Huge step up
masonsaul20 December 2022
After the convoluted and rushed mess of a predecessor, Mortal Kombat Legends: Snow Blind is a huge step up in quality that offers a more contained story that wisely focuses on the insanely gory action and character beats opposed to the convoluted lore.

Although it does indulge in a few of the more frustrating impulses that the franchise just can't seem to escape from but thankfully they are still fun and unexpected but definitely not necessary for this smaller, self contained story.

Manny Jacinto is a really good Kenji, bringing the misplaced confidence that transitions into a wiser maturity. David Wenham is a solid Kano, the humour and viciousness is still there even if he doesn't rival the best versions of the character.

The animation is really good even if it struggles with movement, swapping from the old DC style to the one utilised in newer, rebooted ones which also works here as everything looks a little more vibrant and striking, especially the character designs.

Gruesome and violent
Floated25 November 2022
Having watched the previous two film in this Mortal Kombat Legends trilogy, Snow Blind feels quite different. There are different characters and the graphic animations here is vastly more gruesome, violent and brutal. Right from the opening scene, it sets the tone for the rest of the film.

The story is a step up from the second film Battle of the Realms and overall more engaging throughout. The animation and color is just as good. There could have been more developed work for the characters.

At times, there are confusing scenes as but in general this film seems more fitted for hardcore fans of the franchise.

Fist of the Mortal blind Swordsman

Warning: Spoilers
Really enjoyable MK film to watch, been a fan of Kenshi for a long time that's why I bought this on Blu-ray. The pros that I like are the relation between Kenshi and Sub-Zero, Kenshi as a character, the post-apocolyptic setting and Kenshi's radar view, the cons is that it felt rushed in plot & character dev, the art style, and the final act was given to the mentor rather than Kenshi.

Overall a fun but not so perfect film, definitely good enough although I consider this non-canon, they manage to bring Kenshi to film first time in the most cool way (though he seems to similar to his son, Takeda).

Action packed
sharpcourse17 October 2022
This is coming from a true fan of the video game franchise created by Ed Boon and John Tobias. Reverse anagram Boon and Tobias to get the character Noob Saibot(I wonder why he hasn't been featured in any of the storylines so far in the franchise).

The story seems to be inspired by the MK11 video game with characters introduced in MK Armageddon (for those who are not familiar with some of them).

The plot has a very beautiful unusual concept of a Mad Max inspired dystopian future, the art style is very beautiful and stylish, voice acting is decent and of course there is the characteristic over-the-top gore. It's strongest point is the action which is fluid and contributes to the overall entertainment.

Character development is good, even though it's focus is on the two main characters. Could have done with more details into Kenshi's training and development into the blind swordsman. It's lengthy but still not properly handled. That part of the plot was a bit all over the place. The movie's plot twist involving Kenshi's relationship with both Shang Tsung and sub zero threatens to affect it's faithfulness to the source material.

Pretty decent action which is not lacking in entertainment value.

Kenshi got the limelight and I couldn't be more happy!
SoumikBanerjee199631 July 2023
Although not as action-heavy as the previous part, it still performs reasonably, primarily because of how organic the narration is.

I love how they had given proper time to Kenshi, one of those characters in this Mortal Kombat universe, which I believe has always been sidelined because of other prominent personalities, underappreciated, in spite of possessing a remarkable set of powers and skills!

He finally got his due recognition, and I couldn't be happier.

Now as far as the film is concerned, it is an enjoyable ride with fair amounts of bloodshed to entertain your yearnings, to satisfy your innermost appetite. Still, somewhere the story comes across as very routine, with the same arc we have encountered thousands of times! I wish the writer here had taken more risks instead of playing a safe hand!

The return of Sub-Zero
alxmxmff10 October 2022
Warning: Spoilers
Though trailers heavily implied that the main protagonist would be the blind swordsman, it turns out that they were quite misleading. Same can be said of the chief villain. If you were expecting to see the grand finale between Kenshi and Shang Tsung, you're in for the U-turn, as this is much more of a Sub-Zero's redemption arc than anything else.

