Soldier of Fortune.
southdavid4 October 2022
The sixth season of "Rick and Morty" is proving a bit more consistent than the fifth and is, to my mind, improving across it's run. This fifth episode maintains the clever storytelling of the last episode but manages to be even funnier.

At Panda Express, whilst the rest of the family get banal fortune cookie fortunes, Jerry's (Chris Parnell) say that he will have sex with his mother. The rest of the family dismiss the prediction though Jerry can't shake it and convinces Rick (Justin Roiland) to look into it. Rick discovers that indeed, Jerry's fate is questionable, so the pair head to the fortune cookie production plant, only to make a terrible discovery.

It's actually quite a similar episode to last week in many ways. There's no B-Story again, as the rest of the family are sent to the Zoo for a story that will only recur in the (frankly bizarre) post-credits scene. The conclusion is an imaginative fight scene, indeed the sort of scene that would only happen in "Rick and Morty" as he battles an armed force who utilise and then are undone by the power of the fated fortune cookies. It's a little more of "old Rick" that certain reviewers seem to have been clamouring for, smart, capable and cruel to his family - he's even started belching again. I do like the Rick and Jerry combination, it's a relationship that is perhaps the one that's best suited to storytelling as it's as antagonistic as it is compassionate.

I also liked the Taxi theme runner, that is just the sort of thing that people on the internet would suddenly decide is cool.

Another excellent episode in a season that has really found its feet.

Best episode in a long time
reedychris7 October 2022
This season has been bringing back more of what we love about rick and morty and this episode was definitely the best of them so far.

Absolutely crack up, random weirdness that makes absolutely no sense but makes you laugh regardless.

Reminded me of pickle rick, why ... because why not. Rick and Morty doesn't always need to make sense or have a deeper meaning for the characters , its free to just be ridiculous. Its what it was built on and should always keep too, even if only for a few episodes a season.

If it comes to it, I'll shoot her in the head. Oh yeah, the fortune didn't say if she was alive or dead.

Jerry was right, but he is usually wrong.
pavlomir3 October 2022
No reviews? I bet my review with be the first one, but I doubt it. Anyway, solid episode just like the previous. Good addition to the Rick & Morty, keeping it to the originality of the show, I personally like it more when original ideas dominate in the writing of the episodes. Parodying other movies and people is just cliche.

In this episode Jerry had a lucky cookie with unlucky wish - to be with his mom. Despise nobody believing him, he indeed had something to worry about it. Jerry and Rick will to go an adventure to the undergrounds of the deep kept secret (Futurama did something alike back in the days). Rick will meet his destiny, which he cannon beat, 'cause is the destiny, but he manage anyway.

Classic Rick and Morty
grcbwils4 October 2022
This episode reminded me of pickle rick from season 3, only this time Jerry's in the story this time which is hilarious. I loved everything about this episode, we get to see how op Rick really is, and it reminds me of his what he used to act like in the first 2 seasons. I thought the pacing was excellent and thought the ending was great. I don't want to spoil anything about this episode for those who haven't seen it yet but this in my opinion has been the best episode of season 6 so far. My 2nd pick would be episode 1 and my 3rd would be night family. Overall, this fun adventure with Rick and Jerry is just what I needed to keep me invested for the rest of the season.

"If it comes down to it, I promise I'll put a bullet in her head"
Gernot S.5 October 2022
After quite a bunch of mediocre, good and pretty good episodes, this season and the last, I gotta say: perfect episode. Clever story, fast pacing, great mini-ideas, and, most importantly: I laughed out loud like five to seven times. That didn't happen for a long time, watching the show.

Bonus points for making me feel smart. I realized the reason Rick used Jerry as a human shield, before he explained it. Yeah me.

10 out of 10.

(and I'm picky. 10/10 happens only once or twice a year)

This new great and hugely intelligent feature of imdb says my review is short 113 characters. So... did you know that tunas are highly specialized migrating species? They swim continuously to counterbalance their negative buoyancy, travelling hundreds of kilometers/miles. This strategy has a high energy cost, forcing them to move in search of food and has resulted in morphological and physiological adaptations for thermoregulation and high oxygen extraction efficiency. Therefore, temperature and dissolved oxygen concentration affect tuna behavior significantly.

Your fortune cookie: You will have a very decent bowel movement.

What an ep
westy_captain3 October 2022
Ahhhhhhh that was great, just finished watching it and really enjoyed this one.

So far season 6 has been great with out being awesome.

