This film is ok, the actor who plays Matilda is very good. Emma Thompson is excellent as Miss Trunchball and Matilda's father and Miss Honey also do a great job. The dance routines are expertly done by all the young people, particularly Red Beret girl and Bruce and most of the songs from the original West End production are there. The story is very dark in places and there are some frightening scenes for young children. It's worth a watch if you like the show and for some of the performances however I wouldn't sit through the whole thing again and I love musicals.
Try it but I would recommend seeing the live performance more.

There are so many scenes of goodness that overlap the negative and I have a 7, 10 & 12 yo. They ALL love it as much as we do and are now watching it for the 5th time. We love the soundtrack, the acting, the dancing, the storyline. Just superb. Each of the main characters really got into the depth of their roles. I felt like I was watching a real musical. We don't have the money or time to go to a real musical but this will do. I'm sure we will watch it for many more days to come. The evil mom and dad are exceptional as well. Whoever was in the casting position did a grand job. The song that were written also top notch. I only cried once. Because one scene when she wants all the noise to be quiet got to me. If you've ever lived in a yelling screaming household you'll instantly understand. It's beautiful and healing.

I wouldn't even run this in the background while cleaning my toilet. It's so bad that you will regret even 5 minutes of watching this. The characters have no connection with reality, especially the principal and Matilda herself. Why would you expose children to something like this? It would be considered cruelty.
We, the adults, have the power over the remote. Children don't! We should keep them away from this. We can choose to stay away from this kind of production. It's aimed so low I can't help myself asking how much it costs to produce an inept movie. But our kids don't!
So be aware of the content. It's toxic!
