J.J !!! YOU GO
mounabenjazia9710 April 2020
Warning: Spoilers
This might not be one of the best or worst episodes of this seasons, but it has some interesting shifts regarding characters development. thus, i have some takes on it

for starters, The teen party scene is really tired. A big show like CM shouldn't play on clichés to establish horror, especially, when the scene adds nothing to to the plot. in fact, when the viewer predict what's going to happen next, the terror element becomes weak and somehow eye rolling worthy

Another thing is the ''homosexuality plot", i thought that was really interesting, at first, the show prepare us to think about sexual orientation related crimes; which is really intriguing since it has never been used before in the show. when they eliminated that possibility, things started to become more boring and predictable At last, this episode really palyed a huge part in character development. which is fun. the show usually ignore the characters background and it doesn't give us enough to dive in their out of work life. however, i think that Hotchner's love interest doesn't quit suit him. the girl is way too bubbly for him, she doesn't fit him quit well. but i guess opposutes attract lol. then the J.J scene, that was a major addition in jj's character, u can see how much she developed from the earlier seasons and im really living for it .. U GO GIRL

note : i didn't really feel bad for the unsub's best friend death, i thought he kinda deserved it . i must be a sociopath lol

We missed you, JJ

I wont give any spoilers, but JJ is a bad ass and I'm so happy she was brought back. The action she faced and her friendship with Reid is touched on and I love it.

The story was an interesting one, albeit not the best they've ever done, but it was watchable.

Very mixed feelings on this episode.
TheLittleSongbird3 November 2016
Season 7 has been an inconsistent season like most of the seasons from Season 6. With the worst episodes of the season, there are worse in the show's history but they are still lesser efforts.

With Season 7, there are some great episodes. Especially "Foundation", which bowled me over as to how good it was that it was difficult to believe that it was from a late 'Criminal Minds' season. There are also mediocre at best episodes, such as "I Love You Tommy Brown", which just made me feel uncomfortable and also really disliked Morgan and Garcia in the episode, and the strange and ridiculous "There's No Place Like Home".

"Closing Time" as far as Season 7 episodes go is somewhat middle of the road and feelings were very mixed. Not an awful episode (certainly nowhere near low-point category), but not a great one.

There are obvious good things here. "Closing Time", as pretty much always from 'Criminal Minds', looks great, very stylishly and atmospherically shot with an appropriate amount of grit in the production values in general. The music is both haunting and melancholic, without being intrusive, inappropriate or too much of one mood.

As for the case itself, it's pretty intriguing, with the right amount of tension and suspense, some decent profiling (not full of it but not neglected) and with a creepy unsub. Reid has a few nice moments, but should have been in the episode more. The acting is good too.

For all these good things, there were elements that were lacking, which were to do with a couple of badly done scenes and not enough little character moments in the team that one looks out for. Some may be excited by JJ's climactic fight scene, personally thought the excitement despite AJ Cook's valiant efforts was diminished by the combat being awkwardly choreographed and disorganised in editing, also feel JJ is too out of character when in action when she's much more likable as a liaison officer. The opening scene is draggy, forced and not particularly well acted.

Hotch's new romantic relationship could have brought some heart to the episode, if Bellamy Young as his new love interest wasn't such a dull actress, also although it is nice to see Hotch happy after so long the relationship just feels a little too hasty. Morgan is basically in the background, so much so that you question the point of him being there or his purpose in the episode.

Overall, very mixed on the episode. Not 'Criminal Minds' at its best, although there's much worse in the show too. 5/10 Bethany Cox

Not a great episode

Warning: Spoilers
Although it's always fun watching JJ be a bad*ss, the episode as a whole was not very entertaining. I didn't care about anyone in the episode. The bad guy was screwed over by his cheating wife, but then started random killing people, so instead of coming across as sympathetic, he was just pathetic. The wife was a cheater who let a man raise a son she knew wasn't his. Story aside, some of the acting was just terrible. Mainly, the son. The last 10 minutes of episode, the son's acting was some of the worst I have ever seen in a non b-movie. Just look at his facial expression when he's on the ground after getting hit in the head. It's comically bad. All in all, I could gladly skip this episode next rewatch and not care.
