Great show but creepy host!
sromme30 August 2022
This is my first time watching this show and as much as I love cooking competition shows, this is a little concerning. The kids that compete on the show are amazing but the "creepy uncle" that hosts the show is just strange and his jokes range from not funny to very inappropriate. You can tell from their reactions that the children (aged 10 and up), that are competing on the show, either think he is unfunny or do not get the weird jokes he smothers them with. He seems to touch a bit too much and try for adult humored humor. Please replace the strange man because the concept is awesome but the strange older man ruins it.

Love it but for one glaring exception...
suego-4929329 November 2022
I really enjoy this show. Rav and Liam are great as judges and with the kids. They also have a nice rapport with each other. The kids are so much fun to watch and they can be quite good bakers.

The one glaring exception is Harry Hill. He is SO over the top and obtrusive and you can see he often makes the kids uncomfortable with his "humor". And this because he is simply not funny (much like Matt Lucas and Noel Fielding on the Great British Baking Show).

I actually hold my remote in my hand and fast forward when I see Harry come into the scene. Those poor kids are busy, anxious and trying to focus and he is distracting them with humor they seem to neither get nor appreciate, though they are polite enough to fake laughter. It so annoying to watch, so I don't but it's also annoying to have to watch this show while holding the remote the whole time.

I am sure he is a nice guy and I truly think he is there to help relax the kids with his banter. Unfortunately it just doesn't work and seems to have the opposite effect and just annoys the viewing audience.

Oh how I miss Mel and Sue! No one they have had since on any of these British baking shows compare to their humor and their ability to balance it with entertaining us while not annoying the bakers (or us).

I gave this a 7 for the kids and Liam and Rav. But without Harry, this would easily be 9 stars from me.

Great Show But Creepy Host
sheridaglover10 September 2022
I watched this with my 9 year old granddaughter. She bakes a lot with her mom and was enthralled, but she cringed when Harry tried to be funny.

There were a few moments when I actually felt Harry was just inappropriate, especially with the older kids.

Liam and Rav are so wonderful. No how badly the kids mess up, they find something to compliment and they do it sincerely.

I find myself crying with the kids selected to go home have to leave. Even when the kids can hold back the tears, I cry for them. But these are amazing bakers and I think they have great futures ahead of them.

Just put Harry out to pasture. He's just creepy.

Kids 10/10. Harry Hill zero.
bmbelko27 August 2022
Get rid of Harry Hill. Please. This show has the potential to be an international blockbuster and Hill just cuts its legs off at the start. It's not fair to the kids. Who owed Hill some huge favor? The producers obviously used the GBBO format as a venue for Hill's sagging career, hoping to rejuvenate it. It's excruciating to watch his three year old slapstick antics and the 9-14 year olds struggling to just ignore him. When a 9 year old tells him, "Please stop. I'm busy here", he really needs to be replaced mid-season. Get a fun substitute teacher who understands children and is a responsible adult, too.

Kids are great, hosts are annoying
KittyKatGrandma27 October 2022
I love the great British baking show and the Junior Baking show. The junior bothers me a bit. Too big of an age difference between kids. No way is it fair to have a 9 year old against a fifteen year old. I will throw in I can not stand those idiots that run around annoying the contestants in both programs. What is the point? None of them are funny. I love the judges, so kind to the bakers! Get rid of these jerks who just annoy the bakers! Especially the children who are trying to concentrate! I am watching this show now and Harry whoever is a pain in the neck. He needs to go away just like those other two jerks on the British baking show. What is their purpose?

Fire Harry Hill! Give the Kids More Time, Limit Age Ranges
gsmellis-2389622 June 2023
I agree with so many of the reviews that Harry Hill must go!! He is distracting, inappropriate and distracting to the kids. The reviews that like him just don't get it. To say he relaxes the kids and make them laugh?? I don't know what show they are watching as the kids laughter is only polite and they basically want him to leave. And to say that Harry haters must be American and don't get the humor? Not true. I am American and watch mostly British shows (Britbox, Acorn TV) and love the humor and the writing which is sooo much better than most American shows--so don't tell me that I don't get British humor. Just because Harry is an established comedian, doesn't mean he is good in all venues. Children is NOT his thing. I agree with the remote thing as my wife and I watch with our remotes and mute him whenever he talks. Agreed to with the time element. Giving kids an hour in the technical challenges is ridiculous. What is wrong with 90 mins to 2 hrs? Also, there is so much growth in kids that there should be a 9-11 category and a 12-14 category (or something like that). Lastly, Rav & Liam are great. Even when the results are essentially a disaster, they always find something encouraging to say. I've seen contestants almost in tears that smile when they say something so kind. Liam did make it to week 8 when he was on GBBO and finished 5th. And to the reviewer who mentioned presenters Liam and Arab---have the decency to learn her name. It's Rav.