Set in the dystopian future, after the Battle of the Realms, Snow Blind tells the story of an unlikely alliance between young and arrogant fighting prodigy named Kenshi and seasoned warrior Kuai Liang, the former leader of the deadly Lin Kuei clan, who is haunted by his past and withholds the power that could shape the future. After the former is deprived of his eyesight, courtesy of Shang Tsung, Kuai Liang reluctantly accepts to train him in the new ways. The ways which would, via the use of the magical sword, allow the young man's other senses to develop to the point of replacing his sight and further improving his fighting abilities. After Kenshi is captured by the King Kano's gang, a pack of bloodthirsty wasteland pirates gathered around the cyborg, Kuai Liang is left with no choice but to forsake his self-imposed pacifist lifestyle in an attempt to free his protegee. With the aid of Scorpion, an immortal demonic entity, he once again assumes the identity of fearsome Sub-Zero and takes on the pirates utilizing his godlike freezing powers to their max. The gruesome final conflict takes place in the Kronika's sanctuary, now occupied by King Kano. It is revealed that Kano was manipulating time and the events in order to establish himself as the ruler supreme in the present. Sub-Zero is forced to push himself to the very brink to stop Kano's temporal menace once and for all.

Though story lacks the scale of the previous entry, it is probably for the best. In this MK meets Mad Max sequel, we get a decent blend of old and new characters, but, since MKL continuity is not canon, there's a nice twist to them. If you are an MK fan, you may find this movie enjoyable. Otherwise, there's not much to write home about. Unnecessary blood and gore galore. Scorpion has to make a completely needless appearance, of course, otherwise Ed Boon would probably suffer a convulsive fit. Still, it manages to be the most original and somehow the overall best entry in the MK Legends series so far. Which, unfortunately, says a lot about the overall quality of this show.

Mindless Entertainment for MK Fans
bbevis-4795419 October 2022
After watching the previous two Mortal Kombat movies I was sure to keep my expectations in check. Scorpions revenge was entertaining but focused too much on other characters besides Scorpion. Legends had some good moments and fell off the rails in a ridiculous final ten minutes. Snow Blind is thankfully better than legends but still not as "good" as Scorpions Revenge. Snow Blind takes place in a wasteland after earth realm was destroyed by the apocalypse which is briefly explained during the 3rd act. Without spoiling much old "Bruce Wayne" mentors Kenshi into realizing his potential after his ego gets his butt handed to him. The relationship between Kenshi and Batman is the best part of the movie, though it could have been better developed. Kano, while typically cheeky, is not that intimidating or interesting as the main villain. Most people are here for the fights and there are plenty. However none of the fights standout. It's a bunch of blood and gore that is satisying at times, but none of the fights get your heart rate up. The animation and fights seem as basic as Snow Blinds story and that is really a shame. The gore does deliver a few gruesome fatalities that are entertaining of course, but I really think the next movie needs to amp up the stakes and intensity in this department. Snow Blinds brisk pace is nice and the ending leaves a bit to be desired. If you're a mortal kombat fan like myself you'll mindlessly enjoy yourself for the 80 minutes Snow Blind runs. I would recommend a rental if you're interested.

