Grant Page, the larger-than-life Australian stunt performer famous for his jaw-dropping work in films including Mad Max, The Man From Hong Kong and Mad Dog Morgan, has died. He was 85.
Page died Thursday when the car he was driving near his home in Kendall on the coast of New South Wales hit a tree, his son Leroy Page told Daily Mail Australia.
Page worked with director Brian Trenchard-Smith on more than a dozen projects, including The Stuntmen (1973), King Fu Killers (1974), The Man From Hong Kong (1973) — where Page fights martial arts expert Jimmy Wang Yu in scenes using knives, cleavers and meat hooks — Deathcheaters (1976), Stunt Rock (1978) and Hospitals Don’t Burn Down! (1978).
And for the documentary Dangerfreaks (1987), Trenchard-Smith filmed Page standing on a ledge outside the perimeter fence on the observation deck of the Empire State Building in New York.

Even worse, her sister Rebecca (Hannah Fierman; Dead by Midnight (11pm Central), Evil Little Things) goes to Julie’s apartment to give her cat Pepper her meds, while she’s there she’s killed by an intruder.
Months later Julie is still suffering from guilt over her death and lets herself be pressured into moving to a new home in the middle of nowhere by Marcus and their therapist Dr. Tate. Thais Ramone and Patrick Mendes dish on living in Las Vegas. Pic credit: @thaisramoniee/Instagram
Thais Ramone and Patrick Mendes opened up about the K1 visa process on the latest season of 90 Day Fiance, but their lives have changed since we last saw them on TV.
Thais, who lived in Brazil with her close-knit family, came to the U.S to be with Patrick and attempted to settle into her new home in Dallas, Texas.
However, things were not as easy as she envisioned after realizing that Patrick’s older brother John, who lived with him, had no desire to move out.
Patrick refused to kick out his brother, and throughout the season, John and Thais butted heads several times as viewers took sides. Some people agreed that John should move out and allow the couple their space, while others felt John should not have to leave the only home he knows.

The Oscar race came into sharper focus at this year’s Toronto International Film Festival, with actors like Brendan Fraser and Michelle Yeoh cementing their lead contender status, and big-budget studio efforts like The Fablemans and Glass Onion premiering to raves.
The fall superfecta – Venice, Telluride, Toronto and New York – is the traditional launchpad for the prestige dramas that go on to vie for Best Picture. But for documentaries, it’s a different story.
Analyzing the last 10 years of Academy Award nominees for Best Documentary Feature, most premiered early in the eligibility year, typically at Sundance. But a fortunate few have launched as late as the fall, arriving with such noise and momentum that they rise to the top and earn one of the five slots among the year’s most prestigious nonfiction films.

When Anthony Bourdain took issue with “Baby Driver” in a blunt tweet a few days after the movie’s release, the celebrity chef was advocating for another kind of action movie experience. He followed up his initial outburst by singling out “The Raid,” the bloody Indonesian martial arts film, as a superior movie. Whether or not the comparison is fair, Bourdain did hit on two crucial factors with respect to the action genre — it is big, and it is global. No discerning viewer can truly claim complete knowledge of the genre before at least getting familiar with the range of possibilities around the world.
Here are the four essential subgenres every diehard fan should know. If Bourdain traveled the world going to film festivals in search of authentic regional action films, instead of food, these are the sorts of kickass flavors likely to entice him.

Khaleesi + Finnick = Please Take Our Money and Pass the Kleenex. "Game of Thrones" queen Emilia Clarke has a new sun and stars in "Hunger Games" hero Sam Claflin, and the first trailer for their romantic drama "Me Before You" already has us swooning.
Emilia Clare plays the sweet and slightly ditzy Louisa Clark, who gets a job taking care of the recently paralyzed and now depressed Will Traynor (Sam Claflin).
It sounds like she's the classic manic pixie dream girl who brings the guy out of his shell and gives him a reason to live, but there's more to the story than that. The film is based on the novel by British author Jojo Moyes, who also wrote the screenplay. The all-star cast includes "Doctor Who" alum Jenna Coleman as Katrina Clark, "Game of Thrones" alum Charles Dance as Steven Traynor, Janet McTeer as Camilla Trainor, and Matthew Lewis as Patrick.