It's nice Rick and Morty finally heading closer to fun adventure eps which is what the writers were going for.

Isn't it everyone's worst nightmare to have sex with their mum and then it being inevitable....

600 letters for a 20 minute show is hard..... ummm I'm conclusion this has been my fav ep of the season without having to rely on Rick and Morty law which is nice. And then the ending was really clever. Even sticks to the wall guy had a reason to be there and conclusion.

Damn this is funny. Season 6 continues to excel.

Warning: Spoilers
This episode is the creative ideas I want from the show. A great play on the themes of "Final Destination" the teen horror series from the 2000's, also a classic Rick and Jerry episode, where the mishaps and strides of luck shape the story's humor. Twists of fate are blown to Hilarious proportion, with Rick once again sharing a slight bit of heart towards Jerry. It's an tricky balance to not have Rick care too much for Jerry, but strangely the writers find a way everytime to reset their dynamic, everytime an episode about them occurs. The concept of the episode plays around with prventing atrocitiesfrom happening, and controlling fate to your own benefits. A similar idea to "Final Destination" itself. However in those films Death was in control. With the humor intact, and Ricks sheer moments of heart. Rick not only smartly figures out a way to control Jerry and see if what happens to him happens, but also re-shapes the fabric of fate within the universe. All seen through fortune cookies of course. Which is the level of small stupidity I like from this show. Bring an mundane idea to its maximum scenario. The episode proves that Jerry and Rick lead to great ideas. Even if this episode is a little too crazy, and has a lot of action. It still maintains the quality of what the show is about, finding creative jokes to up the anty and character dynamics. If this is the future of Rick and Morty we need this. It's balsy and crude, and filled with tons of detail.

You cannot escape fate

Warning: Spoilers
Or can you?

What a bizarrely stupid premise executed in a bizarrely clever way. I was worried off of the premise alone that this would feel like something from the previous season (which wasn't my favorite), but that ended up not being the case.

This was actually very funny. I think I laughed for just about the entire runtime. Rick's joke and quips he tells Jerry, and Jerry taking them so seriously, was ingenious. Rick DOES actually care about Jerry, which is nice to see. It's hard love it seems, but still love nonetheless. I'll bet Rick would secretly miss Jerry if he was gone for good.

The mom joke almost went too far, but didn't thankfully. I'd for nothing else, the concept here was very original. Feels much like an earlier episode of the show.

So far, I'm liking this season quite a bit.

Also, the Panda Express fight was awesome and hilarious.

Hilarious One-Off Rick and Jerry Adventure
benmaster-710553 October 2022
While this episode is no masterpiece, especially compared to the absolutely amazing episode that came before it, it is certainly not a bad episode. Rick and Jerry make a very hilarious duo that we haven't seen on their own for three whole seasons. The concept of fortune cookies being real and actually controlling one's fate is a very inventive concept, and they expand on it quite well. The episode also happens to be effortlessly quotable (fortune cookies are alien poop). If you're looking for a more serious episode from this season, go watch Night Family. However, if you're just looking for a fun time, this is a great episode of Rick and Morty.

Not a parody of "Final Destination"
ericstevenson5 October 2022
Warning: Spoilers
This episode features Jerry reading a fortune cookie that says he'll have sex with his mother. Yeah, that sounds like a desperate plot to have, but it's actually a fantastic episode. He and Rick go to the creators of fortune cookies and find out they do in fact have the power to make things come to life. I really did find myself rooting for Jerry. I really wanted him to not have sex with his mother. Anyway, this episode was hilarious with tons of great jokes.

I love how it makes fun of how Rick is so invincible. It turns out anyone is until their fortunes come true. Since Rick had one that said he'd make a new friend, the episode ends with this coming true with Jerry, making Rick furious. That perfectly describes how he was even more invulnerable in this episode, being shot in the head numerous times. I also love the first action scene at the restaurant, which was all a misunderstanding anyway. It was hilarious and it didn't become too vulgar, despite its premise. ****

A shell of its former self
jackhaydenson7 October 2022
This episodes got everything that makes post-season 2 Rick and Morty so subpar.

Beth is a one-note character who works off of Jerry's stupidity.

Jerry is absurdly dumb and one note.

Rick is a 4th wall breaking "le epic redditor" quip machine who can't be harmed or faulted.

Morty is jaded and acts like Rick.

It's centered around Dan's incest fetish AGAIN.

If you're a Redditor, or over the age of 30, you will find this episode to be good; as it appeals to your humor. For any Ron else however, it doesn't hold a candle to the prime episodes, before Dan purged the creative writing team.

