I really enjoyed the performance of Tom Pelphrey as the NYPD Auxiliary Officer who is really torn between loyalty to his uncle Tom Mardrossian who raised him and his desire to be a real cop eventually. As this is a show about a family with that tradition I think you can imagine how this would come out.
Mardrossian stops by early in the morning to his uncle's diner and walks into a bad situation. He's spotted fleeing and of course he's taken for a real policeman. It's the investigation of Donnie Wahlberg and Jennifer Esposito that reveals the extent of a lot of crooked activity that the uncle is involved in. And the uncle does not believe loyalty is a 2 way street.
The side plots involve Tom Selleck clashing with the mayor's office on a new recruitment campaign and Will Estes actually house painting to help pay off that law school student loan. A position a few million young Americans are in as I write this. What a Harvard law degree will get you.
A nice story especially with Wahlberg convincing Pelphrey to both do the right thing and showing him what the right thing is.
