Pucca Entertainer

well well.! this film is an out and out entertainer.! this part is far more better than the previous part(muni). Raghava Lawrencce has proved his worth in this film.. i am really impressed with Sarath Kumar, who acted as a trans-gender in this film..

other that this, i liked this film because it delivers a strong message in support of trans-genders..people who really make fun of them should see this film..this is a great move by Lawrencce.. music is average to say but Lawrencce showed his dance skills up-to the mark especially in the climax song..its great.!

the only defect is that the heroine has no crucial role i this film..thats a little embarrassing factor.."Devadarshini", "Srimaan", "Kovai Saralaa" have done very well in their roles.!

Lawrencce handled the "horror essence" in this film very well..could have been better..but its much appreciated..

finally, if you didn't watch this film, then you are really missing something..including Horror.!!

so i rate this film - 8/10 mainly because of the message..

Will surly scare you.. Warning: Spoilers
After his impressive directorial debut with "Muni" Raghava Lawrence concentrated on acting dishing out movies which outdid each other in their mediocrity. Having pushed to the wall in search of redemption he has once again tried his hands on direction. He has stuck to his strengths which he has showcased & successfully at that in "Muni" that is mixing horror with comedy. In this sequel he has also touched upon a good social message too .

That the movie is shot with a shoe-string budget is evident from the cast & crew as well the tackiness of the CG effects in particular & technical details of the movie in general. Raghava Lawrence has once again managed to present a movie with a crisp screenplay with double the dose of horror compared the former with a lot of scenes making one jump in his seat with fright. Comedy has also worked out well with Kovai Sarala & Divyadarshini ruling the roost in this department.

On the down side , as usual a hero introduction action sequence followed by a "mass" song makes one squirm in the seat right at the outset. First half an hour or so is mindless with no direction whatsoever .Movie meanders until the appearance of the ghost. Certain aspects like Lawrence climbing onto each & every one of his female relatives hips in fright & certain dialogs here and there are quiet repulsive.

SharathKumar deserves kudos for accepting the role of a trans-gender in the first place & deserves praise for doing so convincingly without caricaturing it. Raghava Lawrence reprise his role of a phasmophobic youngster who is courageous & macho otherwise ! Laxmi Rai has nothing much to do while Kovai Sarala & Divyadarshini bring down the roof with laughter with their comic antics & hilarious dialog & lingo.

Thaman's music with respect to songs have nothing much to rave about but his background score is adequate in elevating the thrilling effects & the mood of the movie.

Vetri's cinematography is adequate but the movie is nowhere close to "Muni" as far as technical finesse is concerned.

Raghava Lawrence might have hit the bulls eye with his second directorial venture too with the movie keeping the viewer engaged with the occurrence on screen . On the whole, "Kanchana" is watchable if one is tolerant enough to excuse certain shortcomings & crassness here & there and able to appreciate a valuable message driven home.

Bottomline: Will surly scare you...

Interesting topic, generic plot, weak casts but undeniably spooky.
sisubalan22 October 2022
Unlike chandramuki, the tone of the movie is darker and undeniably scarier. Introducing india's infamous '3rd gender' community that im wasnt familiar of. Storyline was kinda meh, songs were not catchy and definitely on the level of chandramuki. Not familiar of the main lead actor, but his acting was a bit overdramatic, i dont find him to be funny. Maybe its just me. As for the actor playing the ghost wasnt that great either, not very compelling. An odd choice of cast. Few creative yet spooky scene, one of my favorite was when the ghost lick off the blood from a plate. Highly recommended, although not recommended for children due to violence.

The movie was excellent. Songs and BGM were also good in the movie. The movie delivered a good message in the movie. Sarathkumar done a good job in the movie. Kovai Sarala and Devadharshini's comedy and humor sense are the main highlights in the movie. Amazing Movie.

Kanchana, Comedy/Horror Mashup!
TharsheyN26 October 2022
Kanchana: Muni 2 is a comedy-horror mashup that works pretty well. It also stands for transgender rights as you find out later on. The movie seems to be pretty straight forward at first but the director and script writers are able to shake that with some plot twists and reveals later on in the movie. The movie pacing overall is quite good, the storyline is interesting and it keeps you entertained for the whole runtime with part scared and part humour.

The cast is great as well, Raghava's mum and sister-in-law are well portrayed. While Raghava himself is a solid lead for the film. Priya played by Lakshmi Rai stands out for her amazing looks, though she is only given a few scenes so not much can be said about her acting. Though I saw nothing wrong with the few scenes she was in.

The rest of the cast was great including the actors playing Kanchana and Geeta.

The BGM and Soundtrack were pretty catchy and enjoyable. The VFX was bot the greatest but it did suit the movies style and I enjoyed it.

All in all a well deserved 7/10 from me. Kanchana is a funny Tamil horror film for those interested in either comedy, horror or a splash of both.

Great Horror Comedy
IPyaarCinema9 July 2022
Warning: Spoilers
Kanchana manages to survive mostly on scaring the audiences with situations that keep you on the edge of the seat. At the heart of story, there is an unexpected support to eunuchs, who most often as kids do not know how to deal with themselves. The guest appearance of Sharath Kumar as a eunuch gives us some glimpse of a storyline towards the end of the film, which otherwise is built on a wafer thin premise.
