The "Artist" Next Door
Hitchcoc4 March 2018
The focus here is more related to a family, the Dunwiches, where there is a crazy mother and an explosive son. There is a question of possible poisoning that Martin must deal with. We also have the new receptionist being too trustworthy as it relates to her grandpa. Meanwhile, the whole tension with the new baby is made obvious. Louisa makes a decision to give up her job and go with Martin to London. As viewers, we know that there are some hard times ahead. Bert Large begins to suffer from vertigo. Once again, the actions of the populace of Portwenn turn out to be generally out to lunch.

The Dunwich Horror!
planktonrules28 April 2015
Miriam Margolyes stars as Shirley Dunwich. She is a completely wacky lady whose son Michael just seems imbalanced.

When the show begins, Doc Martin's unpleasant Aunt Ruth is shocked to see Michael steeling her hubcaps and running away to the property next door. Ruth follows and soon meets his mother, Shirley--who seems perfectly sane one moment and totally insane the next! It's obvious that SOMETHING is wrong with her and her son but these folks refuse to see the Doctor. Eventually, Shirley does come in--after passing out. Eventually it all appears to be a case of poisoning and it appears Michael is poisoning his mom. What's next? See the show.

This is a very goofy episode--much more than usual. Margolyes is a real goofball in this one and the son seems much like one of the Darryls from "Newhart". A strangely enjoyable episode.