No laughs to be had.

Classic Rick and Morty and MORE
tdalloca4 October 2022
Unpredictable, fast-paced, unapologetic, grossly funny, character-driven. That's classic Rick and Morty.

It doesn't stop there, though! We have well-placed callbacks (one of them hilarious), easy-on-the-eye animation, and more world building.

I don't think Rick and Morty should play safe, and sometimes it almost seems that's their goal. Being a show which you'd be embarrassed to recommend to your parents is definitely the point. They aren't afraid to shock their audience, and it's this sentiment which makes many legendary episodes to be possible. What I found specially remarkable in this season is watching how tastefully they're using this liberty.

I'm completely convinced they took notice of the critiques of season 4 and 5, made some course corrections, and put to good use the money adult swim is throwing at them. There's no denying the results!

Season six ON FIRE.

felt like MEESEEKS or sth
CinemaFX6 October 2022
Just when I thought Rick and Morty couldn't have got this much interesting. Even last season - it was the 1st episode with Nimbus that was great. The finale was too, but that was mostly them closing arcs from few seasons in one episode, Relationships closing with Morty and time with 2 crows or whatever felt like such rushed job.

Also, them being like - now the fans can shut up felt the Show being not interested in being genuine with itself at all. But now with Season 6, its back with Solariks which was such a great opener which bottled the last season's ending. Then last 2 were good as well. This however felt like the old days. Like Meeseeks. Whole episode was a great ride. I felt terrified at parts, and very much gripping from front till end. They did some creative things with the sleep dynamic during action sequences --good gracious and didnt coped out in the middle when you have such great concept.

Seems people are weird out over Rick not being supergod like with S03 and S04. Well you know what? I'd rather now with S01 and S02's Rick than the later. Speaking in terms of power-level. Of course, he is still same intellect (and be in peril) even when sharing screen time with all family members evenly.

Extremely funny!
Tobannn26 January 2024
This is, without a doubt, one of the funniest episodes of the entire show. They managed to turn a silly and recurring urban insult into a completely new, spectacular and super fresh story. A Rick and Jerry adventure that does not disappoint at all.

It feels like the classic Rick and Morty of the first seasons, fully focused on comedy and the absurdity of the scenarios, finishing it off with the sarcastic and acid humor so characteristic of Rick, which in turn is accompanied by excellent development in the episode's own plot.

It is a pleasant surprise to see how always in Rick and Morty they manage to bring something fresh when one might think that they have already seen everything and every resource had been used. Worthy of applause.

Great episode
kindereldar3 October 2022
Warning: Spoilers
Great episode, really like the new animation it looks amazing.

Great Rick and Jerry adventure, I think I actually like it more than Rick and Morty adventures.

This season has given us already many gems episodes like Night Family and the First Episode when we finally see Prime Rick for the first time since he killed Rick's wife and child beth.

Really liked Jerry this episode and Rick who was actually thoughful behind his many masks, and I think Rick is actually immortal after the last scene.

Can't wait for next week's episode.

Although I think one of the writers really have an incest fetish.

Chaos does not mean funny
rupertpatterson9 October 2022
I loved Night Family, but really disliked this episode. The writer seems to have taken the scattergun approach. So much crazy stuff happens. I understand. It's Rick & Morty! It's always nuts, but this episode is lacking structure and genuinely interesting sci fi ideas that are even vaguely plausible. I felt none of the gags landed at all. I'm sure others will enjoy, but man. This one was a huge swing and a miss for me. I'm really looking forward to the next one which is very highly rated so hopefully this is just a blip. There are historically weak R&M episodes and I think this is just one of those. It's good they are using a broad brush I guess and yon can't please everyone and all that...

Step-writer, help me, I'm stuck with incest themes!
PixelatedCensorship3 October 2022
It's not just unfunny but it's cringy and awkward. Awful season overall, but this one was a total miss for me. It's the new big bang theory. Some people will fight tooth and nails over its greatness. I recommended this show back then to everyone I knew. Now we all collectively agree that something is not right with last two seasons! (Season 5 was little better) Did Glasses Morty become a part of writing crew now? I don't care about theme of the episode honestly. If the rest of episode were to be fun, I'd still enjoy it regardless of bothersome motive. But no! No! No! Incest means controversial! That's funny, right! WE know certain co-creator's fantasies. But making entire season out of it? C'mon... This is just too much and unfunny!
