Fun Homage to Tarantino

Tarantino's Basterds (2009)

*** 1/2 (out of 4)

This short film from the Soska sisters is actually one of the better homages I've seen out there. From what I've read, this was one of the shorts made for MTV's contest around the release of Quentin Tarantino's INGLORIOUS BASTERDS and it features all sorts of winks to previous Tarantino films. Having just been unimpressed with the Soska's DEAD HOOKER IN A TRUNK, I really wasn't sure what to expect here but it turned out to be a very entertaining film. At just under four-minutes there's certainly nothing ground-breaking here but if you're a fan of Tarantino then you're going to enjoy the various winks to his films. RESERVOIR DOGS, PULP FICTION and KILL BILL are all spoofed and I thought they were quite clever and especially the opening sequence, which mocks the Travolta-Thurman milk shake sequence from PF. The way the camera just keeps rolling to the next homage was quite good. There's no question that the Soska girls have a great eye and make their films look very professional, which is a lot more than most films like this can say.
