Magnificent Maul
A_Kind_Of_CineMagic1 October 2020
This is exactly what Clone Wars at its best should be. Powerfully adding to the overall storyline and mythology, linking prequels together with stronger, deeper exploration of the characters and all done with top standard animation, great action and meaningful, well delivered dialogue.

The return of a full powered Darth Maul is magical and the voice performance of Sam Witwer is tremendous. The character is so cool but had very little depth from The Phantom Menace. He barely spoke and had no background or setup. His duel with the Jedi was awesome and his look, power and style were awesome. This return now allows the character to be used further, adding more meat, more detail, more motivation and adding to the overall story wonderfully. Clancy Brown is perfect as Savage Oppress. A different dynamic from Ventress or Maul. Witwer delivers nuance and class but Brown makes Oppress a raw and brutal force with convincing power.

All the lightsaber action is spot on and the dark underlying themes are impactful. There is also some nice moments of humour and really nicely thought through dialogue that adds sheen.

Ventress and Obi Wan continue to be marvelously performed powerful characters with depth, sparkle and screen presence.

This is magnificent.

My rating: 10/10.

Pure Perfection

Warning: Spoilers
WOW! This episode defines a new mood for the show. Dark and Evil with a huge effect of revenge. Darth Maul was exactly what I imagined. He wanted to show what he still is capable of, and boy did he show it. Slaughter of the Innocent, man that's harsh but also the perfect mood you would think he would be in. Savage Oppress did great at going along with Maul's plans. I can't wait for the 5th and final season with it being a Darth Maul themed season. Maul can change the room of the atmosphere. Sam Witwer did phenomenal, he did so good that I am comparing his acting abilities to that of Heath Ledger as the Joker. I am so glad he was a success. This is gonna be great.

Yeah i dont need to say more than that! Maul waa amazing in this episode! Acts like we want him to! Great animation doing his transformation and that lightsaber duel was pretty good! My favorite part is how Obi Wan actually struggles with the dark side! You can see his internal conflict! Great way to wrap up the season!

The Comeback we have been waiting for

Warning: Spoilers
This is the moment I have been waiting for the whole series.

Darth Maul finally returns and wants to take revenge on Kenobi for destroying his life.

He makes him suffer but loses Kenobi because of Ventres help.

The season ended with an cliffhanger leaving us with Maul and Savage looking out into the galaxy for Kenobi.

Falling Again

Warning: Spoilers
I will agree if you'd say both the animation and edition are great. Yes, they are. I would also agree if you'd spoke me about the brothers characterization and the witch, they are all awesome indeed. I would say aesthetically these last 2 episodes were excellent, but... the force is not with them, and I suspect why.

Because Star Wars got addicted on visual effects, mass audiences, mass money talking and a tendency to megalomania, everything got bright deprecating the essence, the logic, the tragedy, the humanization, the roots of a good mythological and philosophic epic story. It deprecates the natural pace of good narratives and deprecates a good plot, a strong script, for the best money can give in return of numbers. But that's not at all what gives a soul to Star Wars saga.

After a while your satisfaction feels like your bailey after eating a fast food burger, empty. At this kind of family of episodes, narrative development is like a frantic hyperactive turmoil of filled situations. They don't seem real, they seem reflections of our hysterical times of consumption, only reflecting banality. There's no space for subtlety and development.

But, there are indeed excellent episodes in Clone Wars series. Unfortunately the percentage of good old Star Wars' spirit is lower than it should.

Summary: Clancy Brown's Savage Oppress voice characterization is not good. It doesn't give you the depth of a strong villain, it sounds merely as a common badass. Asajj Ventress is much more adequate. The situations present themselves as the most improbable coincidences or the most probable consequences of stupid actions, they stand there just to follow the script and create a sensation of greatness. The compass involving characters is forced transmitting only artificiality, there's no space to introspection neither to give breath for a major introduction of a major character. Everything's fast and fury, but lacking "force" connection.
