A solid episode

Warning: Spoilers
I think this is another good Bones episode.

The topic of competitive eating was a bit gross, especially when we had to actually watch those people shove hot dogs in their face.

We also get introduced to Fin! I think he is a pretty good intern. It was a bit corny when Fin told Hodgins that "they both speak the same language, science" but I get what the writers were trying to say. Also, why in the world was Angela looking at that article on her massive monitor when she knows that Finn was working at the time? She could have avoided a really awkward encounter if she just read the news article on her iPad like any normal person would do.

I was also a little bothered that Bones practically "accidentally" told Booth the sex of their child. I have seen this show a few times but it still bothers me that Bones would not have realized that this matters to Booth. I just feel like the one constant throughout the show is that Booth loves his child, Parker, so you would think that Bones would draw the logical conclusion that Booth will love this child. Therefore, Bones should assume that Booth will want to be involved in all of this stuff. But, shame on Booth too for not making it apparent to Bones that he wants to be involved in all the different steps.

Best part: finding out that Bones and Booth are having a girl

Worst part: watching the eating competition and listening to that guy burp in the interrogation room.

I Like Saying His Name

Finn Abernathy rolls off the tongue. He is a refreshing new character. I know the southern accent stuff is pretty strained but he is a sweet, charming, smart guy with a past. He has a record and that puts his hopes in danger. But his acuity is marvelous--rattling off physiology with a vengeance. The plot involves a woman who enters eating contests professionally. She has died when impaled on a large broken terrarium. Booth and Brennan get a "taste" of eating competitively. A separate plot issue involves Brennan having an ultrasound to determine the sex of her baby, but not letting Booth be a part of it.

Fin

Fin brought a new change to Bones. I love it and would like to see a lot more of Fin in future episodes. He made it seem like anthropology can be realistic dream for others. A person with that type of a back round to become well educated is only a dream for most he makes it seem tangible. I have really enjoyed the series. I have been waiting years to see Bones and Booth together; however, they seemed more in love with each other when they weren't together. Almost like they are trying to hard to be lovers, just let it flow. And Emily congratulations on your new little girl even through the frustrations of sleepless nights you will find joy and pleasure in raising children. God bless you and the cast. Thnk you for bringing excitement to my week. paulajack

Worst Squintern...

...ever. I guess if you've never spoken to or heard someone from the South, the dialog and dialect reminiscent of early 20th century Hollywood southern characters might pass for something other than a cartoon. A genuine trailer trash representative would have sounded, if not smart, at least southern. Please lose this character and bring back some of the other squinterns or at least explore new ones that have some remote authenticity. I realize this is a fairly silly show, but come on.

Apparently, a review requires a minimum of 10 lines of text and my rant didn't make the cutoff. I've not actually made it to the end of this episode yet, but the moronic dialog and delivery were so bad I had to start writing to divert my attention so that I might make it to the end. Maybe he'll get offed or get diverted to prison by the end of the episode. That would be lovely. And maybe this makes my review long enough to pass muster.

Time has passed and I've now finished the episode. It looks like this character is poised to come back and, after seeing him develop over the course of the episode, I... can't pretend to have changed my mind. Awful is all I can say. But hey. Maybe I can save the occasional hour of my life when I turn on Bones, only to discover that this character is featured.
