whole episode trying to avoid Jerry's destiny predicted by the fortune cookie.
Rick utters the words "Eye of Thundera, give me suits beyond suits!", a variation on Lion-O phrase from Thundercats (1985) when using the Sword of Omens.
Old Man Hucksbee mentions Margaret Howe pleasuring a dolphin in the 1960s. Not only did this happen during a real NASA-funded research project, Drunk History (2013) also features this story in their season 6 episode Drugs (2019), in which Carl Sagan is played by Chris Parnell, who voices Jerry in Rick and Morty.
The story Rick told about the woman and the dolphin was actually not completely accurate. While the event did happen it wasn't because she was attracted to it. The dolphin had bonded with her and wouldn't cooperate until the event happened. The dolphin saw the scientist as her mate. Once they were separated the dolphin suffered severe depression.
The theme to the 1970s TV show Taxi (1978) plays during this episode twice. Once during a fight scene and then during the end credits in its entirety. Christopher Lloyd starred in Taxi and also Back to the Future (1985), where he played the character Doc Brown, which served as the inspiration for the character Rick Sanchez.
