Mash the muggle
sinahaase-960-74349723 June 2023
Everyone has their type of animes they tend to enjoy most and mashle is definitely my type. It's got a little bit of everything- silly humor, protagonist with good morals, the entourage that has every personality type, evil selfish villains, and a unique story driven by a simple but heart-felt plot. Mash has no magical abilities and yet to go back to his peaceful life with his adopted father in the woods, he needs to obtain the highest achievement of becoming a Visionary in a school of magic. I really hate comparing animes cuz I really think they each have their own uniqueness to them but if I had to, I would say Mashle is a mix between one punch man and a spoof of Harry Potter. Even that itself doesn't sum half of it up. It has its own story so I would definitely recommend ppl watch it for themselves but at least watch 5 episodes before coming to your own conclusions. It starts out decently but gets pretty good a few episodes in. I myself am fully invested. 8/10.

Much better than at first sight
J_critics31 May 2023
At first glance, you think it's another anime where you have to defeat someone, but after watching the first episodes, you understand that it's something new.

In summary, it's about a boy who has no magical abilities, but instead he is very strong. The protagonist is not very smart (nicely expressed) and is forced to go to a magic school to become the best mage, without magic skills.

The genre is comedy, adventure and fantasy. The jokes are like in "Onepunchman". The story is not perfect and is often silly but it fits the story quite well.

I advise you to watch it if you like "Onepunchman" or "Mob psycho 100".

Harry Potter of Harry Potter was a magicless meathead
kayleigh-dempsey15 August 2023
This anime is funny and entertaining and basically a parade of Harry Potter if it was an anime. From Quidditch to Draco Malfoy, it's basically mocking the entire magic school genre, with a main character with no magic, but instead of being an angsty, poor unfortunate outcast, he's a musclehead whose so dense he doesn't realise half the things happening around him, and the scenarios he ends up in because of it are simple hilarious.

I'd recommend it, purely on its comedy chops, but the animation and voice acting are nothing to sneeze at either. I've only watched the dub, but the voice acting is also solid.

I hope we get a 2nd season. I had a blast.

Hajime Komoto IS BACK!!!
nightringer-768403 October 2023
Sensei Hajime Komoto of the infamous One Punch Man and Mob Psycho 100 is a new parodic anime (and manga) titled Mashle (aka Muscle).

Mashle is mostly a parody of Harry Potter and the Wizarding World. Mashle is a boy without any talent in magic nor any hint of magical skill. From his very young age, he developed a regiment of exercises around his muscle strength that by his teenage years, Mashle was far more powerful than any normal man.

Season 1 was the adventure of Mashle trying to survive wizard school of school bullies, his way. Be prepared for unexpected burst of laughs and unexpected expectations humor.

At it's best when it's a parody
Review for Season 1:

This show didn't quite work for me towards the end.

It's at its best when it's trying to be a parody of a magic anime. Whenever it does so, it's very funny because of the voice acting and A1 Pictures' editing. The plot setup itself is obviously funny.

But it's at its worst when it tries to be a serious action shounen, using the most mediocre shounen tropes out there. For instance, Mash's character was supposed to be funny because he was very dense yet ridiculously strong. But towards the end he sort of changed his enemies into good characters (another shounen trope) and it just made no sense to me.

In the end, I was looking forward to a magic parody anime, instead of just another action shounen (this plotline just doesn't fit a serious shounen story). I'll still watch season 2 but I hope I get to see the parody moments a lot more.

Edit: Enjoyed it more on a re-watch once I knew what's coming.

Review for Season 2:

Mashle picks up from right where it left off and everyone's favourite fitness freak is back! He has returned to entertain us by outsmarting magic in all different, hilarious ways.

Season 2 is more of the same and I definitely did enjoy it plenty. Just like Mash, it's offbeat and stylishly funny. I'm actually very impressed by A1 Pictures' work for this anime because the animation was very good. And I love the editing because it makes this anime even more hilarious. The soundtrack is again great and there were some new tracks this time that I admired.

The friendship between the main characters is wholesome. Finn Ames actually gets some moments to shine this time and I like his character more after Season 2.

