Life-altering stuff
Mr-Fusion30 January 2017
Each pair of partners has their storyline - Cooper and Tang go out of their way to help a homeless veteran, Sammy has to foot the bill for a dog's surgery - but this is mostly about Lydia, who's dealing with the heavy news of pregnancy. And 'Identity' becomes an examination of the awesome responsibility of having a child (as a single parent), but also the unexpected ways in which being a parent drastically changes your worldview. Her case this week involves a mother who's taking the rap for murder just to protect her troubled teen. That, in and of itself, isn't all that nuanced, but Regina King honestly takes you through the mental process as she contemplates keeping this child. It's the performances here that really makes this work (which, as usual, can be credited to King).

It's not the first time pregnancy has been brought up on this show (and Sammy didn't go through any self-analysis on the matter), but this is a great way for a hardened detective like Adams to take a look at her life, not to mention another way for her to bond with her partner, who knew she was pregnant before even she did.
