The Warden is voiced by Bob Gunton and is drawn to look like him, as well. This is an homage to his character in The Shawshank Redemption (1994).
The "White work song" performed by Peter, Joe and Quagmire is 'The Babbit and the Bromide' by George and Ira Gershwin. It was originally performed in the film 'Zieglfeld Follies' by Fred Astaire and Gene Kelly and is notable for being the first time the two great song-and-dance men ever shared the screen together.
The cutaway of the rebelling Colonel Goatbanger viewing the encamped British troops shows a correct flag for the British (Kingdom of Great Britain)- the current UK flag but without the thinner red stripes of St. Patrick's cross for Ireland. Ireland wouldn't be added to the kingdom until 1801- after the American Revolution.
The title for this episode and story is based on the movie "Cool Hand Luke."