More Inspirational than Educational
BabelAlexandria27 March 2023
Though it could have been both! We hadn't watched a contest show before, and this one seemed like the logical choice (season 6 is the only one currently available on Netflix). It was lots of fun for me, my 10-year old daughter, and my 8-year old son, who really protested at first, but soon became deeply fascinated with it. The technical and creative challenges were really enjoyable in that they showed the nearly infinite variety of baking that is possible, and the kids who participated were bold, creative, and talented in their designs and products. It was always fun to see the finished baked goods, and to hear the judges evaluate their presentation and taste. I was a little surprised to see that the filming of the baking itself does not concentrate on the actual process, and gives no general tips or background information. So after watching the show, one wants to bake like these talented kids, but has not learned anything about how to do that. Another weird thing is that the contestants ranged in age from 10-15, and the first kids to get kicked off were the youngest ones, while the most skilled were the oldest--they probably should have stuck to a 13-15 age range. Finally, my kiddos were a bit puzzled by anglicisms such as the shameless overuse of the word "biscuit" and the mysterious layered monstrosity known as a "trifle", but this low-key intro to standard British English was another positive aspect of the show for them.

Solid GBBO Spin-off
ItsJustSlater23 October 2022
Living in America where I couldn't watch the first several seasons I had to wait for it to show up on Netflix starting with season 6. I'm a huge GBBO fan and this follows nearly the same formula. It definitely has a more kid vibe to it and as such I have a harder time getting invested in the show. I still find it quite enjoyable and like how they focus a little more on educating instead of just judging.

They have a pretty wide age range competing against each other, from ages 9 to 15 years old. That's a big spread. Nevertheless, some of those younger kids can really hold their own. It's hilarious to hear them reference things like "When I was younger...". You'd think the show would put some step stools by the fridges so the kids wouldn't spill trying to put stuff in the freezer. But kids are firm believers in the 5 to 10 second rules, so it doesn't slow them down.

All the reviewers hating on Harry Hill must be Americans as well. I'm guessing they don't realize Mr. Hill is an established British comedian. Americans are quick to judge and slow to educate themselves. They don't even realize the big collars are part of his schtick and instead just say he must have an Elvis complex. It's sad. He does well entertaining and interacting with the kids. When they're stressed out he can usually get them to laugh and relax a little. There's no creepiness whatsoever. Some of his jokes go over the kid's heads but so do lots of jokes in Pixar films, it isn't just kids watching the show after all.

Rav makes a great judge, though I admit I'd rather have Paul and Prue. I don't understand how or why Liam is a judge though. He didn't even make it to the final in the GBBO season where he competed. Maybe those who can't do teach?

Bottom line, it's a good show and it's great to see kids who are competing with each other so willing to lend their fellow competitor a hand.

Harry Hill ruins this show
Codylivengood9 October 2022
The show is great, except for Harry Hill. He's not funny and constantly makes jokes that are inappropriate and go over the kids heads. He's terrible with children, especially when they're upset. I wish he would go away.

The judges are good. The kids ages vary a lot, which can give the younger ones an unfair disadvantage. It's fun to watch them creates disasters. They have very different personalities. There are challenges where they are given not enough time, so everyone does badly and no one is happy with what they've made, but it's not entirely their fault. Overall, it's a pretty good show and I kinda like it.

Such a feel-good show!
mooreg-341706 September 2022
Love watching these kids just be themselves. It's so refreshing and adults can learn a lot from them. You'll laugh (a lot) and probably get choked up when it comes time to send one of them home. They help each other and root for each other. I don't get the hate for Harry Hill. I have never seen him in anything else but I think he does a fine job as host. Some of his jokes are corny but he interacts well with the kids and does a great job comforting them when they get distraught (without being creepy). If you want to feel good I highly recommend this show. Oh, Liam and Arab are amazing as judges as well.

Harry Hill is terrible and annoying
briansrowe30 September 2022
The kids are funny and clever, the host is just awful. Just about anyone would be better. One kid joked that he was going to be the presenter next year, and that would be a MUCH better show. I think the kids only laugh at what Harry does and days because they're uncomfortable and don't understand. If Harry has writers, they should be fired too. Most of the jokes don't even register with the kids... or they do understand and just think it's too dumb to laugh. It's pretty hilarious when the kids put Harry down though. It's also super annoying that he introduces the judges the exact same way every time. He's not amusing to adults. He's not amusing to kids. Therefore he's completely making a decent show unnecessarily annoying. Just a horrible choice. He must have blackmail on a producer.