Cold shoulder? Didn't see that coming.
Pjtaylor-96-1380441 May 2023
'Mortal Kombat Legends: Snow Blind (2022)' takes place in a post-apocalyptic future, presumably decades after the events of 'Mortal Kombat Legends: Battle Of The Realms (2021)'. A cyber-enhanced Kano rules over the desolate realm with an iron first, his Black Dragon clan viciously raiding the few remaining settlements to mercilessly kill, maim or capture whoever they can find. Enter Kenshi, an arrogant up-and-comer whose desire to prove himself the best fighter of all puts him in the unfortunate position of not having any eyes. After he's wounded and left for dead, he crosses paths with a mysterious cold-shouldered individual who nurses him back to health and shows him how to survive - and fight - without his sight. The story is simple and to the point, setting up its world and characters before shifting its focus to an extended training montage and a brutal final battle. Its pacing drags in places and feels rushed in others, with some plot points even coming across as completely uncooked. However, it's generally entertaining and features a number of exciting, blood-soaked set-pieces that do justice to the notoriously violent nature of the games it's based on. Speaking of which, the cast is comprised of several characters who've appeared in various entries in the series and there are several references to the games sprinkled throughout. Fans of the source material will surely find a lot to appreciate here, and it's interesting to see how the post-apocalyptic aesthetic is transposed onto characters we've previously seen. The piece has a different look to its predecessors, with their harsh black shading being replaced with softer colouring and their blocky outlines being replaced with sharp yet slightly sketchy line work that overlaps in unexpected places. The visuals are distinct and effective, especially during the high-octane action. It's during these sequence that the animation really shines, remaining fast and fluid yet snappy and impactful. The blows are all crunchy and the gore is all grisly, leading to a series of scenes in which pain is almost palpable. Sometimes, the violence seems over-the-top for the sake of it, designed to shock rather than support the action or the atmosphere, but it generally enhances the experience rather than distract from it. It's one of the picture's unique selling points, too. The 'X-ray' elements aren't present, but I'd be lying if I said I actually missed them - or even noticed their omission prior to writing this sentence - despite the fact that they were fairly effective in the previous movies. Ultimately, this is an enjoyable and typically exciting action flick. It's a fair bit of fun throughout.

It was awesome

I would love to see more mortal Kombat animated movies. Please keep making these.

I would love to see more origin stories.

We need sub zero movie as well.

I want to see all these movies become connected to each other something like avengers movies. That we get origin movies of each character and at the end mortal kombat competition.

I would love to see a female mortal kombat movie including kitana and other characters.

I'm happy to see mortal kombat finally getting something than more just games. There is so much potential in mortal kombat universe it would be huge miss to waste it. Findlay got 600 characters thank you for reading.

"Oh, mate. I'm so past having a soul."
Groverdox26 November 2023
I've been playing Mortal Kombat games since the first one appeared in the arcade back in 1992. I can still remember how controversial these games were. The key selling point was the "violence", though this mostly just amounted to a bunch of red pixels.

Never was the series' blithe attitude toward joyful bloodshed more summed up than in the notorious "fatalities", allowing you to supposedly "kill" your opponent in ridiculously over-the-top ways, like ripping out their heart or decapitating them with a particularly hard punch.

Listening to the hoopla around video game violence that was such a moral panic back in the '90s, you would think that these games were nothing but fatalities. Of course, this isn't true. They had fantastic gameplay (especially the second game) and provided a bold and welcome counterpoint to the king of the fighting game hill, the Street Fighter games.

For all this, though, I was never much interested in the mythology of Mortal Kombat. I heard all that stuff about the Outworld and netherrealm or whatever and was never tempted to delve in. In fact, I think I preferred to be kept in the dark. The games have a dark and menacing aura about them, and some of the bossfights were actually scary, ie. The one against the giant, four-armed Mike Tyson lookalike Goro, or the towering, muscle bound, brutal warlord, Shao Kahn. I was actually scared facing these guys.

I think the less I knew about the games' back story, the better, because it made the chamber of horrors that were its bad guys more surprising each time I picked up a game.

For that reason, I had qualms about watching this most recent film spin-off of the Mortal Kombat video game franchise. I'd seen the first Mortal Kombat movie back in the '90s and it was actually pretty good, though I was only about ten when I saw it. "Mortal Kombat: Annihilation", on the other hand, flat-out sucked, and the recent reboot of the franchise into live action was also underwhelming.

I'll be honest, the only reason I watched "Mortal Kombat Legends: Snow Blind" was because I saw it was rated R18+ here in Australia, and for violence only. I had to see how much violence would lead to that hardest rating, and in a cartoon to boot.

And in regards to that violence, well, it does not disappoint. The opening scenes show a bunch of bad guys taking over a town by driving a bulldozer through it, which causes people's heads to burst like melons, and drives a spike through someone's chest, skewering their heart on the end of it like a shish kabob.

