But you are definitely a murderer.

Warning: Spoilers
The LA Police Commissioner's wife is a drunk and now a killer, shown in a captured police car camera filming her arrest on Long Island last year together with the fatal crash opening this episode with Flynn witnessing. Brenda sees through the woman's lies immediately but getting sufficient-hard evidence to convict her for murder will take superb police work from Major Crimes.

Meaningful lines of dialogue throughout this episode include Flynn's exchange with the guilty party as Gail Meyers tells him good for you and your higher power. If your body can't tolerate alcohol, you should give it up, glad you figured it out. Andy comes back with, I didn't figure anything out, I just quick drinking. I'll be back in a minute. How sad off is the woman when she speaks like that to Flynn?

Brenda's responses pierce the air with reality when Gail says she is not an alcoholic and Brenda says okay, but you are definitely a murderer. Gail Meyers preaches that she will get help if necessary and Brenda retorts and who will help Gracie Ann Gates?

This is another classy episode with the cast of regulars and guests offering an excellent production inside of three-quarters of an hour. Pay particular attention how Brenda avoids red tape with lawyers by putting the Commissioner's daughter in a room with the victim's parents and afterward the one-on-one interview with the daughter. Showing the daughter's interview to the parents closes the case and sends the wife to booking.

How poignant was the scene with Andy Flynn showing the victim's parents where their daughter was killed? The viewer comes away with the thoughts of the lady never really understanding what she did that was so devastating to the victim and her parents. Putting her in cuffs and throwing the key away served well toward justice winning.

Best episode of the series

Warning: Spoilers
I am definitely a "Closer" fan, surprisingly, because I'm not one for network crime series. I find them too predictable. However, The Closer was one that I continued to watch over and over. This episode is the best IMO. It shows how an affluent "alcoholic in denial" is faced with the fact that her addiction turned deadly. Hope all law enforcement handles one of their own this way if they choose to get behind the wheel under the influence. One can only hope.

Tony Denison Shines in one of the Series' Best
libragm224 March 2024
Warning: Spoilers
Kyra S is indisputably the star of The Closer and her Brenda Leigh is at her best in this episode in dismantling the story of the Police Commissioner's wife...a story to cover up her driving drunk and killing Gracie who was riding a motorbike. But I have always loved The Closer for not only showcasing KS but for all the sterling supporting cast. This episode has Andy Flynn front and center as he was driving and had made eye contact with Gracie just prior to impact. He stays by her side as she dies. Most will cite Provenza and Flynn centric episodes for their humor, but this serious episode is no less memorable. Tony Denison's subdued yet palpable demeanor is heartbreaking as he tried to comfort Gracie, is powerful when conferring with his chief, reassuring when explaining the accident to Gracie's parents and determined when confronting Gail Meyers. Elizabeth Perkins is a standout guest star as well as the defiant "I don't have a drinking problem" drunk driver who killed a young woman.
