'Half Pants Full Pants,' adapted from Anand Suspi's autobiographical novel of the same name, transports us back to the good old days when life was much simpler without the internet and phones. The series has been adapted by Mani Prasad, written by Suspi, Prasad and Gaurav Mishra and directed by VK Prakash. The plot revolves around Anand aka Dabba, a young boy with big dreams, and his life adventures, which are depicted in eight interconnected episodes. The makers have successfully created a period in which 50 paisa coins were more valuable. The show moves at a leisurely pace, which is not a flaw because it is set in a time when things were slower. Despite this, the show has a lot of heartwarming moments.
Anand's family of four is simple and close-knit, consisting of his father Subbarao (Ashish Vidyarthi), an Indian Railways guard, his mother Padma (Sonali Kulkarni), a housewife, and his obnoxious older brother Sriram (Kartik Vijan). Anand's life, on the other hand, is not so easy because he is an expert at self-creating obstacles and overcoming them. His obsession with Bruce Lee is the most amusing of all. But, unfortunately, this is very short-lived and he finds something in each episode to keep his life going while also keeping the viewers interested in his fascination.
Ashwanth Ashokkumar is quite sweet and charming throughout. His eagerness to do something meaningful, combined with the warmth that characterises him, is endearing. His closest friend Raghu aka Giddi (Vansh P Keserkar) acts as a good support to him. With their sweetness, all of the young actors are endearing and elicit a lot of affection. Ashish Vidyarthi and Sonali Kulkarni have done a commendable job as Anand's parents.
The background music (by Ratheesh Vega) complements the story well. The title track, 'Half Pants,' is particularly well-written and soothing. Ganesh Rajavelu's cinematography successfully recreates a bygone era, allowing the audience to easily identify with the protagonist and his challenges.
Given the abundance of fast-paced content offered by various OTT platforms, 'Half Pants Full Pants' emerges as a calming and blissful trip down memory lane to your bachpan that is unquestionably worthwhile.