But whenever Mashle becomes serious and it goes into some sad flashback or a serious shounen action scene, it loses me completely. Because this is a parody setting and it doesn't fit at all. Whenever Mash arrives and does Mash things, that's where this show regains my attention.

Overall though, this is another fun season. This is definitely a unique and entertaining comedy. Hopefully we'll get a Season 3.

A Fun and Entertaining Shonen Anime with a Unique Twist
ranadeavadhut3 July 2023
The series follows Mash Burnedead, a young boy who possesses no magical abilities in a world where magic is everything. Despite this, Mash dreams of attending Magic High School, where he can learn to become a Wizard.

The anime is a fun and lighthearted take on the shonen genre. Mash is a lovable protagonist who is always eager to fight for what he believes in. He is also incredibly strong, which makes for some exciting fight scenes. The supporting cast is also enjoyable, with characters like Lance, Dot, and Merle providing plenty of laughs.

The animation in Mashle: Magic and Muscles is well-done, with fluid fight scenes and detailed character designs. The music is also catchy and upbeat. Overall, the anime is a fun and enjoyable watch that is sure to please fans of the shonen genre.

However, the anime does have some flaws. The pacing can be a bit slow at times, and the story can be predictable. Additionally, some of the jokes fall flat.

Overall, Mashle: Magic and Muscles is a 7/10 anime. It is a fun and lighthearted show with a likable protagonist and some exciting fight scenes. However, the pacing can be slow at times, and the story can be predictable.

Here are some pros and cons of the anime:

Pros:

Fun and lighthearted shonen anime

Lovable protagonist

Exciting fight scenes

Well-done animation

Catchy music

Cons:

Pacing can be slow at times

Story can be predictable

Some jokes fall flat

Overall, Mashle: Magic and Muscles is a solid anime that is sure to please fans of the shonen genre. If you are looking for a fun and lighthearted show with a bit of action, then I would recommend checking it out.

Funniest Anime I've ever watched!
Abraham259724 July 2023
Mashle isn't what I expected! This is the funniest anime I have ever watched. Mashle is not only funny but delivers on the action and the story too. Mash is one of the most likeable MCs I've ever seen in an anime. If you like One Punch Man, you'll definitely get a kick out of this one! I also don't find any of the side characters boring or annoying, which is kind of a surprise because there's always this one side character which I dislike even on my favourite animes. The only problem I have with Mashle is that Mash kinda befriends everyone he faces as an opponent at the end of their fights. Maybe this is intentional, but that is probably the only thing I kind of dislike about this show.

The stage is "Harry Potter" and the character is "One Punch Man"
sdjmsfd2 October 2023
Those who see this work will first see the "Harry Potter" work. To that extent, the stage of this work was taken directly from the stage of "Harry Potter." Sports, hats, capes, etc. That are given out during admission! This work very kindly tells us all about the characters' past and motivations through dialogue. There is no character explanation or directing, just "Ah!" "That person is that famous so-and-so." Ah... The only thing expected from the video production is action. The main character is the setting of the main story of "One Punch Man." The main character is so strong and dull that we just get away with it. So I have no expectations at all. It is a character from the "Harry Potter" stage and "One Punch Man," but there is something really disappointing about it. The directing is just action and the dialogue is just setting up the characters. If it had been directed a little more deeply, it would have been 8 points.

Gives much motivation and entertainment.
dushmarupasinghe2 July 2023
Mashel, magic and muscles is about a boy who cannot use magic in a magical world.though out the story it goes like how a boy who cannot use magic over come all the magical attacks and chores with his own abilities. It's very motivational to live in real world.

While it give a good story with motivation, i find this anime is really funny. Thorough out 12episode, not at least one episode that didn't give me laugh. All those expressions , mash's and other characters behaviors are really funny and i really enjoyed all of them. Not boring a bit and really really entertaining.

It's very inspiring how mash make friends thorugh his good deeds.

This anime gives a relaxing vibe, laugh and motivation all in one. So i would definitely recommend to watch. Waiting for season 2 to come soon. Love mashel.

