Phil and Claire are preparing for Thanksgiving dinner. While Claire is stuffing the turkey and putting in the oven, Phil decides to be creative and arrange the tables in a pleasing way. Claire does not really appreciate his efforts. Phil gets a phone call from his former neighbor, Kenneth, a young man who always felt inspired by Phil, whom he encouraged to do his best, always. Kenneth, as it turns out is a multimillionaire, a young man that has made it without having been to college, to boot.
Cam and Mitch are entertaining a couple, prior to going to Phil's for dinner. Cam's stories are a bit far fetched, something that embarrass Mitch. To make things worse, Cam tells about his famous pumpkin throw clear across a football field years ago. Mitch thinks Cam is making this up because of his non-athletic nature and girth.
At Jay's, Manny is preparing a centerpiece of such ugliness that his step-father feels appalled when he sees that 'masterpiece'. Gloria, on the other hand, wants Jay to encourage the boy for his creativity, but he feels Manny must be told what he has prepared to bring to the Dunphys is not exactly a decorative piece their hosts would appreciate.
Meanwhile, the Dunphy girls, Haley and Alex, go for a ride in Claire's car. Their conversation centers around Kenneth, the former neighbor that is now a rich man. They have checked him out and it is true he has a variety of businesses. Haley gets distracted while talking, hitting something that puts a dent on the driver's door. Feeling the worst, they try to stand in front of the car as the guests arrive.

The guest star is Josh Gad, who is the star of the current Broadway show "The Book of Mormon", himself a new talent that ought to be seen by a wider audience. His Kenneth is down to earth and a good example that college is not a guarantee for success. The cast does their best to create fun, especially at the end with Cam throwing a long shot that lands in Claire's dented car, thus saving the girls from punishment.
