A VERY short short:)
preppy-317 November 2012
French short only 6 minutes long. It's about Jerome (who is secretly gay) falling in love with a member on his basketball team named Cedric. He also tutors Cedric in math at home. One day during the tutoring Cedric leans over and kisses Jerome on the lips. Jerrome doesn't know how to respond. Cedric leaves thoroughly embarrassed and Jerome has to deal with his own thoughts. It all ends on a positive note.

Sweet cute little film. It's quick, well-done and the acting is good. The kiss is sweet and gentle and there's some casual male nudity (back view only) in a locker room scene. This was done in France to combat homophobia in schools. Worth seeing.

Nothing to do with realistic life

Warning: Spoilers
"Basket et Maths" is, as the title already tells you, a French short film from 2009, which means 3 more years and it has its 10th anniversary. It is a television production by Rodolphe Marconi and Sébastien Perroy. At 7 minutes only, it is really short. And it is also really bad. I don't think the acting is a huge problem here, or the direction, but the script is really bad. Until the ending, it is just a very forgettable film, but with the final scene, it becomes downright ridiculously bad. We have a teenager who plays basketball and has a crush on a teammate. So far so good, but what happens in the alternate universe of gay-themed short films? The love interest randomly leaves his girlfriend and wants to learn maths together with our "hero". Nothing more is told, but it is very clear what the writer wanted to tell us with that? And what he actually tells us is that he has absolutely no idea when it comes to relatable authentic storytelling. Who needs realism right? Glad this one was over so quickly. Stay far far away.

Rushed short
Irishchatter2 September 2018
Warning: Spoilers
I honestly thought this short was rather rushed because it seemed like the writers or whoever was involved in this, didn't want to make the boy's realtionship more eye catching then it has to be. I mean, I would like to have seen more romance involved with the boy's, maybe if it was 6 minutes longer, it could cover the whole story!

a sketch

its obvious purpose - to be instrument against homophobia. the result - a nice, delicate short film who has only a sin - it is far to be coherent. the cause is not exactly the 7 minutes but the status of generous idea who has not the chance to become a script. Jerome and Cedric. first - a sensitive daydreaming. the second - pure sportsman . tutorial at math. a kiss. the confession of Jerome to his brother about the special feeling. and the bizarre end. short - a film as a collection of sketches. suggestions, gestures, scene by scene using, for sense, the imagination of the viewer. sure, it is only an option of director to make a project using not the most inspired form of minimalism. but the final meet between the two boys becomes the basic argument for a simple improvisation.

about an age

at first sigh, instrument of French education propaganda. in fact, delicate story from teenagers universe. desire, confusion, game. and importance of a natural gesture. part of a campaign against homophobia, it is not lesson about political correctness or pledge for gay option but only a beautiful short movie about friendship. and this aspect is only relevant. because the message of tolerance is essential for many aspects of life. and basic virtue of film is to present, in realistic way, feelings of an age and the solution as normal consequence. nice, charming, realistic, it is the kind of film who seems so much with a sunshine.