They could have done it better if:
hajimearata5 July 2023
If they didn't talk a lot when fighting.

If they didn't have to explain every single magic attack when fighting.

If they didn't have to explain every character's backstory when fighting.

If every fight plots are done better, in every fight there's always, the MC friends and the MC: 1. Always meet a villain or people that are stronger than them 2. When fighting, at first they're losing, but somehow in the middle they're winning, but at the end they're lose, but after that they magically won (either by the help of the MC or another strong character and of course more backstory, talking, etc)

The NPC should just became a NPC, just focus on the MC, they told a lot about other characters and villain backstory, but they didn't tell much about the MC backstory.

And on a lot of scene they try really hard to make it a comedy, but unfortunately I don't find it funny at all, instead it's cringe.

They wasted so many minutes on the series for unimportant things, they could have done it better.

Funny as Hell
extraplay-6183821 September 2023
Do not listen to the Naysayers - this is really funny - laugh out loud funny: This is a world of magic.

This is a world in which magic is casually used by everyone.

In a deep, dark forest in this world of magic, there is a boy who is singlemindedly working out.

His name is Mash Burnedead, and he has a secret. He can't use magic.

All he wanted was to live a quiet life with his family, but people suddenly start trying to kill him one day and he somehow finds himself enrolled in Magic School. There, he sets his sights on becoming a "Divine Visionary," the elite of the elite.

Will his ripped muscles work against the best and brightest of the wizarding world?

The curtain rises on this off-kilter magical fantasy in which the power of being jacked crushes any spell!

Borderline plagiarism
musicista-3801111 November 2023
Perhaps my headline is misleading. This looks like full on plagiarism!

I've just watched the first two episodes and I could see Harry Potter written all over it.

The design of the castle, the school robes, even some of the characters are like copy-paste! There's a headmaster who looks uncannily like Dumbledore and is even dressed up accordingly, and a magic teacher who looks suspiciously like McGonagall. How did they get away with this? Magic lawyers? Seriously, one wonders!

Obviously there are differences, as the main character is (as far as I can tell at this point) a muggle (non magic person) who possesses superhuman strength and stamina and an incredibly naïve mind.

There's also a whole lot of hyperbolic silliness, which gives this series a quite distinctive flavour.

What can I say, I'll watch a few more episodes to decide whether to keep watching or stop and forget it.

Bad ripoff of black clover
aggie_bear-255-6584522 January 2024
Could hardly make it through first episode. Really stupid dialog and the animation is awful. Premise is basically the same as Black Clover. World where everyone has magic but this one guy who is instead really strong. He is outcast because he has no magic and has to prove himself. However he is really stupid. Doesn't even know how to open a door and is always craving cream puffs. I am not sure why crunch roll recommended this one to me but I will not be wasting any. Ore time on it when there are much better shows out there!

I see that many people are giving it high ratings and I just don't understand why. If you enjoy it, great....but yikes!

This goes hard
irzammkhan16 January 2024
The anime goes hard as he**! It's just perfect. It's like a crossover of action with comedy and hell does this recipe work. Even the soundtrack is bomb. I have never seen anime that is this cool. It's like a dream come true. It's so much better than Isekai's and the like. It doesn't overdo the action nor the comedy, it's just the perfect mix. The story is unique and the opening is just fire! The opening of season 2 is so good, I had to add it to my playlist. It even beats the op of Chainsaw man. I don't think I'll see any anime in my life that does the same things as this anime but better. They can copy the story but they'll fail in making it as cool as this.

Refreshing comedic take on a classic underdog story that stands out in the anime realm!
elfieprimaputra27 February 2024
Set in a world where magic reigns supreme, Mash Vandead, a young man devoid of any magical abilities, relies solely on his incredible physical strength to navigate through challenges.

What sets this anime apart is its ingenious blend of magic and brawn, offering a unique twist on the traditional magic-based narratives. Mash's unwavering determination and sheer might make him a compelling protagonist, challenging the status quo and defying expectations at every turn.