Harry Hill
roobarb-410131 February 2023
Why do people dislike Harry Hill he is brilliant on this show and keeps a connection between the kids and the adult watching, it's so funny.

The kids are brilliant both as cooks and the way they give Harry looks. This is such a better show than the adult version.

The presenters are also really honest without being hurtful and rude.

This is the best bake off ever, why don't other people see this I don't understand all the negativity about Harry is great with the kids and very funny. The kids are quite posh and very intelligent but that kind of makes it better, please put this show on during prime time.

Harry Hill is horrific - Baking Challenges too difficult
jimdeford14 November 2022
Harry Hill is a horrific host. He is not funny AT ALL and says some extremely inappropriate things around the children. Here in the US some of the things I have heard him say would have him banned permanently!

There should be two versions of this series. One for younger kids and one for older kids. In addition, some of the challenges are so incredibly difficult that the kids are left disillusioned, visibly depressed and their confidence smashed. Many of these challenges would be difficult for professional chefs!!!

Give them appropriate challenges they can be successful at. It's painful to watch many of them fail so miserably. But the ONE THING that must be changed is Harry Hill. His "humor" is not. Not funny and not appropriate for children. He's very creepy. VERY creepy. I would not allow this man ever around my children. EVER. I fast-forward when he opens his mouth. Otherwise this show would get 10 stars!

Harry Hill

Get rid of Harry Hill He is completely inappropriate with the children making comments about being drunk also when one of the children bumped him he said "it's a good thing I've completed my family"!

He's not funny, creepy and his comments are not child friendly!!

Why is he even on this show?

The children are wonderful and some of the talent exceptional . Wonderful program, great seeing the children express themselves!

Presenters poor, boring, not particularly encouraging and seem to have no idea what they are talking about!!!

As I say let Harry Hill go! He's a complete irritant Just an awful Inappropriate.

Harry Hill is a wickedly brilliant presenter!!!!!
galuwatra17 February 2023
My husband is the baker in the family, but I really enjoyed watching the Junior I love the road British bake off. When I saw the junior back off was on Netflix , I was extremely pleased to see that Harry Hill, one of my all time favorite comedians, was the host. He is absolutely brilliant and hilarious and does a great job of both, comforting the children and keeping the show fun for adults.

As always, the setting is picturesque, the challenges are beyond difficult, and the children do an amazing job for their ages. I laughed so much at Harry Hill that I literally needed to "rewind" the programmer to hear what I'd missed.

Bake Off Lite. Harry Hill brilliant.
lookslikestevied28 September 2022
Firstly, if you like GBBO, you'll enjoy Junior. It's a kind of 'lite' version of the adult show.

Secondly, Harry Hill is perfect for this. If you're not familiar with him as a comedian, or his style, then I suppose it takes time to warm to him. The same thing happened when Noel and Matt started presenting GBBO. He is a little childish, silly and alternative in humour. Perfect! The kids find him amusing and I genuinely laugh out loud at times. He's done three seasons so must be doing something right. A 'creep'? Pathetic. Shouldn't be allowed to post comments like that. In summary, a fun bake off spinoff, kids are a joy, and presenters great too.

the Show gets a 9, Harry Hill gets a zero
theshiptons15 January 2024
We love this show, the kids are such fresh and lively little people. They do things that I would struggle to do in cooking. They show great support for each other's work, and not one is unlikeable. I gave this a 9 simply for one reason, and it's obvious here in the reviews, and if you watch the show. Harry Hill, where did he come from? He is not funny on any level. I don't get half the jokes and the ones I get make me wince. We have children here, and he is cracking off stuff you might drag out at a boozy night at the pub. While these are children here, they are by no means stupid, and now we are halfway through the show's first batch; they have seen through his behavior, and some now just seem to ignore him. Harry, if you read reviews, you are borderline creepy, and I don't know why; apparently, you are married with 3 kids yourself. Stop it. You are really making something quite sweet into a horrible chore to watch.

Kids are great but the cohost is awful
herblady-1668014 September 2022
Harry is so obnoxious! His humor is stupid! I find him so annoying that I will not watch more than this one season. Even the kids seem annoyed with him. He acts like a 4 year old. I don't mind joking around, but he just says such stupid things! The main 2 hosts are great. I think their names are Liam and Rav. They present excellent challenges that are appropriate to the skill level of the bakers. They also seem very fair in picking star bakers and those that have to go home. The time allotment seems a little short, maybe add 30 min to each challenge? I don't know how much more there is to say...