Doctor Who returns to our screens in a little over a month - and you can read our 100% accurate guide to the new series right here.
But while it's always useful to have the facts, it's also great fun to indulge in some wild speculation - and Doctor Who has generated plenty of that over the years.
These are 15 of the most ridiculous rumours about the BBC's sci-fi smash that never came true - from Hollywood stars taking over the Tardis to an untimely exit for Peter Capaldi.
Warning: Contains perilously high levels of nonsense.
1. Jason Statham was in line to replace David Tennant
Reports emerged in early 2007 that professional tough guy Jason Statham was the BBC's top pick to play the 11th incarnation of our Time Lord, in what was pitched as Doctor Who "meets gangland".

Chicago – Telling the story of Alan Turing – the British closeted gay man who broke a Nazi code in World War II, saving millions of lives – was put upon the talented shoulders of two disparate individuals. Screenwriter Graham Moore – from Chicago – and Norwegian director Morten Tyldum collaborated on “The Imitation Game.”
It was a bit of luck and happenstance that brought the two creators together (see below), but their passion for properly vetting the complex story and distilling it to the audience was a wise and loving process. Graham Moore was born in the South Side of Chicago, but knew of Turing from his other life in computers and science. Morten Tyldum is a notable filmmaker from Norway, who was looking for his first American project. They were supported by the amazing performance of Benedict Cumberbatch in his portrayal of Alan Turing, and a host of other fine British actors, including Keira Knightley.

How did an 80s Van Damme action flick emerge from a failed Spider-Man movie and Masters Of The Universe sequel? Ryan takes a look...
Cannon Films was in deep trouble by 1987. Its boom years, between the late 70s to the mid-80s, were largely thanks to an eclectic and hurriedly-made collection of B-movies: Chuck Norris action pictures, Charles Bronson revenge flicks and lots of things with the word ‘ninja’ in the title.
Thanks to its outsider status and anything-for-a-buck approach to filmmaking, Cannon Films became a major name in Hollywood, the grinning faces of its brusque founders - producers Menahem Golan and Yoram Globus - frequently appearing in TV news reports and tinseltown trade papers.
But in the mid-80s, Golan and Globus began to change their strategy. While they would still make Death Wish sequels and Chuck Norris pics, they began to dabble in making more expensive films,...

The rise and fall of Cannon Films is told in Mark Hartley's wildly entertaining documentary, Electric Boogaloo. Here's Ryan's review...
Producers Menahem Golan and Yoram Globus were famous (or infamous) for many things, but a stringent approach to quality filmmaking was hardly one of them. At the height of their success in the 1980s, the Israeli cousins, and their company Cannon Films, were synonymous with cheap B-movies of just about every kind: Chuck Norris action flicks, sex comedies, ninja martial arts epics, dance movies and tawdry slasher horrors.
Their films frequently horrified critics, but became a staple of video rental stores: with Cannon Films cranking out as many as 50 or so pictures a year at its peak, the company's distinctive logo and self-explanatory film titles (New Year's Evil, Avenging Force, Enter The Ninja) were ubiquitous throughout the 80s and early 90s. The company was eventually brought down by its fast-and-loose approach to film production,...

Exclusive: Producer is planning remakes of Thirst and The Survivor.
Antony I Ginnane, producer of the upcoming remake of Turkey Shoot, which was being promoted at Cannes, is planning to remake two more of his films: Thirst from 1979, and The Survivor from 1981.
Ginnane has credits as either producer or executive producer on 64 films and the first to be remade was director Mark Hartley’s recent Patrick – the original was made in 1978.
“Genre – particularly thrillers, sci-fi and action – never really dates,” said Ginnane, who is aiming to satisfy the 15-25 year old multiplex audience now and those who saw and loved the originals upon release or subsequently.
“Sales agents and international buyers like something that has been previously tested, has cult resonance and is made for a price. In some cases we are selling to the children of the guys who bought the originals.”

Family is power. The original vampire family swore it to each other a thousand years ago. They pledged to remain together, always and forever. Now, centuries have passed, and the bonds of family are broken. Time, tragedy, and hunger for power have torn "The Originals" apart.
Will Elijah truly be able to win this battle with his brother? Will Klaus find happiness by embracing his inner wolf? Will that damn baby ever be born?

In the new version, Vinson plays a nurse who shares a profound connection with the titular character, a comatose patient with telekinetic powers. We recently had the pleasure of connecting with Ms. Vinson, who told us why she loves performing her own stunts, describes becoming an icon for female empowerment, and hints at her role in an upcoming all-female Expendables-style film. Fearnet: You’re becoming known as a very versatile actor who can perform a lot of her own stunts. Which of your stunts did you perform in Patrick? Vinson: Patrick was probably the movie that I have done the most stunts in. We had these incredible rigs that I would get thrown backwards by,...

