AHS - MURDER HOUSE: Great cast in a very excellent start.
edicionccq23 December 2019
A house in L.A. is haunted by some supernatural forces. A family moves to this house, but it will be the greatest mistake they could have made in their entire life.

I started watching this show by the time "AHS: Hotel" was being announced. A friend wanted me to watch that season with him, so I decided to start from scratch with season 1 in a marathon that FX was showing at midnight with every episode of the show so far.

I watched the 13 episodes of the first season in just two nights starting from midnight. I was caught from the first episode, and it never let me go. I love the way this show make the twists and how the cast is so brilliant and fit so well in their characters. It isn't a really scary show; in fact, It's like a drama full of supernatural stuff and dead. But you know, horror is about what scares you. And I would be scared if I find myself in that horrible house trapped for eternity.

Jessica Lange, Taissa Farmiga, Evan Peters and Sarah Paulson are the highlights of the season when it comes to the cast. I fall in love with these actors since the first second they appear on the show. They deliver their characters and a good story.

This is a good way to start the show. I recommend starting watching the show since this season, is an excellent start. This season gets 9 out of 10

Funny and Corny Conclusion
claudio_carvalho18 April 2017
Constance is taking care of her grandson and when Ben takes the baby from her, she threatens him. The he decides to commit suicide, but Vivien stops him and asks him to leave the house since they are in danger. However, Hayden with two other ghosts hang Ben from a chandelier. Later, Marcy convinces the couple Stacey and Miguel Ramos, and their teenage son Gabriel, to buy the house. However Ben and Vivien decides to haunt the family and they leave the house. Vivien finds that her stillborn baby was indeed alive and died in the house. She takes the baby from Nora and takes care of him and lives happily with Ben, Violet and Moira. Years later, Constance finds who her grandson is.

"Afterbirth" is the last episode of "American Horror Story", with the fate of the characters. It is funny to see Ben and Vivien frightening the Ramos family to protect them. But is also corny, with a happy ending for Ben, Vivien and Violet that forget all their problems. My vote is seven.

A normal finale to the best season of American horror story
MomentIMDB3 December 2019
Warning: Spoilers
Murder house is an excellent season, but the end of the season is very regular and in my opinion it is somewhat disappointing.

the episode is divided into three parts

part1 afterbirth Ben decides to take his son with Vivien's sister. Vivien and violet did not appear to Ben to leave with the baby. Constance took care of the baby while Ben took care of everything. Vivien and Violet convince Ben to stay with the baby. but hayden with the help of others hang him on the stairs.

part2 mission scare away the new owners Constance tells the police about how he found Ben Harmon. Constance stayed with the baby. A family moves to the house. violet tries to hurt tate by flirting with the new boy. The parents decide to have a baby. Ben, Vivien and Moira decide to scare them away so they don't come back. The scene is very spooky, it is very fantastic and fanciful, the heart of the season's terror.

part3 happiness in the murder house Tate apologizes to Ben for what he did, but he tells him he is a psychopath. Vivien finds the dead baby with Nora. Vivien asks Moira to be the godmother. A very tender moment was when lls harmon and moira put together the Christmas tree, how cute. Three years later, Constance after going to the hairdresser, finds the babysitter dead, and Michael, her grandson, who killed her. the antichrist began the killing

Excellent finale!
Red_Identity22 December 2011
So it's happened... the finale to American Horror Story's first season. By the time it was over, I was really sad. I am definitely going to miss it. My thoughts...

The finale was excellent. I can see why some people will have problems with it, but I honestly loved how it ended. It did so much things in one single episode, but then again, that is one of the trademarks of this show- it always does so much you can barely pause to think about everything that happened. I love how we had the 'boo' scares from the Harmon family to a new one. It seems that the house is divided- we have the sane, happy ghosts (The Harmons, Moira) then we have the vengeful ghosts full of hate.

