Cold delivery and predictable ending
mikkiparker23 July 2022
I will start by saying this: Shin Sung Rok as Jayden Lee carried the whole drama from the beginning to the end. So Ji Sub did a decent job. However, his delivery felt too cold and emotionless most of the time. While his expressions showed a little of his character, the tone and delivery of his line were the same throughout the whole series and in the end, it started to be annoying. I couldn't connect at all with a character that was adamant about taking down a medical center and its chairman but didn't show much character.

The FL was annoying. For a prosecutor, she felt too emotional and overly dramatic with constantly spilling the ML's plans to the enemy and then was surprised when the enemy was a step ahead. The romance between her and So Ji Sub (the ML) was so little that it wouldn't make a difference if there was no romance at all. It also seemed absolutely unnecessary for the plot to continue their romance (or non-existent romance) after the five-year-jump.

Overall, the show felt overly dramatic, especially the entrances to the courtroom. The finale was kind of predictable. The ML's and FL's acting (So Ji Sub and Im Soo Hyang) was average compared to other actors like Shin Sung Rok, Lee Kyung Young, Kim Tae Gyum and Woo Hyun Joo.

The drama is decent. Not too great and mind-blowing but not boring either.

Disappointing

Warning: Spoilers
Chanced upon Doctor Lawyer and was initially super excited because i love medical and legal drama and So Ji Sub. However i was quite disappointed. In the first episode i was very tempted to check the year the drama was filmed because there is a very dated look and feel about the drama that carried through right to the end. The script was over dramatised, the surgery scenes does not have the grit and realism like Dr Romantic and the court scenes were also very simplistic. It is hard to believe with Chairman Gu's power he was unable to influence the judicial system. Also disappointed with So Ji Sub's performance. He looked tired and listless throughout the drama. Understand that he character is supposed to be a very calm and collected person but even then the lack of emotion makes it difficult to empathise with him. Jayden's character was jarring in the beginning but mellowed out quite nicely at the end. Finally I don't understand the need to have the prosecutor to have the same heart condition. Initially i thought that since illegal heart transplant is liable for capital punishment (as stated in drama), I thought the writer intend for Jayden to "return" the brother's heart to the sister after his death, but this was not the case. So it felt kind of unnecessary.

Too Much Plot, Too Many Plot Holes
OldGuyUS13 November 2023
I'll try to keep this spoiler free and simply make some points to help you decide if you want to watch it.

Summary The review with the title "Nope" is good and on point. :-) The plot was so complicated it was tedious, and the plot holes were gaping. I loved Im Soo-Hyang in her assertive role (compared to Gangnam Beauty), but she wasn't enough to make the series compelling. She needs better roles!

The Good
  • Im Soo-Hyang. I watched this because of here.

  • Acting was generally good

The Sub-Optimal
  • Overly complex plot. If you are into that type of things this could be good for you. But, for me, it was more like "give me a break!"
  • People on the "good" side constantly were underprepared for what was coming, despite being so smart. Like in a horror movie where everyone is screaming "Don't go into the room!!!" And then they do. LOL.

  • So Ji-Seob was just too flat in his acting. I know that was the character that he played, but... it drug things down. (Others have noted this as well),
  • The ending... Lame. Totally unnecessary ambiguity. KAS cut-off sentence crucial to the ending? Gads. I just don't get why they don't work the Plot to give us a bit more reward, and the characters a bit more reward, at the end.

Unbelievable
phebychow3 August 2022
Warning: Spoilers
Not blaming the storyline is illogical as many Korean dramas are beyond our imagination. Top hospital in-charge steals a heart and passes it to so-called VIP guest from the patient who just done well in the cardiothoracic surgery. All this happens in a night! Indeed, the top in-charge can grasp the heart with his power and networking instead of giving it to normal patient, and taking it back then transferring to VIP, its hard to believe it! Then, how come a so-call elite and smart doctor is being trapped once and once again! And both key actor's acting are terrible, I can't bear the doctor's affectionate and sad eyes as well as the prosecutor with an anger look and voice!

Awful plot

Warning: Spoilers
Just utterly stupid.

1. No doctor would operate without knowing who the patient is... 2. A doctor who get drugged would know he/she is being drugged.

3. The assistant who was assigned the post sould have never left the post without delegation.

4...5..6. And goes on and on. Tons of plot holes that doesn't make sense and is just utterly stupidity.

Fine Shin Sung Rok performance but is he stuck in very similar roles and performance already? Anyways very unbelievable plots. Uninteresting too. This thing about going all out on revenge, such storyline is played like a broken record.

Teacher Mechanic Accountant Pilot

You know they began to run out of ideas when they start to merge professions. It makes me wonder what might come next, but the entire law genre had plateaued, and coming up with new unexplored ideas got only more difficult. The entire hearts swapping operation at the beginning of the drama was flawed and didn't make any sense. Instead of giving us a cohesive storyline, we were left with this mishmash of abandoned subplots and forced plot turns that were hard to sell. You may expect a lot of highly implausible scenarios and you gonna nod your head and just accept it. Neither of the main leads brought any appealing character or performance making it difficult to empathize with their struggles or connect with their motivations.

Good Enough
PennyReviews15 April 2024
Korean Drama '' Doctor Lawyer '' is a medical and law drama.

The story has some interesting parts, but it focuses solely on the main criminal case and gets boring after a while. Sure, the characters were interesting, at first at least, but the drama didn't have enough cases to at least lift the load off and add some interesting notes to the main plot. Also, the medical drama didn't blend that well with the law drama, and it often felt like the story didn't know which direction to follow and where to focus.

At least, the romance was left on paper and there were some emotional scenes added to the mix. Also, there were some twists that were unexpected.

Finally, the performances were enjoyable by everyone in the cast.

So, overall, four out of ten.