Harry Hill should be fired
Harry Hill makes this show difficult to watch. His inane humor is either lost on the kids or like me they just seem to think he is stupid. His brand of humor appeals to some, as I found there reviews on here that said they liked him. That was 3 reviews out of at least a dozen that like me, dislike him intensely. Not sure who in the casting department thought or still think he is an asset for the show. I can see someone making the casting mistake initially, but it should have been quickly recognized that he wasn't working out. Just watch the kids, they don't respond well to him and I've heard a couple ask him to "go away". I'm sure this isn't the only location/site where the show's producers will have read or heard the mostly negative feedback. Perhaps he is someone's uncle, nephew or he has incriminating photos of someone. Please replace this twit now!

Nice way to pass the time away
louispeter-2305723 August 2022
Enjoyed watched these kids bake; some showed real talent but probably coached and rehearsed by the parents. The baking tent must have been a heck of a mess after each bake session. The hosts were kind and patient and showed their professionalism. Harry Hill was a bit over the top with his antics and what was with those weird, high shirt collars. Maybe an Elvis complex????

Great idea ruined by Harry Hill
robinabas215 June 2022
Harry Hill is one of those characters that seems to be all over British TV yet displays no talent whatsoever, his snug and unfunny presenting on this show is utterly baffling, are the bosses on channel 4 not heard about what he did to Stars in their eyes? He's just terribly unsuitable for a kids baking programme, for me he ruins the whole production.. Its like inviting your weird creepy uncle to present a kids TV show... Urgh..

Harry is Cringeworthy, beyond inappropriate
tyrpak3 September 2023
Episode 4, Season 7, 27:38 in, Harry Hill makes a disparaging remark that goes far beyond the pale. It left me shocked and feeling sick. I fully expected him to be fired after that, but I see he's part of season 8. Is the director oblivious? The producers? Why was that "joke" allowed to stand? It's poison.

I gave the show 6 stars because of Harry Hill.

I'm a big fan of all the British Bake off shows...and I watch all of them. In this version, the kids are amazing bakers, the hosts are kind and helpful, and the children help each other. In this divided world we need more kindness, not mean and stupid jokes.

Please find Liam something else to do
chrisxhood18 February 2023
This is such a fun concept, but it's pitched all wrong.

AThe kids are the absolute stars here, and I'm going to buck the trend of other reviewers and say Harry Hill's often really good in the role, mainly when he's playing the straight adult communicating with kids and giving knowing looks to the adults watching.

The worst part of the show is Liam Charles. He's appalling. He's qualified to host by being a failed but well liked former contestant, and that's it. But he tries to be cool and childish at the same time, and it doesn't work. Anyone who works with kids knows that kids like adults, not adults who try to be cool and act like kids. There are many other former contestants who would do a better job, but I guess he provides vital diversity (though the choice of kids does that already). He doesn't provide any actual expertise, and should be hosting something like Blue Peter or CBeebies. Rav, on the other hand, is very good.

Also the show producers need to realise that most people watching this are adults, not kids - and it would be just as popular with kids without the silly cutaways. That said, it's far more mature than the regular bake-off, which has just become moronic in recent years.

All that said, watch it for the kids, Rav and Harry Hill's finer moments.

Junior Bake off 2023
dozierkim-204288 May 2023
I think the show is good and means well and you never want to speak of kids not doing well because their efforts whicg is excellent. However some of these kids are being presentented as totally dirty, unclean bakers and bakers are NEVER that disgustingly dirty, their hands , face..one kid looked like flour was on his face, entire face on purpose...and his apron was covered with chocolate a d the dessert!that are bad like really really bad, so glad he fi ally went home. I could name them but never want to discourage their efforts. Cooking was so unsanitary looking at the kids and their over staged mess made me want to gag just thinking about eating the food t they created. I know this is TV and you all are trying to have a lot of diversity. So unfair to the other young bakers.

There should be some kind if standard even with the young people. 916 473 3886

Love Rav and Liam but GET RID OF HARRY PLEASE
juliebaker-567787 May 2023
Loved watching all of these bake offs throughout the years but OMG who added Harry Hill as the host? Horrible! He is so annoying. I skip past him on every episode just so I can complete the show. I've never given a review like this before but I am so aggravated from just watching him and how idiotic he acts! I feel sorry for Rav, Liam, and those adorable kids competing! PLEASE RETIRE HIM from this show. I would not recommend anyone to watch simply because he is on it!!! Meanwhile in order to see who wins I have to fast forward every TIME he makes some stupid joke or tries to be funny. HE IS NOT FUNNY!
