In this episode of Prison Break, titled "The Liar," Michael's escape plans hit multiple snags, Sheba and Lincoln are taken prisoner and C-Note has doubts about the man he's helping.
Michael uses the same boy he employed to send his message about the Sheik of Light to Lincoln and C-Note to deliver another note. The boy is one of several who hang outside the prison, and Michael bribes him with bubble gum to do his bidding. (The boy calls Michael "Bubble Gum Man.") The message is a passage from the Suras, and Sheba notices that Michael's writing -- calligraphy -- is spaced and shaped like the spokes on a wheel. Yes, Michael is up to his old tricks, using (new) tattoos on his arm and notes to break out of prison.

Earlier this morning, I learned my grandpa passed away. I was lucky enough to be in town visiting family and to be able to spend some time with him last night before he passed. My grandpa and I were incredibly close — he was my best friend for the longest time. I spent a lot of my childhood with him and they were some of the most fun and memorable times of my life. I’m completely overwhelmed with grief and every time I think about the times we spent together, I just break down and cry.
My grandpa’s name is Leo Paur, and he’s one of the greatest men I’ve ever known. He’s one of my heroes. He served in the Army in World War II and spent a lot of his time in the Pacific. He even served as part of the security detail for...

This year marks the inaugural Tiff x Instagram Shorts Festival, a competition open to filmmakers across the globe to have their work seen by the likes of Ava Duvernay, James Franco, and the entire Toronto International Film Festival audience. Tiff will be screening three shorts a day on their Instagram account from now until August 18th, when they will announce the winning film and the audience favorite.
“When Instagram announced they were extending their videos to 60 seconds it seemed like a great time to collaborate with them to seek out new visual storytellers from around the globe,” Tiff Digital Director Jody Sugrue told IndieWire. “We were looking for filmmakers who leveraged the platform and time constraint in different and compelling ways.”

A person can't go through life and not learn a lesson about stealing something that isn't theirs. This is a lesson I learned early on and something I'll never forget. It has guided me in my life and has helped me in my integrity.
I was about five years old and I used to spend a lot of time with my grandpa while my parents were at work. My grandpa kind of spoiled me by buying me toys and candy and, of course, would take me to the movies all the time.
One afternoon my grandpa had to go to the store to pick some food up for dinner. After we were done filling the cart with food we were standing in the checkout line to pay for the food. As I was standing there, I stared in awe at that damn candy rack. Those candy racks in the register...

It’s hard to imagine a film that would stand up to Satyajit Ray’s 1969 film Goopy Gyne Bagha Byne (based on a story by Ray’s grandfather, Upendrakishore Ray), but book illustrator and animator Shilpa Ranade manages to do just that with her animated version, Goopi Gawaiiya Bagha Bajaiiya (The World of Goopy and Bagha), screening at the Toronto International Film Festival. The bones of the story remain the same: singer Goopi and drummer Bagha meet in the forest after being banished from their respective kingdoms – both love the music they make, but their lack of talent and its resulting cacophony does not endear them to anyone. However, the king of the ghosts hears them, and, oddly enthralled by them, decides to grant them a number of boons: delicious food that appears when they clap for it; a pair of wonderful shoes that will transport them wherever they wish...

2012 turned out to be a year when a number of smaller or independent films made their way onto many Top Ten lists. But, as always, there are films that, for a number of reasons, risk being forgotten or overlooked, especially in a year where there are so many great films to choose from. Here are 13 films – 10 already released, 3 from the festival circuit – that you should have seen in 2012. It’s still not too late!
Jalpari: The Desert Mermaid (dir. Nila Madhab Panda)
It’s a massive shame that Nila Madhab Panda’s film didn’t get as much attention as his I Am Kalam, and also a shame that the film was released to DVD without English subtitles. Because Jalpari: The Desert Mermaid, like I Am Kalam, weaves an issue into a story about, and for, children and families, and the message it carries (about the value of women and...