What can I say about the ending of the episode? Perfection! Jessica Lange's final monologue is brilliant, and the closing scene of the episode was as well. In a way, we want to see this storyline as well, but I doubt we will. This could easily be seen as a series finale, but now we know how every season of this show will be constructed. I cannot wait for it, and all in all, an excellent finale to an excellent season!

murder house finale
jackDee-5656518 January 2021
I liked the ending but also understand why some think the happyish ending is a bit off but honestly most of the other season finales were really bad, also I wish some of cast were in more seasons, for me I liked the ending it was kinda ironic that it took death to get the Harmon family to get back on the same page

A Bloody Ending
ZegMaarJus1 May 2021
Warning: Spoilers
This episode begins with Ben and Viv (Nine Months Ago), Ben wants to buy Murder House but Viv refuses first. Ben found out that Tate is Constance her son. Ben tried to shoot a bullet trough his head, but Viv stopped him. Ben got hang up on a rope by Hayden, he died afterwards. New residents bought Murder House. Constance took Viv's/Tate's baby. Rubber Man attacks Stacy. Rubber Man is Ben, he shot Viv trough her head. The Ramos family leaves Murder House. Viv found her son back at the basement. Moira is his godmother now. We see Constance Three Years Later, she still takes care of Michael (Viv's/Tate's son). Flora has been killed by Michael. Nice Final of American Horror Story Season 1(Murder House), every Harmon has died on this series. They go on as a dead family in Murder House as ghosts.

S1.E12 - Not the Best Finale [7/10]
panagiotis199311 December 2023
Warning: Spoilers
(S1. E12) My Live Reaction / Review for American Horror Story Season 1 Episode 12 ''Afterbirth''. The previous episode was good and I gave it a rating of 9/10. Let's see if this one is better or worse. Now Ben is the only person alive in the house. I knew that Ben would die in this episode. Where is the baby though? Ben and Vivien scared the new house owners to save their lives, that's good. Is the baby a ghost too? That's nuts. Constance's grandson is a killer too? Damn. For a final episode I have to admit that it was pretty disappointing. It felt more like filler, which is annoying. This season was pretty good though. Overall this episode was ok, my rating is 7/10.

I expected more
DuskShadow25 October 2018
Warning: Spoilers
Though I did like this season at times, its only the second of this franchises seasons I have seen. That being said, even though it chronologically came out first, it made many logical mistakes. The whole franchises seems to almost build up then let people down with either over predictability or a sheer lack of closure. This could have rocked peoples socks off so much more, yet ironically I kept watching, to see it through till the end. IN a way it ends somewhat merrily, but the ever looming "anti christ" figure survives in the young child. Yet another little children of the corn like blonde abomination raised by the unscrupulous Constance. And that the hot redhead that died young aged while being a ghost, and nothing came from the frankenstein like son of the original owners of the house... ugh. 5/10

Wtf?
davisond-7038114 November 2018
It took me 7 years to sit down and start watching this show, I've just finished season 1 and plan to binge the rest and I was really enjoying it. The finale feels different, a new vibe which I dont like and it feels very messy. Out of all the episodes of this season, the finale is the worst.

Bad ending to a good season
ameliek8126 July 2020
Warning: Spoilers
This is my 2nd viewing of Season 1, I've gone back to refresh my memory. I remember not liking this episode, thought that maybe after having watched every season of the show, I'd think differently. I don't. It feels like they didn't really know how to end it, it doesn't flow with the rest of the season or with what happened in other episodes. The ghosts are always interacting with each other, so why didn't any ghost intervene when Hayden killed Ben? They get together to scare away the next family that moves in, why didn't they do that for the Harmons?

The concept of scaring away the family feels like the writers didn't know what to do with the dead family, were up watching Beetlejuice one night and thought "oh! let's do that!" but it doesn't work here at all because it doesn't match the tone of the show.

Equally original and terribly scenarized
lampadaire200029 April 2015
Warning: Spoilers
i don't understand people's reaction to that TV Show : no one seems to notice that in each episode of the first season , there is at least 5 or 6 scripts errors (except that user who reviewed each episode and seems to hate the show at first sight). The show is original and the idea of mixing every horror movie in one single season could be good, but jeez ,even if you demand the audience to respect fantasy and horror movies rules, please Mr Showmen RESPECT those rules. As watching the show i was always thinking "ok, if this one knows this, then he CAN't react like this) I found out why it's so annoying to watch: it's because characters are very poorly drew. If the script have them to act this way , they will, despite who they are ,and despite what they know about this House ,( who would have been abandoned or destroy for decades in real life) , it's not characters who will define the scripts and what happens, it's quite the contrary: that's why you always think: this can't happen. Hiring a house who is on a Tour of Horror without knowing it? Ben never heard about Betty Short? Violet read who is Tate on the web , and doesn't mind dating someone dead? well, there's million of little "oh-look-that-way-and-don't-consider-this" tricks offered by the scenarists all during the show that make us wonder if this is ironic or if they do want us scared or laughing. Too bad because sometime ,some scenes and ideas are really beautiful).