The army is led by evil Australian cyborg Kano, who declares himself king, and is later scene officiating a UFC-type fighting contest between two women. What is he, Dana White? Or maybe Joe Rogan? Anyway, when one girl beats the other, King Kano gives the victor the thumbs down like a Roman emperor, but the girl refuses to kill her opponent, so Kano kills them both, splattering their heads with his over-powered handgun.

Here's the thing about this violence: it's the only really adult material in the whole movie (or even the whole franchise!). That's what's always gotten me about Mortal Kombat. Take away the ridiculous ultraviolence and what do you have? Something not much more mature than a Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles movie.

"Mortal Kombat Legends: Snow Blind" doesn't even have any swearing. And you can forget about anything that even hints at sexuality. The Street Fighter animated movie - which is now, what, 25 years old? - at least had Chun Li in the shower.

I don't really mean this as a criticism. It's just something that's always stood out to me, the silliness of the costumes, the hammy dialogue, the cookie cutter plots... and the people being bisected down the middle in a spray of gore. It just doesn't go together.

I was telling you about the plot, right? Well after evil Kano becomes King, a brash young man arrives and fights off some bad guys, and also becomes convinced that he has met THE Sub-Zero, who is now an older, though no less musclebound, man, trying to make a peaceful living for himself as a farmer.

The young man is tricked by Shang Tsung and blinded, Sub-Zero offers to train him, we get some training sequences straight out of a Shaw Bros. Flick, Sub Zero mouths some hammy platitudes to inspire the young guy that sound like lines Yoda or Mr Miyagi forgot to say to Luke or Daniel, and then there's the final confrontation.

The basic plot is pretty familiar stuff, but I found it comfortable. The only surprises, as I've already mentioned, were the level of violence.

I still liked "Mortal Kombat Legends: Snow Blind" more than I expected I would. It's pretty entertaining from beginning to end, and I even appreciated the kung-fu movie clichés it used.

I mean, they're clichés for a reason. They're clichéd because they get the plot out of the way, and make room for some violence, and with all the blood and guts on screen, "Snow Blind" needed a pretty standard plot to make room for it.

Enjoyable
mikhailmagno19 October 2022
I'll start by saying I'm a fan of Sub-Zero (especially Kuai Liang) so giving him central focus obviously sways my preferential treatment of this movie. Additionally, I always enjoy his team up with the grandmaster of his rival clan so yeah this works for me. It's removed from the klassic Mortal Kombat storylines but we have (several) other movies about that so this one is a nice supplementary story to the franchise. Favorite part is when Kuai Liang teaches Kenshi about "...nothing more poisonous than 'I can't.'"

The only thing I'm not sure is whether this connects fully to the previous installments "Scorpion's Revenge" and "Battle of the Realms". As a stand-alone it works thanks to MK11 timeline shenanigans. Best to take it as an individual offering.

Kenshi Gets A Time To Shine In An Otherwise Okay Title
jeremycrimsonfox26 October 2022
Set decades after Liu Kang defeats Shao Kahn and Sjinnok, the Earthrealm has become a wasteland after revenants begin to lay waste to the realm. However, this has not stopped Kano, who has survived the events of Scorpion's Revenge and has become a cyborg, to form the Black Dragon and begin to take over the outposts. Kuai Liang, the second Sub-Zero, lives his life as an elderly farmer, and is attacked by three members of the Black Dragon, Kabal, Kira, and Kobra. However, trying to take over a new outpost for their own, the three are stopped by a boy named Kenshi Takahashi, who came to the town seeking a fight. After being nearly killed by Tremor, Kenshi is tricked by Shang Tsung, who serves under Kano, to release the souls of his ancestors to gain a sword, leaving the warrior blinded, he must help Kuai overcome a past event that has driven the Lin Kuei ninja to a solitary life to fight the Black Dragon and end King Kano's rule over the wasteland.

