Juvie chick is multilingual?
bellenoiseuse23 April 2012
I just started watching Revenge on Hulu, and am very much into it. But have to agree with Danny's review on some of the more ludicrous and unbelievable plot contrivances. That being said, let's suspend our disbelief, and just go along with it for the sake of entertainment. Even then, however, I think we can agree that character development is important for the coherence and plausibility of the plot. Someone please explain to me, then, why the real Emily, i.e. the stripper who just killed Frank, has to say "Za shchastiye!" (To Happiness!) in Russian every time she raises a glass to toast someone? Sure, the actress who plays her, Margarita Levieva, is Russian, but how the hell would her character, who is supposed to be some run-of-the-mill, all-American, trailer-trash-juvie-stripper chick with a 100% Anglo name like "Emily Thorne" know how to say "cheers!" to anyone in a foreign language? Did she learn that in juvie? Come on. What is this? Some kind of cute gimmick the actress thought up herself? "Oooohhh, I know! Let me say 'cheers' in Russian every time I drink, that would be awesome! Cause, you know, I'm, like, Russian and all." Seriously? That's great and all, but for the purposes of this show? Not. Making. Any. Sense, people. Consistency, please.

Finale-like, entertaining evil Tyler, inspiring Declan, interesting duality, promising new character, confusing flashbacks
igoatabase3 November 2011
Warning: Spoilers
What an overwhelming episode ! So many pivotal things happened that it could have been a finale. Getting Frank so quickly out of the picture was gutsy so it seems Victoria will carry his torch and investigate Emily. I already knew Tyler was gay considering how he Martha Stewart behaves around Daniel but I didn't see his negotiation with Nolan coming. It's surprising what he's capable to do in order to help Emily but I'm sure he won't leak the videos. As for Tyler's intention to get back in the game at all cost it's interesting because in some way he's not so different than Emily.

In the romance department Declan stepped up his game and I can't see how a girl like Charlotte could resist someone who can call her mum Miss G. He's definitely funny and even inspiring because he defended his brother in front of everyone and people who tell what they really think are rare. As for the compass Emily gave Jack it made her love story with Daniel even more fragile because it seems she's really falling for him. I mean the last time I heard characters expressing their feelings out loud was while watching Dawson's Creek so it definitely proves that there's something fishy. In fact the voice-over was quite enlightening because Amanda should be her inside and Emily her outside but she apparently never expected her actions would blur the lines between them so much. Will she find the light in the darkness she created ? Is she becoming as evil as the people who framed her father ? The question deserves to be asked because the moving and Shakespearean balcony scene revealed that Victoria still has a heart. It's broken but she definitely loves Daniel.

Now the identity switch between Amanda Clarke and Emily Thorne was revealed I really wonder how they'll deal with Frank's corpse and of course Victoria's growing suspicions. Maybe the first will offer her a free lap dance. At least learning more about her should be interesting so let's hope she'll become a recurrent character. Seriously my only complain about this episode would be the confusing flashbacks. The transition between the present and the past was too sharp and the fact that young Victoria is also played by Madeleine Stowe doesn't help. So I wish they had been as polished and creative as Amanda's ones. Last but not least anyone has noticed how Reven8e's intertitle is similar to Lost's one ? They both feature a zooming logo and a mysterious tune.

Really? Seriously?
dannytomasso20 January 2012
Warning: Spoilers
I started watching this "revenge" thing with interest. It was promising for a while although having a very very, flawed concept - a BILLIONAIRE looking for revenge and implicating herself in the process, risking everything, including jail, as opposed to exercising that revenge through pawns that she controls from a beach in Rio or Venezuela.....really?! Is this written for children, or by people that have no clue what a BILLION dollars can do. She could've hired her own "team" of "Amanda's Angels" to exercise revenge on her behalf, anonymously and without any exposure. Anyway, I'm still watching this series, but this episode really angered me off with its nonsense. What nonsense? OK, Amanda exchanges her identity with another juvenile "customer"...seriously?!.. but let's accept that as a possible premise, but then....she keeps her around in the USA???? As opposed to sending her somewhere else in a non-extradition friendly country, in a private jet, with her own people waiting at the other end for her, putting her in a house with a generous yearly allowance coming from an untraceable account?? And also mentioning to her that they can still be best friends as long as she doesn't step foot in USA, because if she does she might have an immediate "accident"?! This is what a BILLIONAIRE in Amanda's position with such a loose end would do, or maybe worse (friend or no friend).... Instead, she takes "her evil twin" (that just committed murder, and drove in the car of the victim almost to her house, with her jacket stained with the victim's blood and having the victim's wallet in it....come on people, how much more stupid can this get) to Nolan's house? ?? What?? Not put her on a private jet to Caracas even now??? And then.....Jack meets her..What?? And then Amanda buys her a plane ticket to Paris, but she doesn't make sure she gets on the plane? Please....writers....please.. get connected with reality guys, get out of la-la-land!
