The narcissist quarterback Doc Dugan is idolized by his many fans and by his assistant Jake Stewart. Out of the blue, his car explodes when started and the media report his death. When the CBI agents and Patrick go to his house, they find that Dugan is alive and Jake is the one that was murdered. Patrick decides to keep the information that Dugan is dead while hey investigate the case, and bring Dugan to the CBI office. While interviewing the suspects, Dugan learns what his pseudo friends think about him.
"The Redshirt" is a great episode of "The Mentalist". Doc Dugan has the unique chance to learn the true opinion and feelings of friends and acquaintances in life, and seems to change his behavior in the end. My vote is eight.