(PS: i REALLY don't get the WHY of the Jessica Lange characters ,what she represents and the scene with a lazy & ery naive LAPD are hilarious)

The Last Straw
artpf2 January 2014
Episode flashes back to 9 months previously. Then back. Nothing makes sense in this show. I sat through every episode. It's horrible.

This episode brings in new ghosts to the house and a new tenant.

There's nothing believable in this show. You can't suspend disbelief at all.

And the writing really really sucks.

This episode is one big mess. It doesn't really tie up any loose ends and the ending is a burlesque. In truth the ending just keeps going, and going, and going.

It's actually sort of insulting.

Worst Episode of Any Show I've Ever Seen, And I've Been Watching TV My Whole Life
asrexproductions25 March 2017
There are movies and TV shows that are dissatisfying, not exciting / scary / happy / whatever enough, or poorly acted / directed /shot / whatever, as I said. Sometimes there are plot points that make no sense; sometimes there are characters who behave in unrealistic or unbelievable ways. I have never EVER seen an episode of a professionally produced television show however, that I felt didn't seem to understand how to TELL A STORY at all until this "Afterbirth" episode of American Horror story. I'm absolutely dumbfounded.

Those who have been watching "American Horror Story" Season 1 know the basic setup, and it gets reviewed at the beginning of this episode if you don't: Philandering therapist Ben Harmon (Dylan McDermott) moves into an old mansion with his wife (Connie Britton) and daughter (Taissa Farmiga) in an attempt to repair his marriage after his wife Vivien (Britton) finds out about his infidelity. Unfortunately for all of them, the house is haunted, and over the course of this season, the ghosts have tortured and toyed with all of them, in ways that I won't spoil for the uninitiated, but have now left us with Dr. Harmon in great danger and a new baby, with his wife and daughter trying to help him. Will he escape? In any other normal series, that would be the whole premise of this episode. Here however? HO-Boy...! Again, without spoiling it as best I can, suffice it to say that what WOULD be the major conflict of the story gets wrapped up in the first act, in a way that I think anyone with a literary or television or BASIC STORYTELLING background would agree makes the whole first season seem pointless. From there it becomes a gimmicky scare-fest that felt to me like an attempt to turn it back into a horror story, and not just ghost science fiction (complete with an explanation of the rules of how the world works, in the aforementioned first act, preventing the audience from figuring it out on its own and taking satisfaction from that). To me it just meanders aimlessly from the second act onward, ending in what struck me as a too-little, too-late attempt to be creepy that couldn't possibly work on me because I'd already stopped caring. I love the cast, including perennial favorite Charles S. Dutton in a minor role, but they're given a story that really feels to me like something a sixth grader might have come up with. I've never seen anything like this in my life, and cannot understand why this show is so well-regarded today. I can only assume that it gets better in subsequent seasons but frankly, I loathed this season finale so much that I'm never watching this ever again. UNBELIEVABLY bad, in my opinion. Stay away from this first season at all costs!

.......
Phonematology4 November 2019
The failing of this finale is so phenomenal that no merit from this montage of mediocrities could be mined for allowing one to more eloquently declare: "This is really really bad TV." Nor does the episode deserve an analysis of its laughable superficiality. I can only presume that the director and writer either reached an apathy-inducing point of no return, or they have no experience with how humans interact with each other in ways not imitating the falsity of lazy TV/cinema. Every moment between Ben's trouble with the chandelier and Constance's entering a salon is meaningless to the show as a whole and filled with cringe-inducing scripting and acting.

A second star added for setting a new standard of awful.

Messy boring finale
lizpconsult19 November 2023
Saw some other seasons of this show and love it. I decided to catch up on some I missed... Murder House was a great season but this finale was so? Odd?

The end of the last episode felt like the story was just short of ending and was wondering how they would fill an entire finale. It ended up coming off as a haphazard montage of a bunch of unfinished ideas.

Throwaway opening scene and then felt like it could be over 15 minutes in. It kept going... and going... for some weird resolutions that felt unneeded. Completely different mood than the rest of the series I even laughed a few times at bits that I don't think were meant to be funny. Just weirdly written.

So flat, boring and unnecessary...