The series masterfully balances humor, action, and character development, creating a captivating viewing experience.

Never short of comedic moments - mostly of Mash's endearing quirks - and an engaging storyline, "Magic and Muscles" proves to be a standout gem in the anime landscape, showcasing the power of resilience and inner strength in a world dominated by magic.

Container plus
Sh31kh_H0kv513 September 2023
Like this anime just copied magic loathing movies and complied it in different ways to make this anime, it wasn't annoying but there's something else like that question was the time spent worth it in the first place, making anime I guess does takes a lot and lots more but sometimes avoiding can save a lot of things now it's like I just need to see how this one ends despite the fact that I know how all the things would play out even so I just got too like I said not annoying but something else. Nothing Inspiring though cause like any other anime due to comparison have something to give but this one has nothing.

2024anime-008(4/7/2024)
iijpcaus16 April 2024
Season 2 2024anime-008(4/7/2024) No matter how serious the plot becomes, this work never forgets to throw in a gag. Even the villains end up becoming endearing after being unreasonably defeated by Mash, which is quite mysterious. It seems that the charm of the other characters is also enhanced due to the existence of a 'bug' character like Mash. The final battle was intensely fought, and it unusually had fewer comedic elements (?), making it more enjoyable for those who are not fans of the gag elements than the first season. It seems that the original work has recently concluded, so I think the anime will end after a few more seasons, but I look forward to its continued production.

Unique Premise, but overall predictable plot
tyford-4238622 March 2024
Overall the anime is lighthearted and humorous with clear inspirations from Harry Potter in terms of world building and One punch man with the main character.

Lets start with the positives, the main character while strong is very humble and sticks to his goal throughout the show (shonen) and is extremely likeable. His personality is goofy and he is constantly underestimated by anyone who meets him. The magic system put in place in the world is unique and I'm truly thrilled seeing new characters since everyone in the world has their own unique magic. Furthermore the harry potter spoofs throughout the show are not only nostalgic but have their own unique twists at times which keeps you from truly knowing everything about the world. Finally, while the MC doesn't face any dire consequences having no magic, the weight of this taboo is shown well with the abuse, manipulation, and sometimes attempted murder of side characters by their loved ones due to the unofficial but official ruling of the world, magic potential and aptitude equals your worth of being in this world, with those without those potentials being seen as better off dead.

Although the world and politics set into it are very unique, the plot and tropes set throughout the anime feel repetitive as seen in other shonen's or just reused sequences from earlier episodes. As I neared the halfway of the first season, I was reminded of the copying homework meme "make sure to change it up a bit", and felt the fight sequences and overall plot, being repetitive and predictable, (although each opponent having a unique magic does help off set this, it is the same process and result regardless).

Having watched other animes done by the same author, I'd definitely recommend the show to those, satisfied or thrilled with One Punch Man, overly predictable with the MC or other Over Powered Side characters saving the day with no consequences for the main cast, but lacking the character depth, potential risk, and character development shown in Mob Psycho.

The show overall is equivalent to junk food, easy to get down and tasty to start off, but lacking sustenance the longer you partake in the show to the point you might drop off midway looking for a real meal. (Although we all do need snacks at times so I'd still give the show a passing recommendation :) )

Muscles vs. Magic
Mysterygeneration8 April 2024
Parody anime has a mixed bag of results. Tropes from other anime or live-action settings are parodied, but to truly stand out, a work of humor must constantly be spot-on; sadly, this one fell short consistently. It is plainly a spoof of magic schools such as Hogwarts, but in most cases, it just doesn't work that well. You might think I'm "taking a parody anime too seriously," but there wasn't much to enjoy when the majority of the characters were the biggest jerks with no real depth.

I recently received a box of cream puffs, so if this animation was meant to be a commercial, it was a success.

Mashle's second season was a letdown, despite not really being that different from the first. But that's the issue. Mashle was intended to be a parody of fantasy themes, particularly those related to Harry Potter, but it stumbled into the same pitfall that most parodies do. Rather than deliberately mocking the clichés seen in fantasy literature, it exaggerates them to cover up the shoddy writing.