Peta Sergeant joins "The Originals" tomorrow night, but maybe you already caught her over the weekend in her saucy nurse’s uniform in the remake of 1978’s Aussie cult classic Patrick.
It’s just now available on VOD (unleashed on Friday the 14th), and I do highly recommend it. I never did see the original – but I love the whole idea of a supposedly comatose patient (the titular Patrick, played by Jackson Gallagher) who’s actually sentient… and maybe even evil.
Deftly directed by Mark Hartley (who previously did the well-received doc on Australian horror films Not Quite Hollywood), Patrick (review here) has a great old-school dread to it I just know everyone will want to see (and here's hoping everyone will want to read this interview with the delightful Ms. Sergeant as well)!

Electroshock therapy doesn't cure the comatose in Patrick: Evil Awakens, but it does turn vegetative Patrick (Jason Gallagher) into a telekinetic psychopath intent on stalking nurse Kathy (Sharni Vinson) by looking through her Facebook photos and burning her beaus with grills and overheated cell phones.
Mark Hartley's ludicrous Australian import is set in a Horror 101-grade rotting former convent where Dr. Roget (Charles Dance), with the aid of his daughter, Matron Cassidy (Rachel Griffiths), tries to awaken brain trauma-stricken patients via experiments involving drugs and high-voltage electricity.
In this preposterous place of medicine, Roget does his dirty work in a secret basement lab while Kathy strikes up a rapport with motionless Patrick, who's soon using...

Glenn here again. Last night I saw the new Australian horror flick, Patrick (a remake of the 1978 classic), and relished in seeing Rachel Griffiths again on the big screen. She was, however, very stern as nurse matron who's hiding secrets about the coma patient in room 15.
She will soon be on screens all over the world, albeit briefly, as the inspiration for "Mary Poppins". Again, very stern.
And now I read that the one and only Brenda Chenowith will be starring in an Australian TV movie about embattled former Prime Minister, and first female leader, Julia Gillard. The casting is actually incredibly smart since they both have very tightly pointed facial features. Still, given everything Gillard went through in her tenure you can be guaranteed that she'll be, you guessed it, stern. And knitting. Stern and knitting (Australian readers will understand that).
Griffiths has always excelled at prickliness both on and off the screen?...

Former music video director Mark Hartley came to prominence, at least to me, in 2008 when his wonderful documentary Not Quite Hollywood, which detailed the “Ozploitation” genre, exploded on film blogs and movie sites across the globe. He then followed that up with another documentary, Machete Maidens Unleashed, a look at Filipino genre filmmaking, in 2010. I was fortunate enough to see that doc on the big screen at 2011′s Frightfest Glasgow and now, some two years later Hartley’s feature film debut Patrick, a remake of Richard Franklin’s seminal 1978 shocker, makes it’s UK debut as part of the 2013 Frightfest Halloween All-Nighter.
It’s been some years since I’ve seen Franklin’s original film and it’s Italian lensed “sequel” Patrick Lives Again, but it’s not like anyone can...

If there’s one thing you can say about the Frightfest Halloween All-Nighter it’s that the one-night only event has provided some of the most diverse horror line-ups to be screened theatrically in its meagre seven year existence – and 2013′s line-up is no different, with screenings of the eagerly awaited remake of Aussie horror Patrick, from director Mark Hartley (Not Quite Hollywood, Machete Maidens Unleashed); Soulmate, from actress turned director Axelle Carolyn (Centurion); and the first film from former Guns N’ Roses guitarist Slash’s new production outfit Slasher Films, Nothing Left To Fear. And as if those weren’t enough, this years retro screening is the awesome, and formerly banned in the UK, Mark of the Devil, from director Michael Armstrong.

There seem to be a few distinct categories where horror film remakes are concerned:
A. A remake of an absolute classic that outrages the fans from the word go. Like that Psycho remake or perhaps Evil Dead or Dawn of the Dead, although they're actually pretty bad-ass horror movies, remakes or not. B. A remake of a decent or well-remembered horror movie that makes people realize that, well, movies are a business. Most of the horror remakes fall into this category. Carrie, Fright Night, Amityville, Elm Street, and on and on (semingly) forever. C. A remake of a little-known or cult classic-style horror flick that may annoy some of the old-school purists, but doesn't even register as a remake to 85% of the viewers. That insane remake of The Wicker Man certainly qualifies here, as does the brand-new remake of the 1978 Australian thriller known simply as Patrick. Fortunately the new Patrick...
