"For Elsie" is a British live action short film from 2011 that runs for a bit over 20 minutes and scored some respectable awards recognition back then, for example by winning a Student Academy Award and maybe also not being too far away from getting in with the "big guys". This is the story of a piano teacher who gets a visit from a Russian gangster who wants the piano player to teach his daughter Beethoven's "For Elise". Only problem is that he needs to do so in 24 hours and that the daughter has no piano experience whatsoever. A lot of money is on the table, but so is the possibility that he will have his fingers broken by the mobster if he doesn't succeed. I believe that you don't need to be a piano player yourself to understand the impossibility of this endeavrór, but hey the gangster just wants his mother to be happy. Problem is that the daughter is also more busy crushing on the piano teacher than really practicing the piece. An okay premise overall that made for a good watch thanks to the nice performances too. The gangster could have been taken right out of Breaking Bad or I should maybe say Better Call SDaul these days. I enjoyed the watch here and of course I also enjoyed listening to the music. The ending was not fully fulfilling I'd say, but from the perspective that enjoying the beautiful music is far more important than looking at who delivers it, it also made sense. Maybe could have been 3-4 minutes shorter as a whole. I did enjoy the watch though and I believe you should check it out. It is without hesitation a thumbs-up from me, even if the rating here on imdb may be slightly too high.