Loosely based on Kenshi's backstory in Deadly Alliance, this movie decides to go a new direction, going for a post-apocalypse setting a la Mad Max, as Kano and the Black Dragon ride vehicles similar to that movie franchise. Other than Sub-Zero, Kano, and Shang Tsung, no other characters from the last two films appear (other than a statue of Liu Kang), as the story focuses on Kenshi and Sub-Zero battling against the Black Dragon, which contain fan favorites like Kano and Kabal to more obscure characters like Kobra, Kira, and even No Face (who was only seen in the lackluster Special Forces as a boss character). However, like Battle of the Realms, which had Li Mei and D'Vorah on Shao Kahn's side, this movie adds in other characters to fill the ranks of Kano's crew (two of the most notable being Ferra/Torr and Erron Black), which will confuse those who don't know Mortal Kombat Legends is separate from the games.

As the characters go, they have been redesigned, with Kobra needing it the most (so people can stop calling him a Ken Masters rip-off), and Kano is rocking the cybernetic body and orange mohawk. However, this movie is not as good as the last two, as most of the plot is Sub-Zero playing Mr. Miyagi to a blind Kenshi, and while the movie retains the blood and gore, it seems to be there mainly for random moments, with only few moments where it mattered in the story. I think it's an okay movie, but the anti-apocalypse setting and the lackluster story weighs it down hard.

Hello everyone. Well, my opinion about this work is that it was so beautiful that I don't know what to say. I myself was waiting for the release time and I hoped that it would be good. I finally got to see it today and I really liked it. You were able to attract my attention and you were able to show yourself well and I am also happy about this. Thank you very much to the production team who worked hard and created this beautiful work and designed the fights and characters well. To all those who are fans of the series. I recommend watching Mortal Kombat. Thank you very much to the production team.

Good luck.

Moved By The Story
mrsolveyt6 January 2024
Honestly, this is the best out of the 4 MK Legends Movie series. The tone it sets and the animation was quite a step up. It didn't felt rushed like every other Mortal Kombat movie. Setting all the obvious Plus Points aside.

I'm totally in love with the story and the Characters. I liked that this is different from all the cliche storylines. It brought something new. It showed a different origin of Kenshi as well as the character of Sub Zero all while Kano being a decent villain. It showed us all that flawlessly with quite great Action sequences.

At the end I'm saying SNOW BLIND, WINS! FLAWLESS MOVIE!

Not the best of additions to the "Mortal Kombat" franchise...
paul_haakonsen11 October 2022
I sat down to watch the 2022 animated movie "Mortal Kombat Legends: Snow Blind" with my son. And I have to admit that I was not familiar with all the characters in this storyline. But then again, I haven't been playing the games for a long, long time, so I don't keep up with who is in the franchise.

I have seen the 2021 animated movie "Mortal Kombat Legends: Battle of the Realms" and the 2020 animated movie "Mortal Kombat Legends: Scorpion's Revenge" as well. And of these three, then this 2022 is the weakest addition to the "Mortal Kombat" franchise, simply because the storyline is all over the place, and there isn't really much to keep your attention to the various characters. So writer Jeremy Adams didn't exactly impress with the storyline here.

Visually then "Mortal Kombat Legends: Snow Blind" is good. You know what you get when you sit down to watch something like this; an abundance of fighting and over-the-top violence. And yeah "Mortal Kombat Legends: Snow Blind" offers that as well, and that is one of this particular animated movies strongest aspects. But it is hardly enough to make it worthwhile watching.

The art and animation style used in "Mortal Kombat Legends: Snow Blind" is adequate. It does look and feel like it belongs in the "Mortal Kombat" franchise.

The voice acting, since this is an animated movie, is adequate, though there wasn't a single familiar voice on the cast list, aside from David Wenham. I didn't recognize his voice though, and it was only when I perused the cast listing on IMDb that I realized it was him.

"Mortal Kombat Legends: Snow Blind" is something for the hardcore fans of the "Mortal Kombat" franchise, for sure. For a casual viewer, then this is adequate enough for a single viewing, then you forget about it and move on.

My rating of "Mortal Kombat Legends: Snow Blind" from director Rick Morales lands on a bland five out of ten stars.
